Did some test fitting to see if I could slip the body over the interior tub and chassis..unfortunately the interior has to be fastened to the body before hand. I plan on running fuel line with a regulator mounted to the inner fender but can't do that until the body is on the interior tub and chassis since the inner fenders are attached to the interior. But figured I would throw the rear end and tires on to give me an idea how it all looks.. so far I'm happy with how it's turned out.

I was going to suggest a 9" also after seeing that weird thick rear axle..just didn't seem to scale at all. I like the 9" from the AMT 57 corvette street machine kit, have a few of those kits laying around so I stole the rear end for my nova project.

Got the headers painted and glued on for good and the distributor in and wired..haven't done that in probably 20 years, reaaally tested my eyes out with getting the plug wires through those tiny looms lol.

Wow looks awesome, great stance and wheel/tire choice! Where did you get the rear tires?

Made some more progress, got the engine mostly together and painted, had to modify the intake to fit a bit better as it came out of a 1:24th scale stock car kit, added a carb spacer and drilled some accessory holes in the heads and some molotow chrome to the ends of the heads to give the appearance of a machined face of aftermarket aluminum heads..still have to add some black wash to the carb and valve covers. Waiting on a wired distributor from morgan automotive detail..placed the order 10 days ago and haven't gotten an email confirmation or shipping details yet so don't know what's going on with them. But it's coming together.

Thanks! Trying to knock out another part of the car every day I'm off work..this forum keeps me motivated haha.

actually I think I figured out what it was from, I think it was a mid 70s dodge D100. I found someone doing an unboxing of an MPC 1977 dodge "warlock" pickup and it's got a small block and a single plane that looks identical.
-
There was some mopar kit from the 70s I would say that had a nice small block LA single plane intake. No clue what it was though, maybe a stock car? Only reason I know this is because my uncle built a lot of models in the mid 70s and had a bunch of old parts and pieces he gave me in a box, I had the whole engine out of whatever kit it was, however I cannibalised the intake for a small block chevy lol.

thanks! the rear tires changed the whole look..was originally going to put some smaller street tires on from the AMT 57 corvette street machine kit, but after trying these I couldn't resist lol.

I've had great results with enamel dupli color silver caliper paint..used it on several occasions on my car, when last assembling my engine I painted the timing cover and valley cover with it and used some rustoleum enamel 2x clear over it..with minimal prep it turned out very nice. The silver has a very fine flake to it lays down nicely, and the rustoleum clear gives it a very smooth finish. Next time I decide to paint a model car body silver that's what I'll be using. I zoomed into the timing cover on my LS to show the finish as best as I can.

Did this kit come with the hard top? Or was it only offered in the gasser version?
-
Very nicely done so far, what diameter rod did you use for the header primary extensions?

Got the interior put together, added a set of accessory gauges under the dash and a 3D printed B&M shifter from VCG. Otherwise stock.

I've got a revell 1998 trans am kit that I would like to turn into a formula..looking at it, it doesn't seem like an easy task to modify the front and rear bumpers and scratch build a hatch wing. I know AMT made some 93-97 formulas but it appears they didn't make it with a realistic rear bumper, just uses the T/A bumper instead and nothing else in the kit would be of any use to me. I would like to replicate my car if at all possible.

Do you also have 1:1 project cars?
keviiin86 replied to ctruss53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's my on going project, always something to change or upgrade..this is the first year in a while I haven't HAD to fix something on it, so I'm using my time to get back into model building. -
Got some parts in the mail today from futur attractions, one of which were these 30x11 slicks..was planning on using a different tire in back but these look mean on there and just barely fit. Might have to go with these.

I recently got back into modelling after a 20+ year hiatus..back in 2011 I was given the model as a gag gift by a friend who knew Novas were one of my favorite cars. At the time I was recovering from an injury and off work so I though I'd try my hand at building it. I didn't get very far at the time, all I did was paint the body and ended up losing interest and sticking it back in the box and in a closet. Well fast forward another 13 years and I decided to pull it back out and start on it again. This time around I plan on finishing it. Build will be heavily kit bashed with aftermarket resin or 3D printed stuff. It will be built as a street/strip 80s-90s era street machine. Already ordered a bunch of parts for it from VCG and futur attraction. I will be using some weld pro stars from AMTs 57 corvette as well as the 9" ford housing, scratch built traction bars and a swap from a 4 speed to a th400 trans. It will keep it's small block but have some random kit bashed stuff on it as well as a 3D printed carb and moroso valve covers. Plan is to put a wired distributor in and some fuel line. So far I've got the 9" fitted to the leaf springs and the body clearanced for the wheels and tires. The paint on the body is a black base with old model masters ruby red over it. I had to paint the chassis still and I'm shocked that the can still sprayed, pretty sure I bought that paint in about 2004. For the interior, rather than do basic black like I had planned I wanted something different that showed a little more detail. so I decided to go with a dark tan/light brown color..mixed up some different colors I had to get this. That's as far as I've gotten for now though. I'll post some more progress as I go. Side note, I had this spare body that I used to test out the ruby paint years back, so I tried my hand at using a molotow chrome pen for the trim and WOW I wish I had thought of this years ago when I used to build models because I knocked out the whole thing in about 5 minutes...and it looks way better than silver paint and probably much easier than BMF.

3D printed parts?
keviiin86 replied to keviiin86's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As of now there is only one kit that i know of that has a nicely detailed holley 4150 style carburetor and thats in the AMT 57 bel air street machine kit which i may just buy to harvest a few parts from..but if i dont have to Id like to just get a few of these 3D printed carbs if they are as nice as they look in the picture i posted above. -
3D printed parts?
keviiin86 replied to keviiin86's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
im guessing since TDR used shapeways to print their sruff i would asusme their printers are pretty expensive and can print quality pieces. But still Id like to see just how detailed a 1:25th carburetor is. for instance this is a carb offered on teds modeling made by TDR (eventhough it says its a dominator its not..but supposedly this is 1:24th scale, if true thats amazing detail. -
3D printed parts?
keviiin86 replied to keviiin86's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
what would make the prepping process any different from 1:16th to 1:25? Only thing i noticed is the material they use in some photos is a clear type plastic, is that what you're talking about? -
Anyone have any experience with 3D printed 1:24/1:25 scale parts? I see there's a company named TDR innovations that sells a bunch of stuff for different scale models but I can't find any REAL pictures of their stuff, just computer models. they state that they don't actually 3D print this stuff themselves so I assume they use a 3rd party and give them their designs? I'm mainly only interested in a 3D printed carburator in the 1:24/1:25 scale because by the rendering, it looks super detailed.
