Non-Yellowing Clearcoat-In Search Of
Can-Con replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's Tamiya bottle acrylics Brian. Gloss black and clearcoat. Thinned with cheap rubbing alcohol. There's 5 or 6 coats of clear on it, wet sanded with 6000 or 8000 grit between coats to bury the edges of the decals. Last couple coats probably didn't even need the wet sanding. Maybe yours wasn't fully dry when you polished it. I generally let mine sit for a few days. -

Just stay away from enamel clear. Laquers and acrylics are safe. ,,,and as far as acrylics polishing out as good as fresh steamy turd?? I submit this fresh steamy turd cleared with acrylic and polished out. -
Jo-Han 1971 and 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado comparison
Can-Con replied to fomocomav's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The '71 also has the louvers on the trunk lid that every '71 full size GM car had for ventilation. Only year they had that. The engine and chassis are exactly the same parts that were in all JoHan toros since '66. [also Caddy Eldorados except for the CADILLAC lettering on the valve covers] Here's a couple shots of my '72 Toro -
Was a 250 Chevy six ever in a kit

So, what year did they move the distributor from the middle to the front of the engine? -
Here's one I've been working on.

No problem. I felt compelled to say that somehow ,, kinda like a zombie hungry for brains.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Exactly. Paul Hettick has been building up his customer base for a decade or more now. If I put any of mine on the bay I would be surprised to get much over 100 bucks until I had a good reputation built. I built this Plymouth specifically to sell on e-bay about 11 years ago. All I got for it was $109.00, IIRC.Not bad but not good for 40 hours work either. But, I may be tempted to try again some time. Replica stock though, less work for the buck.

I did notice the new wheels. Too bad they're sized to fit those undersized generic tires Revell's been putting in their kits lately I'll definitely be getting one though..

70-73 camaro front nose with full bumper
Can-Con replied to grt222's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I dunno ,, I really can't see the original full bumper/grille piece working with the new kit that easily seeing as it's an RS split bumper car. You'd also need the front facia, or at least the proper parking lights and some surgery on the grille surround. -
I think the Nissan Juke has top honours now.

The optional engine in the AMT '49 Mercury has always been a 426 Max Wedge.

'76 Dodge longbox
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I can't remember if this is one I cast myself or one I got elsewhere. I replaced the headlights and alcladded it myself. The one Modelhaus sells would be a copy of the kit peice with the molded in headlights and the grille openings molded over and chrome plated but since you can't order on line,,, Modelhaus used to take money orders so you might want to send them an e-mail and ask if they still do. You might be able to get the parts from them good old "mail order". -

Um, no guys, it's no where near finished yet. If it were, I would have put this post in the "under glass" section. I still have to do the front marker lights too. John, I had the paint mixed at a local autobody supply store ages ago. The tailights are from Modelhaus. The chrome bezel is a separate part, same as that came in the kit originally. -

Been tinkering with one for a couple years now in between other projects. Paint is Butterscotch auto enamel with Tamiya white acrilyc. Going for a '70s retro vibe with the wheels.Large Pegasus vantage units modified to be deeper and narrowed a bit. I painted the centers white to suggest the white "wagon wheels" that were so popular in the '70s and early '80s. -
Does anybody make a '68 Impala kit
Can-Con replied to 06daytona's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't give up yet. Good buys sometimes still happen. I went to a crappy local flea market a few years ago with some friends. Didn't expect fo find anything model related at all but came across a box of stuff almost as I entered the building. This were in it,, Also this original AMT '70 Monte Carlo annual,, Plus a couple other things ,, all for 5 bucks. Been working on the Impala off and on and it looks like this now,, -
"It's all good" and "Perfect" when someone takes your order and such.

What are the best kit Magnum 500s with trim ring?
Can-Con replied to VRM's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I think wether the wheels have trim rings or not depends on how the car was optioned, not year. I've seen 500s in all chrome, all painted without rings, all painted with rings and chrome centers/painted rim with trim rings. There were also 3 or 4 different sizes of center caps for them depending on which car they were on. They were also sold aftermarket which adds even more variables. The ones on my 1/1 Nova were originally from an early '70s Olds Cutlass and had the painted rim/chrome centers with rings but they were also available all chrome on those cars. -
Thinned acrylic. Future is just a very thin low quality acrylic clearcoat..

What are the best kit Magnum 500s with trim ring?
Can-Con replied to VRM's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I had a set of nice deep 500s on my 1/1 '79 Nova. The best looking ones I've come across are the ones in the AMT '70 Chevelle. Cant remember if they were chrome rim or trim ring style though. Second are the ones in the AMT/MPC newer chassis B-body Plymouth kits. ['68 Road Runner,'69 GTX, '70 Super Bee] Those definitly have the trim rings. All the ones I've seen in all the Revell and Monogram kits are just too shallow. -
Before taking at that clear windshield you might want to place it on the body like you did with the frame. I think you'll find that it's the frame that's off, not the glass. [as Bill said] If so, simply glue the frame to the glass, clamping them together at the ends until the glue's completely set , them glue it to the body as one assembly.
