  1. You lost me on this. I'm using the balsa with thinner, not polish, to remove the paint from the scripts.
  2. I was in Auto Zone today (they give veterans a 10% discount), and noticed that DupliColor offers primer in clear. For what would you use a clear primer?
  3. The balsa is soft enough to take away a little bit more on the edges (or you can make an indentation to assist).
  4. I use a piece of balsa that has been soaked in thinner...the balsa is more porous and softer, reducing the risk of scratching the foil.
  5. Silly Putty would probably work too...
  6. I did that once. I just took off, and returned when I ran out of money; almost made it to the end of my driveway!
  7. Cool story! My dad had an Indian Scout right after WWII but he never did anything like that.
  8. Can that be used as a wet sander (without ruining it, of course)?
  9. You can also used decals for the wood grain appearance http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/101995-woodification-making-it-a-woodie/
  10. I have two gravity fed airbrushes (where the paint cup feeds from the top) and another siphon airbrush (that feeds from the bottom) and I've never had the problem you describe. I'm wondering if you're not cleaning yours after using them (no criticism intended) and if investing money in some off-the-wall, with no name other than Lifetime Guarantee, side feed is worth it. Once again, I'm not being critical, just analytical.
  11. The clear was a Rustoleum acrylic (water based?) sprayed over an oil-based paint? The old adage about "Oil and water don't mix" might be rearing it's ugly head here.
  12. Very nice work, especially the decal that runs from slightly behind the front door almost to the front edge of the front fender. That had to be a pain to lay down and get straight! Kudos!
  13. Yes, that was Venice. Basically, there were no tables (for competition) that were full, even the military. The most densely-populated tables I saw were AirCraft/Propeller and Aircraft/Jet; those two categories occupied two full tables. I don't believe there were any other shows that weekend.
  14. I went to the Wings Wheels & Keels (WW&K) contest yesterday; after speaking with quite a few folks, it appears participation in these events seems to be dropping off. At the WW&K show, there were eight categories for automotive; the category with the highest number of entries had seven entries. All told, there were on forty entries (total) in the Automotive/Motorcycles section...quite a drop from last year, where there were more than twenty entries in Factory Stock alone. Some of the people I spoke with said they had attended a similar event the prior weekend and were disappointed...very few models and only four vendors. Are you folks seeing the same thing?
  15. I've used braided fishing line leader...available in various sizes, depending on the test-weight.
  16. You posted the page for the Andy Griffith show, which addresses this thread; for a more expansive search, the home page for that site is http://www.imcdb.org/ (or go to the link in slusher's post and select home page near the upper left of the page) Once on the home page, enter the name of the movie or TV show and you'll see the vehicles used in that movie/show. Very comprehensive.
  17. I'm usually matching the color of the 1:1 that I formerly owned. I'd be curious to see what color wins the most trophies in contests.
  18. Nicely done! My dad had a '66 convertible in the same color; his was a 327, though.
  19. Shouldn't there be some kind of question?
  20. This brings back memories...the first car I ever drove equipped with power brakes was a '58 Bonneville hardtop...darned near threw my dad through the windshield the first time I hit the brakes!
  21. You're right, Art. And looking at it from a slightly different slant...let's say you have 100 quality hours invested in a model and it looks super; what's that worth from a minimum wage perspective, even though the workmanship merits a much higher hourly rate?
  22. The rarity of the kit also has something to do with the price, as does the original cost of a kit. Harry's Pocher built-ups could probably hit that price range.
  23. I'm not aware off any specific name for them.
  24. I use the free version of Avast and I've never seen a pop-up either.
