  1. Nice looking build..............and very real looking!
  2. Yeah, the ROPS is all wrong, am modifying that. And yeah, some other things look too big etc., but it will serve the purpose. Didn't want to get into another involved rebuild, so it was a Q&D..............Quick & Dirty. I SHOULD have sectioned the top of the cab to extend it higher to enlarge it, but I chose the lazy way by simply extending the bottom of the cab/tank unit. Looks just a bit out but it'll work. I'll call it a 50 footer.................looks like the real D6T from 50 feet away!
  3. Nice KW!!!!!! Good work!
  4. Well, after spending a year plus on the CO4090A, I had to do an easy one, so I spent a couple days on the D6 shown elsewhere in this forum. So, now it's on to a little more involved one. This is an original MPC DM600 that I started almost 30 years ago. I used the Montone body from the Autocar kit, and figured on using the Tip Turbine engine from a Cruiseliner. I made my own pusher axle but am now going to use an aftermarket one. I also had narrowed the track between the rears. The interior is the steel dash one that I painted tan. The rebuild will see it painted 804 Mack Green and the frame will be red. I probably won't get carried away like I did with the IHC but time will tell!
  5. Years ago I found this New Bright remote control bulldozer at a tag sale for 25 cents. New Bright did a bunch of large scale RC toys, a Cat 245, 992, 777, D9L, but this one is a small scale D9, which measures about 7 inches long without the ripper. I scaled it out, and it pretty closely resembles a 1/25th scale Cat D6T. So, even though it isn't technically a kit, and I really didn't go for perfect prototypical details, here is a quick rebuild of this toy to a passable lowboy load. I painted the tracks steel, raised the cab about 1/2", plugged a few holes where the RC mechanisms were, made some engine covers to hide the low detail engine, (didn't feel like replicating that), added some upper track idlers, and painted it Cat Yellow. I am not totally fond of the ROPS that came with it, so am doing that over as shown. Then I will decal it an call it done. Not a high detail build, and not perfect to the 1:1, but, as a quick build, and one that passes muster for ME, it works!
  6. I STILL have my Kenner sets....................LOTS of them. Am saving them for my grandson who LOVES building things.
  7. My first automotive toys were Matchbox cars.........................had hundreds of them, all disappeared somewhere along the way. Also got into collecting Roco & Roskopf Minitanks at an early age, back in the early '60s. Those somehow stayed with me until just last year when I finally had to admit they were just too small for me to see! They are 1/87th scale, shown here is just one of about 50 boxes of them. So, I sold off all 2500 of them! Got a pretty penny for them, and promptly bought more 1/25th truck kits!
  8. Superb model of a superb car! The '61 Bubbletop is one of my favorites1 BTW, it was a pleasure meeting Larry at the NNL a few weeks back. You two have SKILLS!!!!!
  9. VERY nice build, that even from so many years go, still stands the test of time. AND, one of my favorite subjects! NICE!!!
  10. On first look, I asked myself "WHY?"...................but then as soon as I looked at it again, I said "Why NOT!!!!". That has to be one of the most, if not THE most imaginative truck build I can remember seeing. The whole concept screams ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE! Add to the fact that I have had a soft spot for cabovers and those cute/ugly Dodge trucks for my whole life. One of my first sets of wheels was a '68 Dodge van used for my parent's business and I put LOTS of miles on her. I can only wish to have 1% of your imagination and skill! Truly awesome! Now for a chopped Dodge C-1000 hauler with aero effects.....in orange, of course.........!
  11. Stunning detail and quality work.......................this truck doubtless has served as the go-to reference for MANY other builds!
  12. Just put the finishing touches on the 'Binder. A fellow builder generously made these decals for me and did a superb job. I was unable to find someone to make custom decals and he stepped forward and volunteered. I have sent a few parts out to other members when they were in search of them. I never expected to be on the receiving end of such generosity. Many thanks! Paying it forward DOES work!
  13. Welcome! There's more than just a few of us old guys here!
  14. Very nice build.......and a cabover to boot! Nothing but the best!!!!
  15. I LOVE the info on the scribed method............works VERY well! ALSO, for those looking for the prototypical results of copying a 1:1 example, remember to check out the REAL 1:1 vehicle for where all the panel join lines are. MANY plastic kits do not include all of the panel lines. A perfect example is the AMT R600 Mack truck and the Ertl/MPC DM600 and DM800 kits. Those kit cabs do not show the panel lines on the cab as they are perfectly smooth where the seams should be, as if they were all filled in with bondo. Check out a 1:1 version and see them on the drivers side in front of the door; on the rocker panels; or on the cowl beneath the windshield. Those lines are where the individual panels are joined to make the cab. They are a VERY obvious part of the 1:1 truck, and should be added to the scale model. Just a pointer, but one VERY easily done with the scribing method.
  16. Nice job! Love the old Brockways! Nice work on the weathering and the frameless dump!
  17. Yeah...............tell the truth.......................you DO have a miniturization machine stashed somewhere DON'T you?????!!!!! Awesome!
  18. I got to the NNL early, and got in the door right at 9. I displayed the truck right away, but unfortunately had to leave at 1130 to make another commitment for my business. But, it was a SUPERB show, and I am SO glad I took the long drive to get there!
  19. That is an old resin cast from Mark Savage from about 25 years ago. He was a SUPERB resin caster and builder and marketed his parts for a while. I bought all that I could!
  20. I have many hobbies that I devote my time to. I am a life long gun collector, (I own a gun shop as my business), and have MANY guns of all types, 4 huge safes full. I shoot a lot, and enjoy all types of shooting from paper punching with a .22 to blowing watermelons away with my many machine guns. I love to ride my Harley when weather permits, in New England it ain't always permitting , if you know what I mean! I used to work on cars until the hobby developed into a business that was all consuming with 8 employees. Closed the shop, sold all the cars off except for my 91 Mustang 5.0 GT and a 46 Chevy truck, that maybe SOMEDAY will be put back together! I enjoy the 5.0 as much as time allows. I am an active deer hunter and hunt Vermont, Massachusetts, Kentucky and Missouri, with gun and crossbow. Of course, I build models, but not just cars and trucks, but also ANYTHING plastic, armor, planes, ships............anything. At one time I had over 4000 kits, but finally had to find sanity when I ran out of room and then moved, so the "stash" is down to about 300 now. I am a voracious reader, and read almost ANYTHING. I collect die cast equipment such as First Gear 1/25th scale. I love spending time with my three Labradors. And last but certainly not least, I LOVE spending time with my family and my grandson, soon to have a new sister!
  21. I got there at opening bell, but had to leave at 1130 to meet another commitment that I had back home. BUT, it was WELL worth the trip!
  22. Very nice build of a classic kit!!!!!
  23. Well, I just picked up a lowboy kit from DoubleTake Replicas, so that is a possibility, and I have a few other ideas, Fruehauf 40' flat, GD extendable, or maybe a kit bash of something else................the possibilities are endless! Am also working on a D-6 dozer rebuild of an old New Bright toy to put on as a load...............something different, as I don't usually go with the mainstream stuff, for sure! Cheers, Tom
  24. 'Tis DONE.......................and posted in UNDER GLASS! Finally!
  25. I saw this truck at NNL East.....................all I can say is that it defies belief. It is TOTALLY a replica of a real M series 5 Ton truck. It looks like you could jump into it, flip the power switch on, start her and drive away........in STYLE! Your work is absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! Tom
