  1. Engine is assembled as far as I want to take it right now, while I consider an intake setup and new alternator from somewhere. All ready to strip the lame chrome with some oven cleaner now. Thoughts or ideas?
  2. Interior is molded in a color that I highly approve, and I'll try to match that color as close as I can when I paint it. No door knobs or restraining straps, which is odd, but I may just proceed without those, I'm not sure yet.
  3. Body prep work is now well underway. It appears I may have to grind some material off of the bottom of the bed portion to get it to mate properly with the frame, but that should be a snap.
  4. What I meant was, what was the modeled subject of your award?
  5. That's just great, Pete, and just what I was asking about; what, exactly, do modelers see as elevated above and beyond.
  6. I had a kit of this car too at one point, not Tamiya though, but some other Japanese manufacturer. As I recall, it was really pretty nice.
  7. Very nice indeed. Thanks for the link, I really appreciate that.
  8. Or trade it all for something else. As far as I know, trades don't necessarily need to be cars or trucks. I once traded some car stuff for several 1:48 aircraft kits.
  9. What was the subject, if I might ask?
  10. One thing I'm completely ignorant of, do judges ever pick up the cars to look at the bottoms?
  11. Thanks a ton, Richard, that is totally stunning.
  12. I have no idea, really. Mine will probably be blue or orange. Wasn't there a car model some time back that had a huge beer keg where a truck bed might have been located?
  13. Since I joined this site five years ago, I've yet to finish even one car model, so storage is no issue for me.
  14. In another thread, someone mentioned car models that were kicked up a notch. I'd really like to see some samples from car model contests where the model is thought to be one of these "raise the bar" models. I'd also like to know your opinion as to what makes the model (or models) so special, in your own view. Thanks, fellas, this might just be some real fun.
  15. The Testors Root Beer is a great color for this. I used some on a GTX I was working on, and it looks totally killer.
  16. What annoys me the most about this model, is there's no option at all for a top down configuration, and absolutely no framework for the up top.
  17. That can most certainly happen, no question about it. After a while, all Fw 190's begin to look the same, as a for instance, but each subject is judged as a new entry, unless there's a suspicion we've already judged it in a previous year.
  18. So would I, big time. It might be so subjective though, as to get dragged into an opinion war, which is not what I really want to see. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.
  19. I've been a local and regional aircraft judge for many, many years now, and sometimes we just remember, especially if someone enters the same model two years in a row. The local club also keeps a photographic record of all entries, so these things can be verified, if need be.
  20. I hadn't realized it was sort of a zombie thread, so thanks for that. I'd still like to see some photos of what people tend to think is extraordinary work though. Perhaps I'll start a new thread on that very subject.
  21. By golly, I think you may be right. It won't really be a truck at all.
