  1. Thats not a rat rod, I think it is a unfinished project where the goal is to make a scary looking car for some slightly scary movie about a haunted house with a dead family in it. Imagine it with runningboards connection the front and rear wings and something infront of the radiator connecting the two fronwings together. Then having it in black with the radiator and headlight making some sort of scary face. With some skulls and dark lighting and smoke and spooky backgroundmusic (no, not Dusty Springfields Spooky) and it would scare grey hear on kids and old people in to the grave.
  2. And here I sit with a started project on Revells 32 5 window and I'm putting a Nissan/Datsun 6 cylinder in it
  3. Does anyone have an idea what flocking could match the brown color in the boot/trunk of this car: I'm looking at MCGs flocking but the brown they got looks to dark in the picture on the website: https://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=80&idcategory=16 And the rusty brown is too redish: https://www.modelcargarage.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=68&idcategory=16 Any other manufacturers out there that got a matching flocking?
  4. Yeah, one should be so lucky But I guess that is what you get when you have yearly modelchanges and quikly changing fashions. Everything loses its value quickly. I remeber seeing something about WWII planes, that back in the 50s they could buy decent fighters and bombers for the same price as a decent used car.
  5. Not a Cobra, but it is a Spider: I guess that with the Spiders, you can kill them with your shoe and with a Cobra you have to get more serious weapons
  6. Wow........looks like this thread has wondered off on its own..... Has the kit gotten out to the stores yet? Anyone got a good look at it? It is a gem or is it a turd? No? That what I thought Heres a suggestion for a new way out in to off-topic land then: What happens if you put polarbears and penguins in the same pen?
  7. Back in 2007 I did a test on my 74 Mercedes 240D running it on a mix of parafin and used cooking oil. Worked just fine and if I had managed to get a proper filteringsystem going with tanks and pumps to keep it in I would have gotten very cheap fuel out of it. I knew a guy that was running a resturant at the time and got the used cooking oil from them for free. I had to buy the parafin but even when I was buying it in small quantities I got a fuel price that was about half the price of normal diesel and if I had bought in bigger quantities and with the cost of building and running a proper filtrationsystem I would have ended up with a fuelprice of about one third of normal diesel. Now, this is in Norway, and here the fuel is A LOT more expensive than in the US. Back in 2007, one liter of Diesel was about 10-11 Kroner or about 2 dollars. I have heard that you guys in the states have gotten cheaper fuel over the last year or so as the global oil prices have gone down but we have not. We are paying about 14-15 kroner for one liter of petrol and about 1 krone less per liter for diesel. At the moment there is about 8 Norwegian Krone for 1 US Dollar so that is about 1,8USD for one litre. That works out at price of 6,8 USD for one US gallon. As others have said, the biggest reason for not having other types of fuel is politics an economics. Most of the price of fuel here in Norway is taxes and Norway is also a big oil nation so for the Norwegian state (including the people) it is the best thing to use fossil fuels as long as possible. At the moment there is a very big green wave and we are seeing a huge amount of electric cars on the roads as these have no taxes on them when buying them and they don't have to pay for road tolls or parking and can drive in the buslanes and you get cheaper bank loans and cheaper insurance on them (and they are building more and more chargingstations for them) but that is also mostly politicaly and economicaly motivated as it gives the nation a reputation for being green at the same time as we are getting ever richer on the fossil fuels. I have read somewhere that it should be possible to make a usable gas from the excrements from animals. Research in this field is greatly underfinancied it seems.
  8. That really looks bad, I don't want that to happen to me. But I do think that it has a lot to do with hygiene. One should always be carefull about washing hands (with fingers) and lower arms, especially before eating or handling food. And it all depends on what type of garbage it is, if it is toxic waste from a nuclear plant or discarded paper from a cardboardbox factory. I used to do a lot of dumpsterdiving when I was a kid. Found all sorts of stuff but was always carefull not to touch anything that looked to be covered in anything sticky. Most of the dumpsters I went trough contained mostly bits of wood and lots of household items that are normally not used in a way that brings with it any germs. I did find a big box of toy cars ones when I was about 8 years old and I also found several boxes with old books in them that had clearly been sitting in the shelf in somebodys home for many years. I'm guessing the books belonged to a person that either had died or moved to a home and the family had just tossed it all in the dumpster. The oldest book I found was printed in about 1900 and the latest ones where from the early 50s.
  9. Yes, there was supposed to be a live show now in late march (I think) here in Norway that was cancelled/postponed and is now on again in June I think as the Clarkson, Hammond and May Live show. Maybe they will continue using that name for a new tvshow on some other channel? "The Clarkson, Hammond and May show".....doesn't sound to bad that.
  10. Thank you Yeah, I do also think it as very strange that two teenager would have a car like that in 58 but I guess that in 1975/76 when this movie came out they where hoping that the teenagers that watched it would not care about the details like that and also seeing that this movie is a low budget movie then that is probably the reason for it clearly being filmed in winter/spring and claiming it to be summer with a very smokey engine that they claim can do 8,7second quarter mile. I don't know what a 57 Bel Air cost was compared to the avarage wage was back then in the US but I'm guessing that a two door hardtop with a v8 as in the movie would be quite a lot more than what poor teenagers should be able to afford. Yes they are quite ugly, I agree. Looks very much like a rush job
  11. Yes, I did use the computercable as a mold and made the tuck'nroll material with the glue. That way I will always keep the cable and be able to make more tuck'n roll material for any future porjects aswell Actually that makes the material look the opposite of what it should look like as it gets thin ridges and U shapes channels in between but I'm hoping that it does not show up to much inside the car anyway. I have layed down some primer on the parts now and it is more visible what it will look like. Sadly there is some airbubbles in the backseat so I may have to redo that one. I have also found this: http://www.streetlegaltv.com/news/lost-movie-car-the-return-to-macon-county-57-chevy-is-alive-well/ And this thread on this forum with one more project: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/?showtopic=74225 I guess the reason for a 70s style mod on the movie car is there because the movie was made in the mid 70s. I guess they where not as accurate when it comes to such details back then. But was it common to paint the complete floor in white or just some parts?
  12. I have taken some more screenshots from the movie, trying to see the color of the floor and chassis. The rear axle, springs, fueltank and sparewheelwell is clearly white but not sure if the rest is white or not. And this one, a pressure gauge in the enginebay: Summer.....yeah....
  13. Yes, the setup looks very strange. I do have the Paxton parts from ATM 57 Ford so I will try and use them . The Tuck'n Roll method is quite easy to do but one have to be carefull so that it does not distort when applying it to the model. What I did was smear the glue over the cable in an as even layer as I could and left it to dry over night. It will be interesting to see how it reacts to paint, hopefully it does not go bad when I apply some satin white over it to make it look like the white vinyl on the moviecar. Here is a couple of closeups of the backseat and doorcards: The "new tool" AMT Pro Shop kit from the 90s or to be exact, I started out now with the anniversery edition from a few years ago in a tin box.
  14. Looks fantastic!! You did a great job on it
  15. Yes, the cable is flat, wide and grey and the where used to plug in hard drives and such aswell (I belive there where different widths of them). Maybe acrylic color would work on, will have to try that sometime. Not 100% on how to do the flames yeat, looks like they have been handpainted on the car so it is possible that I wil try an make a template from a screenshot and see if I can handpaint it myself but not sure yet. Take a look at these two interior shots: Notice how the sunvisors are there and there is also a small tinted field of the top of the windscreen that is not there on the other shot. I think they are either using two different cars or have changed or replaced the windscreen at some point in the film.
  16. Maybe you have seen this: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=95312 Chromecops oval baja bug project. Hopefully I will get mine done in time so that we can put ours togheter at the Norwegian Challenge show in September.
  17. Very interesting!! I'm also currently working on a 63 Baja bug based on the Polar Lights snapkit (I have not made a thread about it on this foum yet) and you can find some pictures of it here: http://s6.photobucket.com/user/Atmobil/library/Bajabug?sort=3&page=1 So far I have only been working on the floorpan with front and rear suspension. The wheels that I'm going for consist of rims from the AMT Ford Econoline "Phantom" kit with front tires from AMT Jeep CJ7 snap kit (Goodyear Tracker A-T) and rear tires are the two-part plastic tires from AMT Meyers Manx buggy. Engine is from the Polar Lights kit but I have modifed it and detailed it a bit with twincarb setup from the old Revell 68 bug kit. I have scratchbuilt IRS with with more suspensiontravel and modified the frontsuspension and also put on diskbrakes (from a Fujumi Mitsubishi kit in front and a Fujimi Suzuki kit in the rear). Will make a thread about the build on this forum soon.
  18. This looks like a cool project. I have seen that film but I have forgotten most of it, probably should get back to it I guess.
  19. Yeah, I also noted on that 57 Bel Air convertible sitting outside like an old wreck. A late model top of the line car that looks like it had been sitting outside for years is not very realistic. I would also agree with you that it would be better if they said it was March/April 1962 or something like that. The tuck'n'roll trick was something I picked up on another forum and luckily I had an old computer sitting on a shelf in the basement. I also read somewhere that one could use some type of paint on them so that you can get it in the color of your choice but I don't remeber what type of paint. I did try it with Humbrol and that did not work. Had to dip the cable in brakefluid to get it of.
  20. The biggest problem with it is the far to shot looking rear end and bed and the front (with the coupe-bit) is far to big. Could possibly have worked if they stretched it a bit between the rearend of the doors (B-pillar) and the infront of the rearwheels.
  21. Thank you Getting the DVD really helped me, you should look it up on ebay. The spanish name for it is Retorno al Condado de Macon. And for getting the shots, I have watched trough the movie at the slowest speed possible in VLC media player (I guess you can do it with other media players aswell) several times and tried to make as good refrenceshots as possible. I do belive that the enginesetup in the movie may be a fake "prop" setup but I'm not sure. Looks like it says HEADWELL or somehing like that on the airbox. Also looks like the chassis (or atleast parts of it) are painted in white from looking at the shots from the low down rearview where you can see white springs, fueltank and sparewheel well.
  22. Now if there ever was a LOL moment, this is the one.
  23. I did once pick up an old Airfix Cutty Sark sailship from a dumpster. I'm guessing the scale was about 1:150 or something like that so it was quite big and the kit was complete, unbuilt and even the box was fairly good. The dumpster I picked it out of was in the yard of a tirecompany so it was filled with old tires and innertubes so nothing really dangerous in terms of germs or bacteria but if it had been in the "human left overs" dumpster at the hospital then I would have left it there. It all dempends on what type of gabage it is surounded by. I do know several people that have picked up a lot of stuff from the dump as you many times can find a lot of things that are now where near broken or damaged. One guy I know found a laptop computer that looked like new, complete with chargercable and carrierbag. Turned out it had come infected with a computervirus so it needed a complete hard drive format and new OS install but after that it was very good and from the documentation he found with it it was only a couple of months old and it was one of the higher priced HP models. So I guess, some people just have to much money
  24. Thank you for the comments Yes it does look kind of strange without the sidetrim but I guess it was supposed to look like a teenagers custom. I'm not really sure that two young guys like that (and in the movie they are poor, they only got a little money and plan on driving to California) would drive a one year old 2 door hard top Bel Air with a tuned engine. The start of the movie proclaims that it is Summer 1958....alltough the trees are all bare and the grass on the ground looks very dead Anyway, I started a bit on this project back in October 2014 to build it for the themeclass at the Norwegian Challenge show in September 2015 is cars driven by or owned by Don Johnson. In this movie we do see a young Don Johnson togheter Nick Nolte as the main caracthers. I started a little on it back then, I sanded the body smooth and primed it: And then I started on making the tuck'n roll interior: I made some simple casts of the doorcards to make new doorhandles and such as I'm going to add them back on later. The doorcards where sanded smooth and I also filled in the holes that where left from the armrests. The Tuck'n roll was made from an old computercable (the type that went to the 3,5inch floppydisk drive for does who remeber such a fantastic technology) that I covered with white glue (wood glue) and when that has dried I can glue it to the doorcards and the seats with a little more white glue.
