I started a new challenge in balsa: a Ford Model 68 of 1936 not modified. The challenge is in the fact that I cannot, as before, only rely on cut out pieces and assemble them with only minor retouches. I need necessarily also work on them after cut out. But, I managed to create a working steering!! Unluckily I could not find in the beginning infos about the width of the car, so now I needed to redesign the whole car. I hope it will be ready soon. I calculated that I will design around 200 parts .. Here a couple of photos of the prototype (without doors and roof ...) Hope you like it although it is in wood

Lovely ... I understand. Thanks !!

Man, you drive me crazy !!!!!! ... (sorry for the "attaque de la passion") ... how wonderful! you are an artist !! I have just two questions: the roof is, as I see, in fabric? and, from a more technical point of view of the car itself, how does the rear seat worK? I mean there is a door, but then you cannot reach the seats because there is a window screen. Could it be somehow turned down? Is it the same in the original car?

Ford Model A Coupe' 1930 in Balsa Wood
Balsa Manufaktur replied to Balsa Manufaktur's topic in Model Cars
Lovely photos ! I agree, Tom. I guess it is just an unusual material to use it for an entire car and it is not used as a "kit" as I am doing it. Will try your advice for bass wood: actually I am using in the last model I am working on #3mm plywood for the base structure and steering because balsa is definitely too weak. .... I just know about the old Hudson Miniature of the 40ies and 50ies that they used Balsa Wood for the body (but still many parts like wheels were casted) ...- 25 replies

Ford Model A Coupe' 1930 in Balsa Wood
Balsa Manufaktur replied to Balsa Manufaktur's topic in Model Cars
Thanks a lot to all your replies, it is encouraging. Sure, with wood you cannot reach the details of diecast models, but it is also a lot of fun to start a car from scratch just with blueprint drawings. Not sure if this is common with other materials. The challenge is to find the middle ground between the "wood character" and the details ... in order not to make it bulky or blocky. Still needs some editing of laser cutting ... In my blog you find some details of the making: http://balsamanufaktur.blogspot.com.eg/p/about.html- 25 replies
