Thanks a bunch. I had the old Blue Beetle way back when, and I clearly remember a surfboard, scuba tanks and some other cool stuff in the kit, as well as the three carb setup. I think the kit, while very basic in certain aspects, has marvelous potential. I hope to make mine look the way I'd want a real one to look, were I to ever own a real one.

I absolutely understand that, Steve. For the most part, I have little to no interest in wheel wells of aircraft models. On the rare occasion that I do decide to dress them up, the references images seem to provide an almost limitless amount of "correct" details to add, and I soon feel rather bogged down by it all, only to take it to a show and realize that nobody knows the difference anyway,... or cares.

How to be competitive at contests.

Any photos to show examples of what you're referring to? -
Now this is really looking nice. I love that color.

Not the same thing, but along the same lines, I have a small battery powered fingernail sander here, purchased from the local Dollar Tree, and it's pretty darned handy for certain applications.

The High Cost of the Hobby
Roadrunner replied to Nitrobarry's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd imagine the optics of his day were a far cry from what we have available now, that's for sure. What I really wish, is that the light pollution here locally (probably Bortle 9, or worse), was as low as when Messier cataloged all of his stuff in Paris. Now that would be outstanding. -

Excellent. Any photos of your scopes? I'm actually rather stunned at how clearly I can see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn. And for the moon, the 102m is just great, crystal clear and sharp as a razor. -
I have a '65 here, but haven't even started it yet. This thread will be handy when I do though. I'll be building as a tribute to a dear lost friend, who had one when he was 20.

71 chevelle childhood replica
Roadrunner replied to johnny rocket's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Cool idea. While I have no real cars to model from my own past, I do have at least two cars to do as tributes to two of my favorite car models from my youth, both of which are unfortunately long gone now. -
Same, same. I generally don't get too worked up over the chassis on any car modeler, so tend to spend very little time on them at all

How cool. I've yet to get a bug for my collection, but certainly will, eventually.

Astronomy? What sort of telescope do you have? I got a Meade 102mm two years ago and absolutely love it, though I'd eventually like to bump up to an 8" Refractor. -
That really sucks, for an older fella in particular. I broke my left shoulder (upper Humerus) a few months back, and I have to say that was near the top of the all-time worst pains that I've ever experienced.

Revell Ferrari Enzo, how does it build?
Roadrunner replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Excellent. I may have to look into that. I also noticed that Tamiya sells its own detail set, but I've not seen it separately from the kit. -

I understand. One look at the prices I was seeing, and I knew it wasn't for me. -
I just received this in the mail today. Thanks a bunch, Joe, I really appreciate the trade.

I'm going to go ahead and park this here, though I fear it will be soon be dragged down to the netherworld, but here goes anyway. This old Monogram kit has been a favorite of mine for many years, so since I recently shelved a Chevelle that I'd been working on, decided it was time to drag this one out and get busy. Box is a bit tattered, but kit itself is in great shape. I'll certainly be losing those funky farm tractor tires and replacing with some nice AMT versions, or similar.

Revell Ferrari Enzo, how does it build?
Roadrunner replied to Roadrunner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just discovered last night that Tamiya also does a 1:12 Enzo, but it's way out of my league, price-wise. Darn shame, as that would make a great looking presentation. -

I'm more or less the opposite. While I've been in the hobby for years and years, and had accumulated quite a bit in the way of aircraft and armor kits in the past, my re-entry back into car modeling is only a fairly recent development. Since that re-entry, I now find myself on a very limited budget (Social Security, thank god for FDR), and have to pick and choose wisely as to what models to purchase. -

That I did not know. Thanks. Tamiya certainly has a history of setting the bar high, that's for sure. I've heard of spark erosion, if that's the process you're referring to, and that's fairly common today with a lot of manufacturers, apparently.
