Jo-Han 66 Olds Toronado question...
Can-Con replied to PowerPlant's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One thing to consider is that would should be a pretty easy fix. You don't need an original body for the pillar. One from the new tool AMT '66 Riviera should work fine. Also, the old tool '69 will work, in fact, the glass from the AMT '69 Riv fits pretty good in those JoHan Toros, I've tried it. If you do go that route, I'd replace both A pillars, just so they're 100% the same. -
A '69 Blazer and a '70 Jimmy
Can-Con replied to Fabrux's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Hey Chris , you missed an epic estate sale this weekend. Mostly sports cars though, no trucks that I seen. Anyway, in that engine, you might also want to move the distributor closer to the front. Most people miss this detail. -
Picked up this kit at an estate sale yeaterday. There were an amazing number of '80s and '90s issue Fujimi, Tamiya and Hasagaua sports car kits there. LeMans cars, formula1 cars, european touring cars etc. Multiples of about every Fujimi Porsche "enthusiast model" kit for $35 [CDN] a peice. Not a great price but still cheaper than the bay.

I've been using "live 365" for years. They have over 5 thousand stations so you probably could find one you like. Most of them are free too. http://www.live365.com/

Tres T/As ,, 3 '79 TransAms. Green one painted and decaled.
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
hopefully, soon Curtis. , I had problems with the green paint on the second one and it set me back some. I have the glass in the red one and the interior can go in. -
The "really strange looking mags" are factory AMC rallye wheels.

Here's a pic of them Robert.

Modelhaus does a '50 Crestliner 2dr sedan conversion and a '51 Crestliner with the correct parts to make it a '51.

After sleeping on it ,,I'd like to offer an apology to Ron for helping get this thread so far off topic and thank him for taking his time doing up the original post and taking all those pics so we can all see what's in the kit.

That's OK, I'm usually wrong ,, maybe even right now. LOL All I'm saying is everyone I know calls them hubcaps for as long as I can remember so we're all wrong. We also call snowmobiles skidoos and the electricity bill a "hydo bill" . It's just slang,,just the way we talk. No big deal.
-
Maybe it's a regional thing. I'm 50 and everyone I've known since I was old enough to know what they were talking about called them hubcaps.

That's absolutely gorgeous

I got mine at the same time as the first Batman movie was in the theatres so that would have been the summer of '89. -
Pontiac version of the Chevette (T-1000?)
Can-Con replied to fomocomav's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm sure the only Chevette kits ever offered were the MPC annuals for '77.'78 and '79. No T-100 or Acadians. In fact, I'd bet my whole collection on it. Academy did a Daywoo built Pontiac LeMans in the late '80s or early '90s, maybe that's what the OP is thinking of. -
Here's a tasty tip for baby moon caps. Buy a box of these ,, eat them all right away! , , I promise they'll taste better than furniture nails. Notice they're packaged on a little vacuuformed tray in the shape of little cups. Flip it over and check between the cups that hold the candy,, See all the smaller "domes" between the bigger ones? They're easy to trim out. There's 15 in every box and just look at the size in a regular 1/25 steel wheel,, Pretty sweet, Eh?

Roy, I just checked. MCG does still have that set in their website. It has all the emblems [GS GSX and Skylark] plus the mesh for the grille opening.

Homemade Headlight Lenses
Can-Con replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I cast all the round lenses on my Warlock with a "crystal clear" casting resin I got at Michaels. -
I'm about 99% sure that car is a '62 Chevy factory color called "Roman red" ,, Scale finished has it.

I'm really not a big fan of "patina rods" but I gotta say, that's about the best build of that kit I've seen yet ! [Mike's right though, that's a 210, BelAirs were the top level Chevys and had the wide trim on the back with contrasting paint color inside.]
-
That's pretty cool . I have a built-up '77 and one of those custom ones I originally built back in the late '70s I've been thinking about starting a rebuild on every time I come across a pic of one. Nice to see the more obscure cars being brought back to life.

Shelf Life of Clear Coat? - Spiderwebs
Can-Con replied to Quick GMC's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Lacquer will do that if it's mixed too thick. Just add some more thinner and it should be OK. -
They used the same grille, just different emblems. There was a company that did a detail set for the car but I think they went out of business years ago. Model Car Garage picked up some of their PE sets, not sure if they have their GSX set but it's possible.

Well,, OK, if you say so. I'm not saying it's the wrong wiper motor, I'm saying it's not a wiper motor at all. Looks nothing like any of the wiper motors in any of your pics. or any I've ever seen, and I've been looking for years. The only thing it looks like to me is the beep beep horn. The little pin that's sticking out at about 9 O-clock as you have it mounted is the mounting pin that sticks into the rad wall. It's ben in the kit and marked wrong on the instructions since the '68 Road Runner was first released back in the late '80s. The wiper motor in your last pic is the one that was in the kits on the chrome tree. But, anyway, If it's the only thing in the kit well.. Who am I to say it's wrong? Here's a couple pics of what I did with it anyway. Mixed the lavender color as close as I could, wish I had a decal for it too but I've never seen any. ,, and a pic of a real one,,
