  1. Thank you bob! I'm going to order up some of that clear...I've been curious to try it anyway. For what its worth I've been able to get around the alclad rubbing off by applying it to very very recently sprayed dupli-color clear ... it seems to bite in and holds up pretty decent for handling. I have an idea for detailing the grille on my current build with the pens, but i don't want the effect to wipe of on the way to the first show. I'm excited for them to arrive so I can give them a shot, and experiment.
  2. anyone have any success recreating these in scale? I was thinking thread.. but too fuzzy and not clean enough... then I thought about painting some of the small braided material? (protech/rb motion) Im going to play around with it... but curious if anyone has has success with this in the past.
  3. Thanks guys!!! Im really happy with the trunk! I tried to get the book-matching correct on the sides, but its not 100%... since you cant see them at the same time, I didn't go crazy with it and conserved decal material.
  4. Thanks guys! more updates.. Base-coat on the Fenders...last bit of this burgundy sprayed! Then onto the trunk, decal-ed and foiled.... ready for clear... The more I use these decals the more I like them! I managed to get the BMF done on the main body and the hood last night (Ive always been one of those bmf before clear guys)... chassis is tonight...
  5. you guys that have these.. how un-durable are they? Like if you did some trim and then wrapped the car in a micro towel to transport it, will it rub off? does the surface its applied to matter? Matte or Gloss base surface make any difference?
  6. Made some more progress... I added some trim to the fenderpods, I figure in real life these would be 2 pieces for tire service. then the final prime! Hopefully a light sanding and basecoat tomorrow night! while I was working on the fenders.. I was able to get the trunk ready for the woodgrain decals

  8. Thanks guys!! Its a pint of valspar basecoat I had mixed up... just picked a color off of the universal color charts and had him make me a pint pre-reduced... which is still way way to much.. I have enough to paint many many things this color... haha.. Im lucky to have a local commercial paint shop that I work pretty closely with for 1:1 scale projects, he lets me come in and play with the charts and is willing to mix me small quantities.
  9. Welcome Gage! This is an awesome project... I love a flared cuda.. I built a similar cuda awhile back and had to do exactly what you are saying to get it low enough for my liking.. Which is a shame because your flares look great! Personally I would add a bit more "bubble" to the rears, but the fronts are dead on. here is a link to the project log on my cuda, its a bit different but there might be something in there that is a help. Also regarding the chassis... how about one of those 1;24 nascar chassis's ? those can be had cheap and have pretty good detail. Check out this duster build by my buddy using a nascar chassis as a base point. Great work on one of my favorite types of cars! hope that helps a little!
  10. thank you guys!!! I have a quick weekend up date on this... making progress. Filling and sanding these fender pods... getting them worked out. double checking the hood fit before I spray some base coat. And base coat sprayed!
  11. Thank you tom! oh yes i'm adding lots of chrome to that dash, including those side spears.. but im gonna wait till after clear.. i just dont trust those decals and bmf without some protection. Thanks bob! it was a pain and i'm glad its over.. haha
  12. and ready for clear and foil... i added some burl inlay-ed strips to the floorpan to tie it into the dash, and to hide seams.
  13. Thank you all for the find comments and encouragement! I truly appreciate it. Tom, they are really really really transparent... He recommends adding shading and weathering before and after application, and I can see how that could work well. I ended up lightening up my base color quite a bit, to the point it was almost a very light beige. The cool part is you can probably hit a bazillion of wood looks with one decal sheet. I actually added a little pearl to my base color to try and get the "shimmer" of real wood... it worked sorta.. The "low tack" masking tape he provides for pattern making didn't seem to work well. It worked fine for the pattern making part, but pulled the decals right off the dry backer when trying to remove it. This was after sticking it to my pants and shirt to lessen the adhesion. Sometimes the dry decals detach from the backer when cutting thin strips. Once soaked (for literally 1 second) and applied to your surface they are incredibly thin, but don't seem to tear easily. Then came trying to use micro-sol and micro-set which these decals don't respond very well to. I ended up using the microsol and then adding some low heat (my just work-lamp) to get them to conform to curves. That may have had something to do with my cold workshop temperature. but I'm not sure... This all makes them difficult to use... once I got use to the quirks it got easier to deal with, but still quite a challenge.. I would rate them about three times as hard to apply as the Scale Motorsports carbon decals I used all over my Cuda. After all that being said... the results are pretty amazing. New lighter base. Here you can see how transparent the decals are... Floorpan start Here you can see some wrinkles caused by the microsol.. these were smooth to the touch but in the ink somehow? only going to see this much of it... so i decided to push on.
  14. Thank you guys!!! I have been sanding, priming and filling... the main body, hood and chassis are ready for paint... the fender pods are going to take the most work... but ill get them. .. nothing really to show yet. I did try the woodgrain decals last night... and they are amazingly thin and delicate.... the kit I bought for the airplane are very transparent.. more of like a tint. Now that i know this i am going to lighten up the base color, to get the "light burl maple" look i want. More work, but also more control... so its all good Here is a shot of my test piece... you can see where it is hanging off the left side how transparent they are.
  15. man.... somebody needs to build that entire rig... awesome photo!
  16. I use this one... usually there is a coupon to get it for around 10-12.00... I love it, and I've sprayed lacquer, urethane basecoat, nail polish and urethane clear out of it with no seal issues. The spray pattern is smaller than a rattle can, and larger than a airbrush.. great for overall color and clear... http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/paint/adjustable-detail-spray-gun-92126.html The only issue I've ever had with one- make sure you tighten all the connections on the gun before you use it the first time I poured paint into my brand new backup gun, and it just ran out all over my hand... nothing was wrong, just the seals around the needle were loose.
  17. Thanks james and scott! Made some more progress last night... Re-Shaped and cleaned up some monogram 37 ford sedan taillights... added a brass trim ring, Ill turn some acrylic bullet lenses later. mounted to the insides of the fenders. Everything is primed... well all the major things... for the most part everything looks pretty good too... some funky body work to tackle, but not as bad as i was thinking.. Got some color onto the dash and chassis pan... these will get those woodgrain decals... but i wanted a nice undertone in case they were slightly transparent.
  18. wow.. that is some great work! Nice clean work and one of my favorite cars! Can't wait to see the BMF.. that is going to pop quite nice
  19. oh man.... another John Teresi Clone build... I love these... It has to be a challenge recreating these as close to original as possible. Great work!
  20. That looks great! Those RB motion rods ends are amazing... thanks for showing me them, and spending more of my money.. haha Seriously tho... they make all of this look so much more realistic.
  21. Very Very nice work!!
  22. Thank you guys! I'm really enjoying this one! Hahaha.. No ruffled feathers.... Andy was just being funny because he made his into a roadster pickup for the same contest. The body "mostly" stock thing was a personal challenge to myself... but let it be known I am just a giant chicken when it comes to line scribing.. haha Heres a quick weekend update: Steering linkage: Custom airbox under the dash: Aint no party like a primer party: Milliput sculpted shift boot that i dropped and will need to remake... oops. Paint on some of the interior bits, still need some shading or something to add more definition, I'm going to work on that. (maroon in the bottle is body color):
  23. yup they are pretty awesome... check this out: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/120250-124-125-scale-woodlite-headlights/ Sorry for the shameless self promotion...
  24. Ha! Figures as soon as I 3d modeled and uploaded woodlites to my shapeways store this would be re-released.. oh well... hopefully mine are nicer...
  25. hahaha... i'm petrified.. I plan builds specifically around not doing any line scribing...
