This is the second of this kit that I've finished. When I posted the first one, someone commented that this kit is a "dumpster fire". I can't disagree. Although to be fair it's probably typical of kits made in the '50's. Three piece body, three piece tub, two-part plastic tires, generally poor parts fit, and the body has more dimples than a Shirley Temple movie. And pretty much everything that can go wrong did with this build. This version of the kit was the same as the first one, but the decal sheet was missing or never included. Heres a link to the first one I did... http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/178340-revell-1957-cadillac-eldorado-brougham/ I think I actually like the first one better, maybe because of the nice decals. In any case, I think I'll just concede defeat and not build any more of these. ?

Great work, perfect color. ?

Got a bit of ca glue a clear coated and polished body. Is there a way to get it off, or is it a lost cause?

And another reason to love fine point pens...used one for the fake wood on this interior. Looks good! -
Great work inside and out.

Beautiful build. Who's kit is that?

This stuff seems to have dried well...couldn't smear it with my finger. -
Not a problem...I've had to deal with worse. ?

Need Help with Brush Painting

For what it's worth, I bought one of these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08RHWN398/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It works very well for containing overspray, but not as well for the odor. Running an exhaust fan in the window for a few minutes takes care of the smell. It's well worth it to be able to paint indoors any time. -
my third model kit ever, what do you think?

You're well on your way. I always tell myself that whatever I'm working on at the moment is "just practice" for the next one. -
Beautiful build! Great colors, very good detailing. Who makes the kit, and is it a good one to work with?

Need Help with Brush Painting
Sidney Schwartz replied to Horrorshow's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My understanding is that primer is just to help the paint adhere. If that's the case, I don't see much point in putting on more than one coat. My rule of thumb is one coat of primer, just enough paint to get good even coverage, and three coats of clear, then sand and polish the clear. Gives me good results. -

I used a Craftsmart Multi-Surface Premium Oil-based Paint Pen. Flows really nicely. Probably got it at the local Michaels, but I'm sure you can find it online. I also like the Gelly Roll brand of fine points. These pens come in just about any color and are very handy for all sorts of detail work. ? -
Saw this on a video, tried it, and love it. Bought one of these circle templates on Amazon... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077RTHQ8K?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Placed it on the tire and ran a fine point paint pen around the edge. Result was perfect and took about 30 seconds. Can't beat it with a stick!

Wow, you made a Lindberg kit look great. Awesome work!

Yes, I'm very happy with the color. This is the first time I've done a flat body paint and it looks much nicer than I expected. Also yes on the tweezers, especially if you break down and buy a decent pair that actually works. ? Thanks all for the comments.

I'm pretty happy with this one. Lots of the usual disasters and mistakes during building, but I persisted and it's a good build, for me. It's encouraging that my skills seem to be improving...for a while there I thought they never would. I'm really impressed with this kit...I wish they were all this well designed and made. I'd definitely buy another. After swearing off BMF I decided to give it another go, and I seem to be getting the knack. For this kit I went with aluminum foil and Micro metal foil adhesive. I find the usual pre-glued BMF a bit frustrating because it also sticks to everything I don't want it to and it can difficult to removed the trimmed bits. I found the aluminum foil easier to work with, but I'm not very happy with the way it looks compared with BMF. It doesn't burnish up nearly as smoothly and might actually be too bright. I'll probably go back to BMF. This build is almost box stock. I added a distributor and plug wires. Body paint is mint green matte craft paint coated with flat clear. Thanks for looking.

What's the best way to remove a decal? It was treated with Micro-Sol when I put it on.

I'd like to find a chrome foil as thin as BMF but without the adhesive already on it. Does anyone know of such a thing? -

Thanks...I'll look for the video. -
Anyone ever try this stuff for chrome? Is it thin enough? Does it look like chrome or aluminum? https://ksmetals.com/products/alfoil

Good scribing tool?
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Lots of creative people here. ? I've seen a few on Amazon that look like they might work better for me. -
I bought the Tamiya scribing tool and don't care for it at all. It's a "chisel" type and I found it very difficult to get a decent line with it. A while back I had a scriber with a round tip and would like to get another like it. Can someone recommend one that they've used and like? Thanks.

Why the orange peel disaster?
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
OK, lesson learned. I'll be repainting using acrylic matte craft paint and Krylon acrylic flat clear.
