How to get 6 colors from one bottle
redneckrigger replied to Kit Basher's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Very interesting. With any translucency at all in a color, this type of offset to the color is to be expected. Thanks for sharing! -

Modelhaus Not taking New Orders Once Again
redneckrigger replied to 59-Desoto's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I met Don and Carol back in the mid 80's in Toledo. Have bought a bunch of stuff from them and it is ALL of the BEST quality. Sad to hear they are closing, sad for me, and those in the hobby.......purely selfish for sure! But, I understand completely, and wish them all the best. They have given us SO much over these past years! -
Very nice looking build. Love the color!

IHC Transtar CO-4090A WIP

I am doing the details on the chassis now, such as the airbags, lights, and a few other tidbits. Kind of wish, while trying to paint the assembled in place airbags, that I had chosen black for the chassis! But I am not sure I am going to weather it too much. Am kind of going for the used truck just out of the paint shop look, I think. Besides my weathering skills are not only rusty, they are non existant. I will try to weather the V12 a bit as well as under the cab a bit, but will probably be rather restrained overall. Just painted the resin tires tonite and did the wheels in Case Power White. The cab has been given a first color of the same Power White. I am waiting to let it dry for a bit before I mask it for the second color. The second color is also going to be Torch Red in a yet to be determined pattern. Going to practice my two tone masking and painting on a test mule first! Did all of the wiring, air lines, and hydraulic piping for the winch and sprayed them all red at the same time as the chassis, exactly like we used to do when we gave a truck a five gallon overhaul. This truck likely does not have a 1:1 counterpart, but it shifts my gears! Definitely starting to see light at the end of the tunnel! Cheers, Tom -
Regardless of whether a political statement was intended or not in "13 Hours", I give my extreme thanks to those who died in that very REAL event, and also to all who have gone in, and ARE in harm's way to preserve our freedoms, those very same freedoms that allow us all to have differing opinions. A movie, or an ulterior motive for such should NEVER demean the sacrifices that have and are being made daily.

Words/Phrases You're Sick Of Hearing?
redneckrigger replied to Snake45's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
The mixing of the use of the words "cavalry" and "calvary"..............."I axed him", Oh Yeah, did he bleed to death?.............the pronunciation of ambulance as AMbeeooLANCE....and INsurance...............twerk, selfie, hashtag...........someone who begins every statement with "basically".............redonculous............someone saying "I'm DOWN with it", when I'm down with something it's usually a cold..............ANY use of gansta speak............and lastly, for now, the use of either "like" or "you know" before every seven words or so in a sentence. Am I showing my "old fartedness yet????? -
Bill, just checked out the links you posted. Absolutely wonderful work! I will be trying this method with a couple of projects that have been holding down one end of my bench for a few years, waiting for a solution I had no idea was about to be put forth. THANK YOU!

I have used the dryer sheets with epoxy where I need the somewhat slower time, (less than instant), that it offers. When I want something strong and fast, I use .010 to .020 plastic sheet, (thickness determined by how flexible I have to bend it to fit the joint), get the joint set, spray it with ZIP Kicker, apply the CA cement to the reinforcement piece, and quickly and CAREFULLY put the reinforcement piece over the area to be strengthened. It is VERY quick, and so far has produced bullet proof joints. I have had occasion to take one apart once or twice, and they are stronger than the surrounding plastic by far.

When a hobby goes too far ?
redneckrigger replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, we all need a place to "get away", and often it is the garage. It used to be with me, for sure. I had several cars that I was always working on, a GTO, Mustang, etc. My hobby got me being asked to work on other people's cars, which became a business, and after a couple years, 8 employees. My hobby quickly became work, and no fun. Got old, sore, started to have mechanical problems myself, so I closed the shop, sold all but one of my cars, and moved away...............and never looked back. I have rediscovered the joy of model building, and while I still have all of my mechanics and body tools, lift, and other assorted mechanical stuff, I enjoy FAR more spending time in my basement at my bench building small ones now! -
New Brush Truck Started
redneckrigger replied to Chariots of Fire's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Superb! Simply superb. The stance is perfect! Looks like a brass version of the M52 we took totally apart and put back together with a 2800 gallon tank on her back. Ours had Mack power. It spent a couple months in my shop where we added square dump valves, pump storage, side dumps, remotes, and it was the best truck we had. Until a subsequent chief 20 years later decided that our rural department, (with only waterholes for water supply), didn't need tankers any more. Brilliant move..........!!! Keep the pics coming! -
IHC Transtar CO-4090A WIP
redneckrigger replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks guys! Actually, I painted it twice. The first time the gloss was WAY too shiny, and didn't look "scale". So, I mixed up another batch with just a BIT of flattening agent in it. Came out like I wanted. Now have to detail paint it, the airbags etc. and a few other things, and continue on........................! -

redneckrigger replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ha! Probably should! Actually, it took me about the last three weeks to plumb and wire the entire thing, and you are very right, the paint, at least to me, seems like a huge step! Still have tons to do, and of course, it never REALLY is done after all. Monday is a day off, so back to the bench! -

redneckrigger replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Finally got some paint on the 4090. Did the frame in GM Torch Red and the first color on the cab in Case Power White. Now I have to wait a bit for the cab to cure before I mask it off for the two tone scheme I am formulating in my mind. My left arm is getting better, still has a bit of a tremor but that is OK. The paint, so far went well, as it is the first time I've used my new double action Paasche V brush, after retiring my old Paasche H single action one. Now it's on to detail painting the chassis and adding lights etc., and then interior, and then, and then, and then.............!!! One step at a time! -
Cabs under construction
redneckrigger replied to Repstock's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Those cabs are extremely well done! Your attention to detail is really fantastic. They are all super, but the W and the Crackerbox are fighting for being my favorites. Have them cast and the hobby will beat a path to your door! -
Nice build! Can you share construction details? WOW!
