What's the best chrome?
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Lately I've been using a Molotow pen and/or Krylon chrome spray and/or ultra fine tip markers. All look OK, and all are easy to damage once they've been applied. That's why I'm also asking about what to use to protect those areas. BMF has always been difficult for my old fingers and eyeballs, but I may give it another go because it does looks best, IMO, if I manage not to mess it up. The gravity colors is appealing because they also sell their own protector and gloss coat. I suppose Alclad does that as well. Lots of choices. I feel my wallet beginning to itch... -
Atlantis kits?
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
OK...thanks for the info. Think I'll pass. -
I'd never heard of Atlantis kits until just now. I'd appreciate any comments on quality before spending my quatloos on one.

What's the best chrome?

Anyone ever try this stuff? Or any of the Gravity-colors paints? https://gravity-colors.com/106-18-gc-227-mclaren-chrome-effect/ -
Any reason not to use something like this stuff for body painting? https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-248951-Automotive-Preventive-12-Ounce/dp/B003CT4AGQ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2OTMHN9XLYK88&keywords=Rust-Oleum+Auto+Grabber+Green+Engine+Enamel+Spray&qid=1674587179&sprefix=rust-oleum+auto+grabber+green+engine+enamel+spray%2Caps%2C214&sr=8-1

What do you think works best for chrome trim? BMF or one of the chrome paints? Do you hand paint or spray? Do you use some kind of clear to protect your chrome?

Thanks. I was impressed with this kit and will be looking for another one.

Like all my efforts, a modest one. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out...some of my skills seem to be improving. This style Pontiac has been one of my all-time favorites since it was introduced. The kit is a simple one, but well done. Molded in detail is very good, and so is the parts fit. Didn't really need to fiddle with it. Thanks for looking.

Micro Mask

Bluetack didn't work. Back to the tape. -

I have some bluetack so I may as well give it a go. Can't be any worse. -

This end sections of this seat... To match this... Because the surface is deeply indented there, using tape is very difficult. That's why I'm trying the liquid mask. -

I use scalpel blades, and this was a brand new one. -
Micro Mask
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The search continues. The Micro Mask was easy to trim with a blade, but almost impossible to remove. The Abteilung 502 liquid mask removes very easily but is too soft to trim...the blade just catches in it and peels it off instead of cutting it. I guess I'll try applying the Abteilung 502 precisely enough so that it doesn't have to be trimmed, but that seems like defeating the whole purpose of using it. Any other suggestions? Anybody have any luck using rubber cement? -

Microscale Micro Mask is the one I'm having problems with. Anyone tried Vallejo's liquid mask? -

Micro Mask
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes. Is that good thing or a bad thing? -
Apparently I'm two stoopid to figure out how to use Micro Mask. I brush it on and let it dry thoroughly and trim it with a sharp blade. The problem is I can't get it off the areas I want to paint. It sticks like anything rather than lifting off. What's the trick?

Has anyone tried this in their 70's?
Sidney Schwartz replied to landman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Really liking these. Very comfortable, nice bright LED lights, and you can choose from four magnifications. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081TV2GNH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 To bad Amazon doesn't sell replacement brains. -

Dashboards
Sidney Schwartz replied to Sidney Schwartz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've done similar in the past...printing off gauges, floor mats, etc. It's a bit of paint in the patoot, so I'll probably stick with gauge decals, if they'll ever get here. I do use The Google quite a bit to get images of interiors, exteriors and engines. -

Another good idea. I'm pretty sure I ordered some gauge decals that come with photo etched rings. Maybe they'll even show up in my mailbox someday. ? -
