  1. A gateway to the fourth dimension. I have one here too; I think it's where all of my ballpoint pens go.
  2. A bit off topic so my apologies, but did you know that oven cleaner will eat steel? (I did not.) I'm working on an AMT '40 Willys and one of the wheels, which I needed to strip the chrome from, has a metal axle that's really stuck into it; so bad in fact, that I'm afraid I'll break the wheel trying to remove it. Using the axle as a holder of sorts, I spritzed it with some new oven cleaner, then forgot about it. The axle had what looked like brown slime on it, and when I rinsed it off, part of the axle had been eaten away.
  3. And here we go. I'm strongly considering the use of Woodland Scenics turf, as it's actually quite fine and may work well.
  4. I don't recall adding any, though I did (and still do) own several tubes of old "Funny Fur".
  5. Excellent. Great minds apparently do think alike. If I'll not easily be able to see it on the finished model, then I see no reason to waste time with it, as time is a very precious commodity that I prefer not to squander.
  6. That's a good point I suppose, though I'm still not too happy about it. Rules are rules though, and I can certainly respect that. I have one or two Camino's also, '59 and '65, so I guess they'll get dragged down to the netherworld too.
  7. I have one kit for sure that will get Testors Mystic Emerald (AMT Mustang AWB Funny Car), and it's very sparkly, but it's also almost a dead match for the Pactra green that I used on the same kit many, many years ago. This model, as well as all of the others I built when I was a kid, are all long gone now, so I'll be building it again, as a tribute to my own younger days (but will hopefully look much better than this).
  8. That is just stunning, Steve. I like your work so much.
  9. Do it! I'll be the first one to tell you how awesome it is.
  10. I don't really see it that way at all. Most of us here, I suspect, really enjoy looking at very well done car models. When we see something that obviously falls flat, for any one of dozens of reasons, we're just disappointed, that''s all. If the individual modeler is happy with his results, then I'm happy for him.
  11. Guilty as charged. The Testors cans are perhaps the worst; unfortunately I have quite a few of them, mostly new too.
  12. I can't say that I like that idea a lot. I have '29 and '53 pickups still to do. They're going to eventually end up in the truck section? That just became my new pet peeve.
  13. 1:24 scale for true fidelity, otherwise 1:48 would probably be OK. The real problem of course, is that 1:24 decals, though great for aircraft models, are probably downsized considerably for a 1:24 car, so the smaller scale would be better. 1:72 might actually work too, depending on which specific markings you're after.
  14. Bingo! PB has really been screwing over thousands of folks with their extortion attempt, watermarked images and now this blurry nonsense. I moved all of my stuff to ImageShack and haven't looked back, and would highly advise others to do the same.
  15. There's a military surplus store near here that has models from time to time. Usually junk kits though (that he buys for five cents on the dollar).
  16. I was finally able to find some of my Tamiya semi gloss acrylic clear, so spritzed the seats to give more of a sheen to them. I had to washout the photo with a flash, just to show them at all. They actually look much better in person.
  17. Thanks a bunch. I certainly will when the time comes. Right now I'm trying to finish off a '40 Willys gasser, then I may well move onto this kit-bash, as my confidence has grown to a point where I now think I can pull it off, at least I certainly hope so.
  18. As a followup, last night, while looking for something completely different, I uncovered my own AMT convertible kit. All things considered, it's much better than I'd remembered. Mish-mashing parts between the two kits now seems very doable indeed. As to scale differences, in my aircraft modeling, five different manufacturers' interpretations of scale accuracy for the same aircraft, often leads to five different dimensional differences between the same aircraft, so I don't sweat scale too much, I'll just make it fit.
  19. Oh yes, I do it all the time, and it's ultra frustrating. To counter that, I now tend to not clip a part off until I'm absolutely ready to glue it on. I'll also Ziploc a bag with any loose parts and put it in the box. I'll soon be grabbing a large Rubbermaid container just for loose parts that are accumulating all over the place, and dump them all in there.
  20. I have the AMT '69 convertible and am looking real forward to tackling that. As a rule, I won't mess much with the interior of a fully roofed car, but a convertible is a whole other story.
  21. I may. Finding the MPC kit may be impossible, not without paying a fortune for it anyway. That doesn't bother me at all, as (aside from the color), it's more or less identical to what I had, though mine was not a hatchback. Sorry for the thread drift, Joe.
  22. Not really into die-cast, though it would certainly be better than nothing. Thanks,
  23. Engine now gets some paint slopped on. I'm quite confident that about 95% of the engine will never be seen anyway, so was none too careful in painting it.
  24. Another thing that I don't care for here, is the fact that the blower end plates extend well beyond the body of the blower itself, which I have never seen on a real blower. Did they just make this stuff up as they went along, or what?
  25. Thanks a bunch. I'm having fun with this, that's for sure.
