Mayflower Moving Van Trailer
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys!! Let me say first of all that there is still some warpage. I've never had a lot of luck with hot water, but have had decent success with heat. However this one was terrible. I decided the best thing to do was to make this one curbside. I took and glued bracing on the inside and clamped it until it was dry. I used styrene rectangle stock for the bracing. It took several sections to be strong enough to hold it. Once the body started coming together I glued a section at a time to get it as square as possible. I glued the doors shut too after straightening them the best I could by hand, the body sides held the rest. It is by far not perfect. Warren I think he let the air filter go too long. Thanks again everyone!! -

Thanks Jim!! Thanks Ben! Thanks Kerry!! Thanks Sam! -
I bought this kit at a good price as a sealed kit, but it had been resealed. I knew the box looked odd in that it was bulging. To make long story short, the parts had been just crammed in the box and everything was VERY warped. The floor, the sides, the doors, and the top were all warped badly. I've never seen anything like it. Here's the finished product. It turned out okay.

Thanks for the kind words! The old M.T.F.A. casting required a ton of grinding on the inside. The A.I.T.M. castings were a definite improvement. The Brockway grill isn't perfect, but it makes a pretty nice model. Thanks again. Thanks so much! Thanks Pat!! -
Very creative build! Your body creation looks awesome. I like the color! Top notch work!! Not to take away from your excellent build, those are 3406 or 3406A engines, the 3406E looks quite a bit different and wasn't available until 1993.

Thanks Kerry, but there's plenty. Thanks so much! Thanks Sam, but it is a little harder to bend. Thanks Ken! Thanks Tom! I would have liked to have done some more detail, but I decided it was time to be done with this one. I start out with big ambitions but get tired along the way. Thanks Tom! Thanks Casey! Thanks Larry! I'm afraid to try to start it because I don't want it to leak oil on that shiny alpine green paint. Thanks Ken! Thanks so much! -

Looking good! -
This one began with a cab from A.I.T.M., the tanks came from Dave as well. The engine is a 6-71 Detroit from Gary Wallace. The transmission is a 5 speed. The tires are from KJ at Double Take. The frame, wheels, front axle, and front springs are from the R-Model. (I know that Brockway didn't use Mack front axles, but it is what I had.) Rear suspension is the walking beam from the AMT Ford LN8000 tractor. The drive axles are from an IH 4200. Glad Hands are from Shapeways. There are numerous parts from the parts box. The decals are from an old Nascar kit a just a little smaller than the ones on the 1:1.
