I never cut the shaft. I let the shaft go all the way in the motor. Always seems to work fine. I am sure there are some who cut the shaft a little bit shorter, but it should still should work OK.
Thanks to all with the congrats. My son just sent me 40 pictures and 2 movie clips. Needless to say, the wife is over the moon about this. She spent over an hour just gong thru the pics. This sure is fun.
