1940 Ford larger trucks
junkyardjeff replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Found a complete cab and front fenders in my parts boxes so that is now going to be the base of the larger truck,it's most likely going to be some home made tow truck beater. -
I bought it for parts to use on a all 60s Monogram kit bash but what is left is worth saving,I have a 80s version coming that I was planning on using the chassis for this one but had a scare when I noticed it had the custom exhaust that attaches to the bed sides and they were not on but found them in the box. Did some looking in my parts boxes and might have some front suspension parts to fix the original chassis and put it back togather as it was built. I might have some custom parts left over that I will probably never use since it came with all of them.

After a close inspection of the 60s version I was wanting to save with the 80s chassis it might be a better candidate for the large truck, someone had put the custom exhaust that attaches to the bed sides and if I can not find any then that's the one going to be a big truck and the bed will become a utility trailer and that is if I can find dually rims and tires. Might be a project down the road. -

Plans might be changing for this build,I got the 80s version for the bed to put on one of my 60s built eBay purchases and the chassis and drivetrain on another I used for parts but got the messed up paint off the bed I was going to use so I will have a complete body. I got on to Scenes unlimited s website and looks like it was taken over by another so I do not know if those dually wheels are still available so it might get built as a half ton but will see what I can find. -

Would like to get the Opel but out of my budget right now and will check and see what I have in my parts stash and go from there, spent too much money getting the parts for the 60s parts bash and doctor bills will be coming soon for the surgery last friday. -

I do not remember seeing them in hobby shops but never looked at military models since they usually were a different scale. -

Might just build a home made truck,I remember seeing those trucks but did not know what year they were ,going to get a set of dually wheels from Scenes unlimited and see what I can build. Was there a kit that had a hand crank style wrecker as that might work better for a home built truck. -
I am going to have a Monogram 40 Ford pick up cab and front fenders and thinking about building a larger truck so did the larger trucks share the same front sheetmetal as the half ton or was it the one with the different front sheetmetal or was that one a different year, thinking about building a tow truck this time if I can find a donor for the winch and other related parts.

I am done buying Monogram 40 Fords
junkyardjeff replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I lied and bought another,it's a 80s version that I got for parts to fix two 60s versions. I got a can of bad paint and messed up the bed for the 40 that had the flatbed and need a chassis for another that I robbed parts off of,the bed with the messed up paint will become a utility trailer. -
If I ever build a nice one I will have to make sure that grille panel fits better, thought I had it in there better but this ones a beater and can live with it.
-
I pieced it togather from spare parts and some from eBay,it has the optional Mopar engine from the 49 Merc kit. Been wanting to build one that is a work in progress for years and finally done one.
-
I know a lot could build it better then I can but I hope it's good enough for here. Three more to finish then I can start on the unbuilt 34 kit,I really like building these old kits that should have been built years ago. I never thought that I would be building the kits my uncle and older cousins built before I was ever in school.
-
That is the color it was molded in.
-
This is the first old kit I have built and enjoyed building it,I really like the older Monogram kits since they really do not need to be painted. The only paint was used on the engine, interior and small details,I have two other unbuilt Monogram kits that will get built that are a 34 Ford and 41 Lincoln.

It is now done.

Got my last 60s Monogram 40 Ford pickup parts truck, the only reason I got it was the last parts truck was missing the carbs and unfortunately will not be able to save much more then the engine and rear suspension due to it being a very heavily glue bomb. I can not believe I got so crazy about having all 60s parts for a all 60s build but was able to do it.
