Testors metalflake spray bombs
Roadrunner replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's my thought too, to do some tribute cars to ones I built as a kid, where I can actually remember what was what. I already bought some metalflake blue for a '32 Ford Phaeton, as that was one of my all-time favorites from those long ago days. -

Yep, one of several metalflakes that have now returned. -
I buy most of my Tamiya spray paints from Model Roundup.

What non-auto model did you get today?
Roadrunner replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Just arrived today, via a deal with an old pal. -
Recurring dreams, especially thematic ones (if they're recurring, I suppose they're all thematic) have been standard fare for me for many years. Probably the worst of the lot, is dreaming over and over again about living in a house that leaks really, really bad whenever it rains, soaking and ruining lots of my precious stuff, including carpets, bedding, walls, ceilings and furniture. The last house I owned, did in fact have a very leaky basement, and some bad areas in the roof as well. While the roof was repaired, the basement never really was, so a damp basement was always an issue there. I suppose that's where that particular dream theme comes from, but it's quite annoying, nonetheless. Another, which I fortunately haven't had in quite some time, is finding myself covered with tiny worm-like insects that are burrowing into my skin.

Curiosity and impatience won out, so I went ahead and clear coated and polished all of my current samples, just to get a better understanding of their final appearance (or at least that’s what I told myself). The third spoon (on the far right), is Testors metalflake blue enamel over Tamiya white lacquer primer, with Testors clear lacquer on top. Right now I’m leaning heavily toward the clear blue over diamond dust for the Phaeton, but still have plenty more experimentation to do, and plenty of time to do it.

Bingo, me too.

Interesting idea. I may have to enter, assuming I can actually finish anything in time.

Doing some spoon tests here, trying to determine what blue I want to use for my Phaeton, as well as a Ferrari Enzo. Spoon on the left is Tamiya clear blue over Testors diamond dust. Spoon on the right is Tamiya clear orange over the same Testors diamond dust, for a '40 Willys that I'm also currently working on. Neither has been clear coated nor polished, as these are just for color selection. The orange is not going to make it for the Willys, but may come in useful on some future car model project.

Nice! This is the '41?

Outstanding, as I've now come to expect from you.

Looks great. I really like that engine.

That makes sense to me. Thanks a bunch for that info.

I don't see why Revell couldn't have just done both fenderless and full fendered in the same kit, as they most certainly did in their sweet little '32 Ford 5-window coupe, the very next kit I'm likely to purchase (only because it's full fendered). As to some division between two camps regarding what's classic, I was unaware of that, or to what degree that is perceived as any issue at all for that matter. In the meanwhile, I'm still stuck with the same dilemma, do I buy this fenderless version to use some decent parts on a full fendered version, or not. I probably eventually will, but I still see it as a bit of a shame that I'd even have to resort to that at all.

My experience is related to Tamiya aircraft and armor decals only, and they're generally just terrible. Candidates for the trash can, in almost every instance.
