  1. not much to look at really but the front end is now done except for painting. Made some U shaped channel and pinned the "steering uprights" that came in the kit in them then glued them to the chassis plate. Made some tie rods from thin brass to connect it together and topped it off with the lower A arms from an old MPC TransAm kit. Like I said, not much to look at but it is functional.
  2. Lindberg '67 Olds 442. I was really looking forward to this kit when it came out as one of my favorite uncles had a 1/1 '67 Cutlass for almost as long as I could remember. Got the kit home and seen the front end and put it away. Looks more like an early '60s Lincoln front end than a Cutlass. I eventually figured out what was off and how to fix it but the ambition to do it has long since worn off.
  3. The one thing that bugs me about the current '66 Riviera kit engine is the lack of a pan for the valley beneath the intake manifold. Just seems like a part missing since the rest of it is so nicely done. Some BUICK lettering for the sides of the valve covers would have been nice also but not as big a deal to me.
  4. I think anything that could be easily reissued from AMT/MPC has been already. '66 Bonneville? ,, modified yearly until the '70 cvt. that ModelKing reissued a couple years ago. Either the Monaco or Polara [not sure which] was modded into a full custom called the "Magnum GT II" AMT '61 Buick Invicta was updated to the '62 Electra which was reissued not long ago. The AMT '61 Bonneville was updated to the '62 last seen as the "Polyglass Gasser" in the late '60s. Doubt they'd reissue it even if they could find it seeing as they have the newer tooling Catalina now. The '64 Cutlass CVT was modded into an altered wheelbase drag car. There have been some pics of the kit popping up lately so who knows on that one. IIRC, the hardtop used most of the same parts. I do wonder about the '64 Pontiacs. There seem to be some of the parts used in them in the reissued '65s like the engines but again ?? Keep in mind that these are all "educated guesses". I'd LOVE to be proved wrong about any of them being "reissueable"
  5. No, I didn't have one when I built this car. The suspension is from a Revell Buttera T sedan on a much modified AMT '32 frame with crossmembers and suspension mounting points made from scratch.
  6. I thought I'd post this up seeing we just had some great news from Revell about an all new tool '29 hotrod. I built this about 10 years ago from the AMT kit. [what else? LOL] Loads of mods, kitbashing and some scratchbuilding. Some have already seen it , some haven't so here it is.
  7. Humm,, I wonder if the engine will be easily swappable with the '32 kits? Kinda like AMT did way back when with the trophy series hotrods? That would be cool.
  8. Thanks on the cowl. The carb ,, Yea, I know now but I didn't back then. In my defense though, it is how it shown to be installed in the instructions. BTW, the new engine has a quadrajet instead of the Holley and a different air cleaner assembly so I won't be able to make the same mistake again. Thanks Chris.
  9. Yes, That's what I mean, the fender peaks. Must be just me but they look huge to me. In fact, I always thought there was a smooth line from the trunklid to where the 1/4 drops off. Guess I was mistaken.
  10. The top of the 1/4 panels have a slight "V" on top at the outer edges where it should be a gentle arch right to where it ends and curves down. All other kits of this generation Camaro got it right but not this one for some reason. Maybe it's because in some pics I've seen of the real cars it look that way because of the play of light and reflections on the top of the 1/4s. I haven't seen anyone else ever correct this on the kit but since you have the real car to compare it to and you pay such attention to detail you will be able to see just where the kit is wrong. Not even gonna mention the shape of the headlight bezels, I don't think any Camaro kit got that quite right.
  11. You are going to do something to correct the top of those 1/4 panels, aren't you Mark?
  12. Bill ,, I know that the original question was about the '66. I was just saying that according to the info in the Olds brochure, Steve Andrews seemed to be correct about the '70 and that I had no idea and had never heard before that power brakes weren't available on those cars in that year. I was not saying anything you were saying was incorrect in any way. I apologies if it sounded that way to you.
  13. Sounds weird but in the Olds '70 performance brochure it lists power disk brakes available for the '70 442 W-30 as option code JL2 but it has "automatic only" in brackets under it. So, it does look like no power brakes for standard transmission W-30 442s in '70. I'd never heard of this before, I had no idea. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/static/NA/Oldsmobile/1970%20Oldsmobile/1970_Oldsmobile_Performance_Brochure/1970%20Oldsmobile%20Performance-10-11.html
  14. really sweet ! You don't often see someone shave off the trim under the rear window, nice touch.
  15. Here's another little update. The glass and interior is installed along with the firewall. You can see in these pics how the scratchbuilt cowl area looks finished. I robbed the rad and fan shroud from a Monogram 1/24 GTO. Took a bit of trimming but I think it'll look good when finished. Also,, I'm really happy with how the windshield fit on this car. I don't usually seem to be able to get hem to fit this good. I'm also robbing the engine from the Monogram kit. I was using one from an old kit I built when they first came out in the early '80s for mockup purposes. I liked how it looked so I'm building another one almost identical for this car. Maybe a bit better build quality than the one I did over 30 years ago though. [30+ year old engine on the left, new one on the right.]
  16. Depends if the car had power brakes or not. , , no power brakes, no booster.
  17. Looks like the love child of a Cadillac Catara and a jellybean CrownVic.
  18. Nice! . . The widened Camaro rally wheels are a nice touch.
  19. From what I can see in your pics, the problem on the doors isn't ghosting, you just don't have all the molding completely sanded off. It looks raised , ghosting usually leaves a shallow depression wherever something is removed and is caused from using a "hot" laquer based paint, Tamiya primer shouldn't cause ghosting. I think you just need to do some more sanding , using something hard behind the paper like a sanding block. Hard to find one that small but wrapping your sandpaper around a popsicle stick should do the trick.
  20. Man, that looks like an old RCMP cruiser. They'd paint the doors to match the rest of the car and strip out the police equipment when they got rid of them. That car is the exact colour blue RCMP used on their cruisers in the '70s.
  21. I'll be keeping an eye on this one. Love the 3rd Gens.
  22. Snowing here again. Was supposed to have some people over tonight as I'll be 50 at midnight. Cancelled on account of snow.
  23. Gee Ron, looks like a likely candidate to become one of these. Just need the roof from a Grand Prix and a bit of work for the grille, taillights and probably interior.
  24. Some great tips there Snake. I knew about the back window trim and have done that on some other cars as well but never really notices the side window moldings and around the grille. I'll certainly be doing those mods when I get around to building another one of those AMT Camaros. Thanks.
