Anyone ordered from them lately? I've ordered in the past and know that it takes a while before they get around to shipping, but at least I'd get a response if I emailed. This last time ordered on 4/20, emailed on 5/6 to ask when they would ship, and no reply so far. I just emailed again to cancel the order and ask for a refund. Time will tell...

Pre-building
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good stuff here....thanks much, everyone. I'm going to try the tacky glue. -
Beautiful work! Fond memories...my parents had one of those, in metallic grey, and it became mine for a while. This was during the gas crisis of the '70's...yow. ?

This is something I've been wanting to look into for a while, and the last kit I tried brought the need home. What do you do to "pre-build" a kit to make sure things fit, and to fix things if they don't fit, before painting and assembling? I've seen reference to dry fitting, and also to using something like white glue for a temporary assembly. Bestow upon my your collective wisdom. ?

AMT T-Birds
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes, the interior being too wide at the dash was exactly the problem. It didn't occur to me to look here for build threads...another lesson learned. I appreciate the offer of the taillights. I really butchered the interior trying to get it to fit, so I'll probably buy another kit rather than trying to save this one. Did a Google search for AMT T-Birds and didn't find any other bullit bird kits, so I guess I'm stuck with this one. At least I now know what the problems will be. -
Do either of the kits come with dash gauge decals?

AMT T-Birds
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks. The instructions are exactly the same. Things went OK until it came to the final assembly of the chassis/interior with the body. It was very difficult and the end result was not good. I also managed to lose one of the tail light lenses to the Evil Part Gobbling Floor Monster, but I guess I can't blame that on the kit. I've given up on it for now and am debating whether or not to buy another one and have another go at it. It's frustrating because that's probably my favorite of the T-Birds and this seems to be the only kit ever made of it. -
Can someone tell me if there's any difference between these two versions aside from the packaging? I've been building the bottom one and it's not been a happy experience.

Never seen a real one painted like that, which is a shame because it looks awesome. Nice job!
-
This might be your best one yet. Nice work! You're going to make me spend money again. Is there a way to tell the difference between the US and European versions when buying?

Very nice work, nice detailing. I'll have to add that one to my very long list of kits to buy. ?

Decal printing fail
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Now we're talkin'. Works fine with the ink jet paper. Looks pretty much like it does on the screen. Now that I know it works I can try and find better images. ? -
I built one of those a while back and it was not easy. You did a great job on a difficult kit.

Decal printing fail

I was hoping for sympathy rather than reality, but thanks anyway. ? -
Is that a '64 Dodge? Who makes the kit?

Decal printing fail
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The words "for laser printer" on the label should have tipped me off. Sigh. The other decal paper I ordered says it's for ink jet printers, so that should work. Lesson learned. Again. I'm 70 years old...when can I stop learning these #@$!$^@!! lessons? ? -
I decided to try printing my own decals after not having done it for quite a while. The decal paper my local hobby store had is from Stevens International. The actual width of this T-bird logo I printed on my Epson XP-4100 is about 1/2 inch. The top image shows the decal immediately after printing, the bottom image shows the same decal after having sat a few minutes. As you can see there is significant degradation. I'm happy with the decal as it first prints, but it becomes useless. I've emailed this same pic to the manufacturer, but I thought I'd post it here too because the folks here are so knowledgeable and may give me a better answer. What causes this and how do I prevent it. Is the paper just no good? I've ordered a different brand of paper on Amazon and it should get here tomorrow. I don't recall having problems like this when I've previously printed my own decals.

I figured it was pretty ancient...the body, chassis and tub are held together with four metal screws. Thanks all for the comments. ?

The best thing I can say about this kit is the car it models. The designers at Chrysler really nailed it with this one...I love it. The kit has no engine and no chassis and interior detail to speak of, but they did a decent job on the body. Paint is Tamiya Pearl Green. Enjoy, and thanks for looking. ?

Wow, you did a great job on that. Beautiful! Can you tell us how you achieved that finish?
-
Thanks all! Forgot to mention the paint colors...Skyline and Dove Gray by FolkArt. Both sprayed and covered well when thinned out.
-
Thanks all for the comments. Building this one was good experience,,,just not one I'd care to repeat. ?
-
Thanks. It is one piece, except of course for the two red lenses.

Far out! Nicely done. ?

Paper gauges?
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's them. Thanks. ?
