1957 Chevrolet Bel Air from Return to Macon County
Atmobil replied to Atmobil's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here is som pics of the interior: -
I'm planning on building a model of the 57 Chevy in the movie Return to Macon County from 1976. My plan is to use the AMT "new tool" 57 from the 90s in the Pro Shop edition with photoetch parts. So far all I got is screengrabs from the movie, I managed to find a Spanish DVD version on Ebay (luckily still with original english soundtrack) and have made the screengrabs with VLC movieplayer. I have determined that the engine is equipt with a Paxton supercharger and as you can see it got tuck'n roll interior in white but looks to have had a black interior originally since the carpet and dashboard is black. Does anyone know anything about this car? I'm also wondering if anyone has a good idea on what yellow paint I could use for this one. All tips on how to get the details right are appreciated

I see some trikes here, I remember seeing this clip on old Top Gear, a trike with a jet engine: https://youtu.be/-MJFesHH0UA

Now that is an interesting way of transportation -
What?? No seatbelts and no fireproof suite? Only jeans and t-shirt and a helmet as clothing, where is this legally run motorsport today?

Sad day in Vintage Racing.

That is also a bit like the start of the F1 race at Spa in 98. -

Is it a museum or in a private collection then? I guess they could do something similar to that as to what they do to a lot of archaeological artefacts and keep it in a special chamber to keep the decay at bay. I know this is a bit off topic but I saw the live stage show when they got it up back in 2007 and was facinated with how bad it was and still looking like a complete car. -
Clarkson does it again.

Yes the very early seasons of old Top Gear is in todays eyes boring. I'm to young to have seen it myself but I started watching Top Gear on BBC World in the mid 90s and back then it was all Jeremy, Quentin and Tiff. I really loved the summer-run series that Clarkson did back then, the Motorworld and Extreme Machines series is still some of my absolute all time favourites. Here is a clip of the show from Japan https://youtu.be/7eDz1EkIB0Q Then there was later on (ca 2000-2001?) his series called Car Years and also Speed and Meets the Neighbours. All very good in my eyes. -

What ever happened to that one anyway? -

Does look like they will all be quitting Top Gear now so I guess this is the end for that show as we know it -

I'm not sure I think this is very sad at all, race cars being raced will always be in danger of crashing and the people that are in to this have wallets to cover repairs to such high-end machinery as this. As long as the drivers are ok, I'm ok with it. I see that the SL is a former wrecked car that has been built up back in the day so in a way this is just history repeating itself. -
I remember seeing pictures of a shorthened Mini built by Andy Saunders so I googled Short Mini....got a very different result than what I was looking for But here it is in a thread on Jalopyjournal: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/shortened-cars.329302/page-2 There is many other cool short ones in that thread.

Probably a familiarity thing, if a person from the Nordic countries moved straight to texas or california there would be a sort of climatechock. We are just not used to having "summer temperatures" in winter -
What did you see on the road today?

Is the Teslas rare over there? -
Really great looking model and a special subject that I have never known about before

I do also think that flying cars will be a disaster. What about the flying car made by one Dr. Moller (or something like that)? Remember seeing ads for it in a mailorder gadgetmagazine in the 90s and he was also on Discovery Channels Extreme Machines program in the late 90s talking about his soon to be available flying car. The magazine used to come in the mail a few times a year back then and it was always loaded with cool gadgets, many of a very james-bond-like type like spycameras andx-ray vision glasses.

Hehe, yes I do think that putting an engine on it will make it very scary. Here is a swedish one with a Honda CR450 motorbike engine, did almost 60 MPH and they wanted it to be faster. And here is one with "rocketpower" https://youtu.be/1UjDQCqAcDE -

And here is the worlds biggest: http://www.ostlendingen.no/nyheter/nord-%C3%B8sterdal/verdensrekorden-pa-tynset-har-falt-1.8615645 It is in Farsund and it is 17 meters tall, 5 meters wide and 8 meters tall. Before this was made the biggest one was to be found at Tynset: http://www.tynset.kommune.no/5795.Sparken-flere-bilder.html http://www.tynset.kommune.no/5785.Storsparken-pa-Tynset-torg.html This one is 5,25 meters tall, 3,72 meters wide and 11,60 meters long. I once tried sitting on it and I did feel rather small. It may not come as a surprice that it has been stolen, several times even and the time I sat on it, it was chained to a post. -

Kick sled would be a very good name for this one. In Norwegian it is called Sparkstøtting and "Spark" means kick and "Støtting" means something that supports something and in this case it supports the person using it. Here in Norway they are common but not commonly used anymore, much like riding horses and skiing it is now used for leisure but in earlier times this would have been used as a form of transport by many people around the country as private car ownership did not really take of until the 1960s and any form of public transport was not very common. A very common modification would be to put a crate of some sort on the seat and use it to go shopping. -
