  1. Not 100%sure but I think the boss 302 in the AMT '69 Cougar could easily pass for a 351C.
  2. No problem Rob, they're "Sovereigns" from Pegasus. Not really all that big, about the same size as a 15 inch wheel in1/24 scale. maybe like a 16 in 1/25. They do look good on big cars though. Just wish they came in a bit narrower width too though.

  4. LOL.. It was built and painted when I got it actually. I stripped it and it's in the middle of having the top chopped in that pic. The pic below is a little farther along. I haven't worked on it in almost a year but hope to get back to it soon. It's going the full custom treatment. Good eye, that is indeed a '73. I kinda have a full set of full-size chevy models now, every year from '53 to '76. If you like, PM me and I'll send you the headlights from the '62. As I said, it'll be a full custom so I won't need them anyway.
  5. I have one of the MCG pe sheets for the '67 Camaro. A friend picked it up at NNL East a couple years ago for me. I was planning to use it on the AMT kit of corse but,, Of the 4 main CAMARO scripts , every one was "short shot" and unusable. I did e-mail the company but never heard back. So now I have the sheet to use on the Revell kit if I choose but no script for the fenders.

  7. yea, Steve's right, they did come in whatever color plastic they had on hand that day. It's not uncommon to get a chrome tree in a different color as the bodies either. Even swirlie plastic in 2 or more colors isn't that uncommon for those old JoHan chrome tree. The 2 '62s I have now are shown in the pic and I had one back around '77 or '78 that was molded in red too.
  8. After looking at the pics of the parts etc., I still say that except for the euro spec bumpers, it's a pretty accurate representation of a Canadian spec '79 GTi. The early Canadian GTis were built in Germany, not the USA. I had a base model 4dr '79 Rabbit back in the mid '80s and it used the same engine as the Canadian GTis , looks exactly the same engine as on the parts tree in the pics. Also, since Canadian VW dealers stocked the euro spec parts, it was possible [though I've never seen one] that a Canadian Rabbit could have been refit with all the euro GTi parts. Maybe instead of marketing it as a "California Wheels" kit it should have been a "Vancouver Wheels" kit. LOL
  9. Reading through this thread and it's occurred to me that no one has mentioned a glaring mistake in the newer kits. The top of the rear fenders is way off. There should be a smooth transition between the sides and top of the fenders, not a kick-up on top like on the kit. I'm not sure if it would be better to sand the "mini tailfin" off or try to fill in the channel it has created. I see a lot of pics of the real cars where it looks like the kit is correct but it's just how the body catches the light in the pics. Hopefully, this pic will show how the body should look.
  10. Thanks guys. Been busy this afternoon. This is about it for the cowl. I now need to hit it with some semigloss black and foil the wipers and stainless trim strip at the bottom of the glass.

  13. Finished up the resin interior today. Just paint detail some foil and flocking. It's painted with the same dark blue I used on the body. It's actually a pretty good match for the dark blue used in the 1/1 cars. I cut the sides from the rest of the bucket to make it easier to detail. Also added a couple resin arm rests I had on hand. I also added some simple wipers made from plastic strips to the scratch-made cowl area.
  14. Like the guys said, MCW makes one. I got one several years ago but never built it because the roof conversion was done so poorly.
  15. I think the main reason the Tamiya clears have a bad rep is the way people use them. Most times I hear someone trying to tint a window with them by hoseing it on the part and hoping it dries nice. You wouldn't try painting a body or engine like that so why would someone think it would work well on anything else? They work just fine if you use it like any other paint [which, of corse it is] and airbrush on a few light coats letting them dry a bit between coats. when you get the darkness you want, clearcoat it and polish it out. That's how I did the light grey tint on the rear windows of this Rabbit. If I wanted a darker tint I would have just put a few more coats of smoke on the glass before I clearcoated it and polished it out.
  16. Yes, definitely leave it as is as a memory of your father. You'll be glad you did someday. It's actually pretty close to the drag version of the kit. I only see a different injector/scoop on the engine, everything else beside the paint and decals is how the kit came.
  17. Looks pretty good to me. One question though,, why didn't you foil the windshield frame? Just seems odd as you foiled the rest of the trim.

  19. yup, what Snake said. I'm working on one right now. MPC body and interior from Missing Link resin. I'm using an AMT Chevelle chassis because it's what I had handy but there's other more detailed options.
  20. I'd bet 1/2 my collection that R+R GS was copied directly from one of the Perry's Resin kits. It even had the same incorrect flattened front bumper and grille. Don't know if Perry's still makes it but I understand wait times from them are VERY long.

  24. Just for the record. We had GTi Rabbits here in Canada in '79. Looked pretty well like the box illustration except for the larger North American bumpers. It had the standard 1.6 engine though.
