Good God Harry, don't put that thought in somebody's head.........although maybe he'll get his chance to deck one of them idiots too then -
Bodacious Tatas coming our way?
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Could be interesting to see what happens if they run a Smart into a Tata.........I'd be willing to bet that the Smart would to more damage than a mid-sized car, wouldn't be surprised if it tore a Tata in half during a Smart vs Tata side impact test -

Wonder how that would handle US or EuroNCAP crash tests, even in improved form.......... -
So far as I know, Testors still does much of their paints as such in Rockford, IL and even though labor cost probably haven't increased, the costs of the chemicals, containers, and transportation all have by a good amount.

There's about 6 within 11 miles from home that carry the stuff, 2 of which didn't work that good and were expensive compared to the oyher 3 that I have bought from. Mileage ain't so hot compaired to 87, but have heard these cars run better on E-85 vs Premium and can verify that the cars like it better than 87!

It's no longer British.......or wasn't rebuilt stateside by them.........

Not sure what it costs to smoke or drink, my 200 is the only regular drinker in my house if I smoke anything it's either tires or electronics. From what I understand, the taxes levied on smokes go towards health insurance for kids in the state of Illinois, so it's not like it's being wasted.

E-85 "should" follow pricing set by the Ethanol and Corn futures markets, which are way more stable than the oil and gasoline markets. Reason I say "should" instead of should is that some stations have been know to priced it $.20-$.50 less a gallon vs 87 octane even though the real pricing is closer to $.70-$1.00 a gallon less. That sounds about par for the course in parts of Michigan, and I have found that Dupage and Cook Counties are more expensive than Kane and the E-85 bought in Dupage isn't as good mileage and performance wise as that I've bought in Kane.

That's some of why I switched to E-85 in mt Chrysler, Price swings aren't near as bad and it's easier to budget for fuel when it's not changing from day to day let alone fill up to fill up!
-
That's right, you're in Cook! Not sure about Dupage, but St. Charles it still 8% and then there was a HobbyTown by Fox Valley Mall, one side of Rt 59 was 6.75% and the other was 8%......just been so long I can't remember which!

Frustration Day
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ok, I wasn't sure what hours Glen usually has for his store.......I was even wondering if Zack was opening and late getting there (did that more than once when we worked by Fox Valley Mall........) and you may have misread the hours -
That does sound excessive, especially for anything from Testors!

Mopar cars that should be cast!

That could make for a cool model too I'd love to see the K-Cars and Minivans be done again in styrene, especially the Shelby and Non-Shelby turbo cars -

Which HobbyTown was it Harry? We stopped carrying the stuff due to lack of sales and I think we get asked maybe once every couple yearsabout them. Even just to special order them, we have to order a box of 3 cans or 6 bottles just to get 1 of either and the rest just sit for years. Last time we had somebody order two cans, I bought the third so it wasn't just sitting around the store. -
All of Testors' and Tamiya's products have gotten more expensive in since January, Tamiya in particular.

That was a '40 Pontiac IIRC. -
My Dad did too, he's even more impressed by the modern naturally asperated factory motors that put out over 1hp per cubic inch, yet are reliable enough for daily driver duties. My sister has an '06 Charger SE with the 3.5l V-6 and he was impressed by how strong it ran for having that small of an engine (it's only 217ci), especially when he thought back to the '50 Plymouth coupe with the 90hp 217ci Flathead I-6 he had as a first car........then there's that 3.6l (220ci) Pentastar V-6 in my 200, 283 horse yet can burn any pump gasoline as well as E-85! Back then, getting anywhere near that kind of power would be good for a quarter mile at a time and still not even be driveable around the pits and return lane let alone be able to drive it to work or the store.
-
Did I just read that right..........seriously? Ethanol not only is a form of alchohol, but other than gas mileage, it works quite well as a performance fuel , is less corrosive than Wood Alchohol and is consumable by humans as a "beverage" Been running the stuff in my 200 since late may and once the computer figured out how to best burn it, that Pentastar V-6 was actually more driveable in hot weather and made more power lower in the power band than it did on 87 octane pump gas and ran cooler in 90°+ temps with the A/C cranked to -11! I've also run into a couple young guys at the pumps with turbocharged Mistubishi's that were tuned to make power on it, the latter of them had an Eclipse GSX that had sounded like it had a couple healthy cams in it when he pulled up. I asked him what all had been done to it and he said that it had a "built" bottom end, bigger cams, bigger turbo, front mount intercooler, and then was planning on running around 35 pounds of boost. IIRC, he was expecting a 500+ HP..............and that's a conservative estimate!

Yea, I left work on my lunch break and thought I saw a snowflake as I stepped into the parking lot! This sucks, we haven't even done the brakes on my Jeep yet!

1/25 Revell '67 Dodge Coronet- Foose Edition
Joe Handley replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
What Bill said, plus the car shouldn'd be too difficult to drop, might have to tuck the fronts in a bit to fit them in the fenders though.............. -

That don't look good, can't be helpful for the newly repainted TB either!
