  1. Nice work!
  2. Amazing what a little detail can do to make the kit carbs look better. Excellent work.
  3. It amazes me how simplistic the chassis were back then.
  4. Looks great so far!
  5. Great work.
  6. Great work.
  7. Another knock out!
  8. Looks great.
  9. Thanks again. Unfortunately I only have one air brush so I may have to steal one of my friends extras or hold off on the zinsser for a while.
  10. Are you done yet? It takes me longer than 5 days to glue the engine halves together, yet alone build the entire kit.
  11. Not at all what I was expecting! Its far better!
  12. WOW! That is some serious detail.
  13. Now on to the fun part. The real J20 has 2 1/2 ton Rockwell top loader axles and 49" Super Swamper Irok tires under it. The tires were easy. I had a set of 49" Iroks I had been hoarding from a So Real diecast that were exactly what I needed. The hard part, they have never made (that I have found) a duce and a half in 1/25 scale. While some resort to using the axles from under a monster truck kit, IMHO they do not look anything like a 2 1/2 ton Rockwell. My solution was to use the axles from the Revell 1/32 5 ton Wrecker kit. They are kinda toy like and not exactly to scale, but with a little tweeking the will do for this build. Hosted on Fotki First step was to get the top loader looking a little more realistic. Hosted on Fotki A little Plastistruct half round, some Evergreen sheet and some super glue and it already looks a little more correct. Hosted on Fotki Added some Evergreen square to get the track width a little better, some .020 sheet to make some flanges and some Tamiya putty and there starting to look a little more like the real thing. Hosted on Fotki Built a quick simple cage from .080 rod. Hosted on Fotki Now its on to the suspension. Started building some leaf springs out of .010 x .020 Evergreen strip. (these will be fully functional when done) Hosted on Fotki
  14. A friend on Facebook is doing a build contest for off-road vehicles so I decided to join in on the fun. Kit is the 1996 reissue of the 1981 Revell Jeep Honcho. Hosted on Fotki My inspiration is an old J20 built by John Cappa for JP magazine a few years back. (Though I would love to swap the Gladiator front on, I don't intend to get that deep into this build so I opted to just use the kit grille) Hosted on Fotki For starters the truck needed some fender trimming and body work. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Removed the rear window louvers. Hosted on Fotki It was at this point I noticed the rear bed end cap was missing from my kit. Put a request up on here and John Shull aka 91blaze answered the call, sending me a replacement. Thanks again John. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  15. Can't wait to see how you weather this one out.
  16. Had a minor set back two weeks ago when I severely sprained my ankle and was un able to sit at my desk because I had to keep it elevated. Finally got to where I could sit for a short amount of time and got back to work earlier this week. Got the body painted (Tamiya TS-28 Olive Drab w/ Testors DullCoat over the decals) and decaled. Decals are from the AMT Hogan's Heroes Reissue. Waiting on some photo etched tabs so I can mount the front coilovers and then its down to final assembly. With any luck this one will be done soon. Till then, here's a few mock up pics. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  17. Thanks for the advice. Gary, is it necessary to thin the Zinsser and if so what do you use?
  18. What are you using for primer under Testors one coat? I know some have shot it on bare plastic, but I have done body work that requires a primer coat to seal. My go to has always been Krylon, but I had a crazing issue with the One Coat. I know Tamiya primer will work, but there is no local source for it. I'd like to find something I can get in rattle can from a local hardware store or wally world if possible. Thanks!
  19. Great build.
