    Good tip! I've noticed that the flat spot also corresponds to a slight bulge in the tire...any thoughts on this?

    Instead of guitar strings, how about braided wire fishing leaders? They come in many diameters and are easier to bend than guitar strings.

    There have been a lot of good answers/examples but the question posed to the OP has no response. I think waiting for that response might be a good idea, rather than coming up with solutions for an undefined problem.

    Maybe I've led a sheltered life, but I've not seen high quality brushes with plastic ferrules. If you're thinking the purple pond might be an option, look at your brushes first. If they have a metal ferrule, the purple pond will eat that away and the bristles will fall out...ask me how I know.

    Same here. It would seem to me that a wax is used to increase luster, not clean.

    Another way to cut the aluminum is toe-nail clippers; they are available with convex, flat, and concave cutting edges.

    Get one, cut off the bristles, and attach wet/dry sandpaper to it.
