No model room...what to do.
bonehead23 replied to Taxdude's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I moved 12 times in the 19 years i was married. It got to be a routine, get boxes, towels and cardboard and pack all 800 models. Upon unpacking there was always damage that had to be repaired. I would lay in a layer of cars, then towels, then cardboard, repeat until the box was full. The last 15 years i have been a model building bachelor in the same house and will never move again. I sympathize; find a niche to build no matter what. Moving is such a huge job I don't ever want to do it again so i bought the house a few years back. -
Jay Leno's Garage

I have been inspired to build some of his cars, like the Yenko Stinger. In response, Hell Yes i watch!!! It is a cool place to get ideas, and you can pause to inspect details. -
Defects, short shots and warpage

here's my latest dilemma...the reissued 1963 Corvette is a nice old kit, but the windshield looks like it was stepped on and put in the bag. I will have to go to the site yet again and order a replacement!!! Just my luck. -
The body is back from paint and is ready to finish detailing.
-
This particular casting is very smooth, no pinholes and needs only some wet sanding to make it perfect.I guess I got lucky. Other resin bodies in the past have been horrible and took a lot of work. This one is a peach.
-
Jimmy Flintstone has made a few bucks off me due to the incredible bodies he makes...this one is no exception and needs very little work to make it look good. Instead of a blown 427 i used a 302 four-barrel...not my usual engine but it fits like a glove.
-
Hopefully nobody else gets offended by me calling this a "29"..of course it is a kitbash, and I specified "with a BIG twist" so bless you, those that get it.
-
Well...maybe...but the frames, suspension, and engines plus a few other bits ARE indeed from the Revell '29 Ford kit..maybe not ACTUAL '29 Ford parts, but certainly from the kit of the same name....so call it what you want. Oh and it does have a '29 grille shell.

Wow! i have heard from some others about twin-engine rods...this proves they DO exist! I had a coupe bnody too, and several roadsteras, but thought the sedan was a good fit. Once it is chopped it will be gnarly.

Revell 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham - New Update Pics

You too? I got the Franklin car years ago, and had to completely repaint BOTH doors...whoever was in charge of painting these forgot to clean the doors before painting!! and it flaked off like it was water colors. But testor's bottle black did the trick, it looks fine. Don't be afraid to strip and repaint!!! -
Good Lord! There's so many cool ideas here my head is spinning. So today i MUST go back to Hobby Lobby and buy ALL the '29's in stock...I have at least five versions to build, inspired by this beauty. Why didn't I think of using a quickie? That is cool. And the wheel info will be useful on build #3...or #4...whatever...swapping wheels on this one is a challenge, but do-able...i used the wheels from a Tommy Grove funny on build #2....I absolutely am on pins and needles waiting for the COUPE!!!!!

I deleted all construction photos to make room for the finished model. See "Under Glass" and look for "Way 2 fast"

I did know that, as i have a friend who is TOTALLY Ford...but the Revell Parts Pack engine has...yup, you guessed it, the distributor in the rear!!! So that is how it panned out.

My First Completed Kitbash of Revell's '29A Hot Rod Roadster Kit...
bonehead23 replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
I intended to paint my version pearl white but changed to orange instead. I expect to see a plethora of these things, but you and I were first and i believe the best...so far!!!! Did you notice the "extra" dashboard with no gauge panel? I assume it goes with the coupe! -
Very nice use of kit parts here! I would be blown away if you told me it was an AMT Merc...but still, it looks like the real thing even more than the real thing!!! Revell made it so much easier to make a bitchin' Kustom Merc! Me and my friends usually avoid black. I get commissioned to spray and polish their black ones and man, the trouble I have seen! You know what I mean!

Anyone who is half-way hip would know that the AMT '69 Corvair has most of the parts needed to make a Yenko Stinger. I saw a Jay Leno video and tried to match it here. All I needed was the proper decals and it was a done deal. I did modify the sail panel, as on Jay's car the chrome drip rail is right in the middle of it...so i changed it a bit. other than that, it is as close as i could get to the real car...and add this one to the other five "Vair's I built this year....
-
Yup, great work...but somehow, I wonder why they even made this kit. Personal opinions may not count here, but this is one ugly car...just sayin'. Beautiful build, just a strange looking car. I might get one just to say i have one but doubtful i would build it...on second thought, it IS very unique...OH THE AGONY of decision!!!!
-
I used a 427 Ford mill, Midget Racer nose, 1970 Chevelle headers, and a few other bits and scratched parts,. I intended to paint it pearl white, but decided on Orange instead, to jive better with all the Tangerine running gear and interior. The top is an AMT unit and it was already blue so the stripes make sense...sorta.....
-
I already have two of these and intend to get a couple more. I love the brake detail, and chassis too, but I intend to use the Buick mill in a stretched sedan, using both Buick engines and a '32 body, since i have three extra frames and tons of leftover parts. meanwhile this one has a recessed firewall, 427 Ford mill, and a Midget racer nose , and 1970 Chevelle headers. So far, so good

I have the Poison Pinto and the Woodie Vega...I dig them out of storage, look them over, ALMOST build them, but relent and put them away. Just too cool to build which would devalue them excessively...so if they reissued any one of these, all bets are off...I will build the reissues and keep the originals intact. Both have nice engines and wheels etc...but too valuable to part out or build at this time. Considering the cost, I know they are out there and available...but not for the price they ask. Reissues please????.

Defects, short shots and warpage

Very interesting...I didn't realize what i had started, but a lot of information was revealed to me here, thanks. My original point was, that Round 2 (AND UNMENTIONED REVELL) will go beyond the call of duty to solve kit problems. They are there for us, in spite of China or Mexico or whatever country. Some things are beyond their control, but simply writing to the company and filling out the request for parts form really does work, I got decals and a White truck cab replacement simply by asking for it...nicely that is. No bitching allowed or they won't respond!!!LOL -
The graphics in Russian are exactly that...it is a candy wrapper. I liked the lettering and the silly looking cow!!!It says 'Kopobka Taffy Candy" or some such. But I thought it would be 100% unique...who else has one of these???

I wanted to share with everyone something John Greczula said to me when i had a short-shot on a White truck cab, a broken bumper in a '55 Nomad, and other small problems. He sent me a replacement cab, and told me that he and other employees like Doug Ridge at Round 2 work endlessly trying to provide a quality product. Some things are out of his control, like rough handling or temperature, but he advised me to inform Round 2 any time there is warpage, missing parts, or other stuff like a short-shot.. He suggested sending photos if possible. I am convinced that John and his crew work tirelessly on this. He said it is difficult to get quality control people to spot small errors, especially when they don't really know what they are looking at!!! (Something to do with China perhaps?) At any rate, I think all of us should realize they are doing their best but things slip by. I buy so many kits that the odds of all of them all being 100% perfect are slim...but bitching about the company is just wrong; simply report any problems to Round 2 and i believe we will get better product. I gained a lot more respect for John and Round 2; they really do care about their product, quirky reissues included...and you have to admit it, kits are better than ever. Stuff happens, and when it does, don't panic, contact Round 2, take some photos, and send in the form for replacement that you will find on their site.
