Fenderless Ford Roadster Hot Rods
Dave Darby replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Send it to me, Spike. Unless you are trying to build a tenderness highboy, that old Monogram is the best 32 Roadster out there. If traditional is your bag, it has the finest beam style dropped front axle with early Ford juice brakes ever put in a model kit. All the vintage speed parts from the Monogram Model A Woody or Touring kits will go right on that smallblock. I keep a ton of them in stock in my workshop. For building and for kitbashing. Far from 80s trash, it was tooled in the 1960s when Monogram was on top of their game. I'll take all you can send me. -
I gotta know more about this Pearl-ex. Appears it's just a pigment. What do you mix it with?

Another work of art. John. Spectacular craftsmanship and beautiful concept. I hope you'll share it on Faux-vivor Friday.

I like it a lot. And inquiring minds want to know; what paint is that?

Super uber nice build. Even more impressive being a diecast body.

1940 Ford Business Coupe V8. Cloudmist Gray

Gorgeous build Tulip. I wish the Revell kit would have been around 25 years ago when I built mine. It's a mix of a bunch of different bottles of Testors enamels airbrushed on.... -
AMT Round2 '57 Fantasy Parts Pack
Dave Darby replied to Dave Darby's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
My guess is they are. But I doubt Round2 is going to get rich off these. -
I'm glad I found this thread, because if you look closely at the box art on the side of the original issue AMT 32 Ford 5 Window Coupe (drag version), you can see it's equipped (only on the box art, unfortunately) with a Spalding Flamethrower. My box art replica (shown mocked up here) is getting one, with plug wires made from sewing thread run through beeswax, all old school....

AMT Round2 '57 Fantasy Parts Pack
Dave Darby replied to Dave Darby's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Actually I went down to the workshop tonight and opened up my reissue Flashback 57 Ford kit tonight and voila, all the parts pack stuff minus the useless plating are present. My guess is Round2 ran more of these retooled parts (in a separate tool) than they needed and are trying to blow them out. They shoulda just opened all the gates On the 57 Chevy. -
The one model car related item in their March product update video. Basically some of the custom accessories from the 57 Ford kit with plating even where you probably don't need or want it. Chrome bucket seats anyone? Oh and some white wall tires.

Fenderless Ford Roadster Hot Rods
Dave Darby replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The only roadster kit I know of with the fenders molded to the frame is the Monogram 32. -
Well how bout a bump for this thread. Yeah Revell's Deuces are more accurate. But like the other guys here say, the AMT 32s have that soul. Here is a box art replica I'm plugging away on. I've extended the frame rails, added a spreader bar, and sectioned the grille shell. Front End is sitting on the best dropped axle and juice brakes setup ever. The Monogram Deuce.

Everything about this build works for me Great color scheme too.

I had one of those RC2 66s too. Can't remember what custom wheels it had but the instructions (via Drastic Plastics) say the Hurst mags. Hopefully that's what we'll get.

That's a really nice Merc, but no. The kit comes with stock wheel covers and the one you think are wires are actually mag wheels. See above posts.

That is some seriously cool rolling stock. Those rear mags are worth the cost of admission alone.

1967 Pontiac Bonneville, More Mediocre Pics.

She's a beauty! -
Love it. Great color and stance. Nice to see one wearing white walls.

Ditto!

The hood trim has always been weak from the beginning on both the coupe and the sedan. It's due to the draft angle necessary for hood to eject from the mold.

Lindberg 1929 T Rod Background Info
Dave Darby replied to regular guy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well since nobody has given a correct answer here, I'm going to clear the whole mess up. The only thing Model T about this kit is the name, and the box art car, which is a 23-25 T Roadster. Inside you have your basic Lindberg plagiarized copy of AMT's Ala Kart cab (29 Model A with a 27 T rear section behind the doors), Hemi engine, and wheels. It does have the stock 29 Model A radiator shell. The front axle is copied from the AMT 36 Ford, and the headers from the AMT 25 T hot rod version. The frame and rear axle are Lindberg's concoctions. Here is the original box art... And kit contents. Case closed. -
Thank you for the compliment. It would look even better if I could a replacement for the missing header. I have a copy of the March 2018 HRD, but I already know what Moon discs look like. I have Hot Rod Magazines going back to the 40s. And I have photographed plenty of real ones as well. The only Moon discs I can think of that are oversized and completely hide the rim are those on the old Lindberg kits. As you can see by this original issue 40 sedan, the ones that came in the kit are pretty accurate. And yes the 49 Ford comes with some side exiting exhausts, but they are out of scale and don't hook up to anything. The ones that came in the 39/40 kit have a positive mount to the engine and look cool on top of that.

Well now you just separated the men from the boys! Nice!
