  1. Got some parts in the mail today from futur attractions, one of which were these 30x11 slicks..was planning on using a different tire in back but these look mean on there and just barely fit. Might have to go with these.
  2. Detailed the chassis a little bit last night as well.
  3. I recently got back into modelling after a 20+ year hiatus..back in 2011 I was given the model as a gag gift by a friend who knew Novas were one of my favorite cars. At the time I was recovering from an injury and off work so I though I'd try my hand at building it. I didn't get very far at the time, all I did was paint the body and ended up losing interest and sticking it back in the box and in a closet. Well fast forward another 13 years and I decided to pull it back out and start on it again. This time around I plan on finishing it. Build will be heavily kit bashed with aftermarket resin or 3D printed stuff. It will be built as a street/strip 80s-90s era street machine. Already ordered a bunch of parts for it from VCG and futur attraction. I will be using some weld pro stars from AMTs 57 corvette as well as the 9" ford housing, scratch built traction bars and a swap from a 4 speed to a th400 trans. It will keep it's small block but have some random kit bashed stuff on it as well as a 3D printed carb and moroso valve covers. Plan is to put a wired distributor in and some fuel line. So far I've got the 9" fitted to the leaf springs and the body clearanced for the wheels and tires. The paint on the body is a black base with old model masters ruby red over it. I had to paint the chassis still and I'm shocked that the can still sprayed, pretty sure I bought that paint in about 2004. For the interior, rather than do basic black like I had planned I wanted something different that showed a little more detail. so I decided to go with a dark tan/light brown color..mixed up some different colors I had to get this. That's as far as I've gotten for now though. I'll post some more progress as I go. Side note, I had this spare body that I used to test out the ruby paint years back, so I tried my hand at using a molotow chrome pen for the trim and WOW I wish I had thought of this years ago when I used to build models because I knocked out the whole thing in about 5 minutes...and it looks way better than silver paint and probably much easier than BMF.
  4. As of now there is only one kit that i know of that has a nicely detailed holley 4150 style carburetor and thats in the AMT 57 bel air street machine kit which i may just buy to harvest a few parts from..but if i dont have to Id like to just get a few of these 3D printed carbs if they are as nice as they look in the picture i posted above.
  5. im guessing since TDR used shapeways to print their sruff i would asusme their printers are pretty expensive and can print quality pieces. But still Id like to see just how detailed a 1:25th carburetor is. for instance this is a carb offered on teds modeling made by TDR (eventhough it says its a dominator its not..but supposedly this is 1:24th scale, if true thats amazing detail.
  6. what would make the prepping process any different from 1:16th to 1:25? Only thing i noticed is the material they use in some photos is a clear type plastic, is that what you're talking about?
  7. Anyone have any experience with 3D printed 1:24/1:25 scale parts? I see there's a company named TDR innovations that sells a bunch of stuff for different scale models but I can't find any REAL pictures of their stuff, just computer models. they state that they don't actually 3D print this stuff themselves so I assume they use a 3rd party and give them their designs? I'm mainly only interested in a 3D printed carburator in the 1:24/1:25 scale because by the rendering, it looks super detailed.
  8. Thanks! I have all of my modeling stuff in my parents basement, don't recall off hand what the name of the color was but i THINK it was a model masters ruby red or something of the sort, I painted it over a flat black base and cleared it. But all done with spray paint, no air brush.
  9. found some pictures of the Revell 69 Nova that I started working on a few years ago..this is about how far I made it lol.. Couldn't decide on whether I wanted to give bare metal foil a shot or not..I had always hand painted the trim when I was younger. Also started to move the leaf springs in to fit bigger tires in the wheelwells and scratch built some longer traction bars to hit the spring eye. I really wanted to use some different wheels, and I couldn't stand the knock off centerline convo pro style wheels that came with the kit, so I grabbed some of those weld prostar wheels from the 57 corvette street machine kit, IMO they are the most realistic size and offset wheel that any kit has to offer, but I'm just so tired of using them lol, i think i have 3 or 4 models with them on there already.
  10. Hey whats up there Jesse, I was wondering if I'd see you on here haha..oh yes, I'm aware how addicting it is, I remember as a kid sitting in the basement at my parents house for 6 hours at a time messing with model cars staying up till 3am sometimes lol.
  11. Here are my current rides, 95 Mark VIII, have owned it about 5 years, went from my daily driver to my "fun" car. 2nd is my 05 Silverado 2wd, 5.3, 3:23 posi...great truck, and gets up and moves when it needs to.
  12. Hey thanks! I have literally never been to a model car meet, I would like to check one out some time though. Most of my models need some love though lol, those are all old pictures from 15 years ago, sadly they don't all look as good as they did when I built them, glue has dried out and alot of little parts need to be glued back on...not to mention dusty
  13. sure not a problem, ill edit my name. If you're a car guy (which im sure you are) you may have seen me or my dad around the local car shows..his 62 has been out of comission for about 5 years though.
  14. Whats up everyone, decided to join to ask questions and possibly answer some. Been into model building since i was about 10 years old, about to turn 30 soon Havent built any models for about 15 years however. About 5 years ago I was off work due to an injury and around the same time a friend of mine bought me kind of a gag gift because he knew I liked novas (got me the revell 69 nova kit). So since I was off work I figured what the hell, might as well build the kit he got me. Of course I decided to NOT build it box stock since I hardly ever did back when I was into modeling, so needless to say I got stuck on a few things and never finished. But with all of the model car facebook pages the spark has kinda been re-ignited. And man the amount of aftermarket parts available now is insane to just a mere 10 years ago. I've been wanting to finish that nova that I started, and have been getting ideas on different parts to modify it with after searching all of the resin parts manufacturers. Also I have always wanted to build a replica of my dad's 62 corvette but hated the AMT kit that's been around for years, however I just found out Revell released a new kit for the 62 which has much better proportions and detail. When it comes to building model cars for me, I obsess over the "stance" of the car and how realistic the wheel and tire package makes it look, and since my dad's car wears big and little weld draglites, that was always a road block for me since there were no kits that offered them besides one or two funny car kits..and the rears are simply too wide. The only other option was the resin draglites which of course aren't chrome..plus I don't have an air brush to use Alclad chrome which to me doesn't really resemble chrome very well for wheels. But I just went and bought the 57 chevy funny car kit on ebay today which I plan to steal the wheels from and try my hand at narrowing the rears to closer resemble the wheels on my dad's car. So I might just get back into the game and buy that revell 62 corvette kit and get to work on it. Since I know we all love pics I'll post a few of the models I built back when i was a "kid". All of these kits were built around 2000-2001 when I was around 15 years old, most of the parts you see were kit bashed and the rest were sourced from the model car garage, dencon resin (formerly known as lookout model car products) or detail master. I also threw in a few pictures of my dad's car which I'd like to try to replicate.
