Wow....................and YES, it does look like the real 1:1 truck. Off the charts!!!!! -
41' Chevy Pick-up
redneckrigger replied to DeeCee's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is beautiful work.................LOVE the paint! I wish my real one that has been languishing in my garage for the last 25 years looked half as good! -
Thanks, Mike. The lettering is actually from a company called Kit Kraft. Here is the link: Don't remember seeing a brand name..........https://kitkraft.com/products/3-16-plastic-letters They are easy to use and come in several different sizes................perfect for the cast name plates these old machines commonly had. Actually, the steering was the easiest part of this whole build so far!

Is the magazine still being published?
redneckrigger replied to DanR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
VERY well stated, Tom. Truer words have never been spoken. I wish Gregg well.................I have had 8 back surgeries as well, and I do NOT do a one man show on a magazine. I am happy for whatever comes our way as a result of his efforts , and I can only hope that those who find fault do not ever have to endure the pain from a chronic problem such as Gregg is.....................to wish that upon them would be inhuman. Yes, THAT would be a great idea, and would go a long way to supporting the efforts to publish what IS the best magazine available! Great idea! Bingo! -
Rainy day at the work bench...... wired the engine, made the access doors with the ventilation screens and the gear cover door, installed the steering cylinder which works, made the water tank, made the transmission and right angle drive box, made the nameplate for both ends, installed the foot openings to climb aboard, installed the front top skin, and only glued my fingers together twice! Now it's starting to look like something. Still have tons of details to do as well as the operators platform but it's getting there!

After searching for a while trying to find details of the gear drive system for these old girls, I finally found a manual that showed what I needed. So, after a trip to the LHS and finding some appropriate gears that are from RC trucks, this is what resulted. I put a large drive gear on the compression drum. Then made up a reduction gear with a spur that drives the drum. Then the primary drive spur gear was added. It took a bit of measure twice/ cut once to get it all to fit and actually work, but it came out well and follows the prototype nicely. I made a gear cover that will attach to the hinged door that is in process. The engine and drive transmission will now be finished and installed along with the brakes and all of the control linkages. The steering drum yoke was finished up as well by making the pivot and tilt yoke as can be seen. I made a working hydraulic cylinder for the steering that will be installed next. Hydraulic, gas, and water tanks will be next along with all of the access doors and operators platform. The lowboy to haul the roller around has had hinged ramps added and the pony winch is also nearing completion, just needing the wiring for it and paint. One step at a time!

Revell '66 Surburban shown at NNL-East!
redneckrigger replied to Art Anderson's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Too bad they didn't make the hood in one piece like AMT did with their original version of the 66......................but STILL nice to see some new molds! -
Hobby Shops, then and now
redneckrigger replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, Hobby World is my go-to shop as well. He is less than a mile from my gun shop, so I can get there quickly, and he always has what I am looking for, and then some. When I can get to the other end of Massachusetts, I visit The Spare Time Shop in Marlboro, ALSO a great shop to get to. The LHS may be a dying breed, but this old fart will not stop patronizing them, until I stop.........................! -
M1008 CUCV Complete
redneckrigger replied to cjanderson's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
We reworked several of these for fire department duty, and I personally had several that I scrapped for the various heavy duty parts they had. You got this one perfect....................looks absolutely great! -
I have since, thankfully, gotten a few original MPC ones, as well as the Revell one. That Monogram POS really butchered it. It looked pregnant...............with the spawn of the devil!

Worst kit that I remember is the first 1969 Camaro that Monogram came out with. I can remember awaiting that kit with high hopes, as the original MPC '69 Camaros were hard to find. When I saw it, I was tempted to use it for target practice. It had the worst rendition of the beautiful '69 lines that I have ever seen. It almost looked like a caricature. Horrendous. If I remember correctly, I actually used it to start a campfire, still unbuilt in it's box, and I don't think it even burned very well.

Well being a bit of a hoarder, I would never toss out the magazines. I have every Scale Auto Enthusiast magazine, except issue #2 and a few of the Contest Annual issues, and every Car Modeler. I would love to have a set of Model Cars. I use them for reference, inspiration, and simply to enjoy reading. They do sell on eBay rather well, as I have sold many there, when I was thinning my multiple issues. Your Dad was a VERY special guy! -
MAD Chevy/ GMC long beds
redneckrigger replied to Ben's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Fantastic products from MAD, and they are dimensionally perfect, and assemble just like kit styrene parts. AWESOME! -
Yeah, we took the tunnel, at 291 KPH.............about 185 MPH, (their top speed is 331 KPH),.....................smoother than any wheeled vehicle I have EVER ridden in. I didn't drive in Paris, but we took another train to Caen, and rented a car there to drive around Normandy. It was a trip of a lifetime! We climbed to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and watched the traffic for a bit. There are 12 separate roads that converge at the big roundabout around the Arc. One of our tour guides told us they tried to install traffic controls many times to manage the traffic but eventually gave up. It is an absolute hoot to watch 12 different fully overloaded roads spill their traffic into the same rotary with zero traffic controls at the same time. It is amazing, everyone trying to occupy the same spot at the same time!
