I HOBBY EXPO ANYONE GOING?
Joe Handley replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If it was still here in Chicago, sure, I would have.......not driving to Ohio gor it though, last year was barely worth the gas money to get there from the next county west. -
No Dodge in Nascar next year
Joe Handley replied to jjsipes's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gotta agree with the Top 35 and "The Chase", just stupid. More short tracks and road courses would be great, Dad and I have gone to Toad America last three years for the Nationwide races and it's been a great event to go see............even if we sit near people who have had more booze to drink than my 200 did on the drive there, or any of the Nationwide cars running there -
Didn't John Schneider also use his for one of the movies too? I think the late 90's movie from after Denver Pyle passed on.

retro and rat rods, just dont get it.......
Joe Handley replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or the guy who told Dad the Long Ram (over the valve covers) Chrysler 383 in his high boy 5 Window Coupe (it was a Mopar, can't remember which one) as a small block when Dad asked him if it was a low (B motor) or raised (RB motor) deck............ -

You can always tell who pays somebody to fix or build everything, whole different attitude and not always the one you want to deal with from a parts guy, mechanic, or even a service writer's standpoint. -

In the races we run at the HTU I work at, the cars like that are one of the more popular classes we have! -

I'd still like to get my hands on the RC version of that little guy that Tamiya makes! -

No, IIRC they're made specifically for NASCAR use. but have to have factory part numbers to make them "production" engines. -
Thought I heard somewhere that to help make the '68 grill look like a '69, they were making the center divider and putting them on the '68 grills for what ever car had that grill on it.
-
IIRC they were buying what ever '68-'70 Chargers they could get their hands on and doijg what ever was needed to make them look like '69 Chargers. The 70's usually got a '68 or '69 front clip and I'm not sure what they did taillight wise on the 68's.

Airfix Aston Martin DBR1, 1:1 model
Joe Handley replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's pretty cool, and I somehow get the feeling James May's 1/1 Airfix Spitfire inspired it too. -
Problem is though, there are fully functioning idiots out there that can miss a brightly painted locomotive with rumbling diesels, flashing lights, lowered crossing gates, and people yelling for them to STOP!!!!, I'd hope those noisemakers would work. I have heard a Tahoe hybrid running on electricity, sounded like a vacume cleaner, Volts are quieter, but you still get some mechanical noises from it. They did for the scooters they use in one of the Scandanavian countries, it could be a crash hazard though.............hard to pay attention to your surroundings while laughing that hard

2013 Dodge Dart !
Joe Handley replied to moparmagiclives's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To me, the Dart name seems more appropriate on this car than those that proceded it, and I still don't know why people complain about it being an economy car, they all have since the mid 60's, just modern economy cars are small, fwd sedans with 4 cylinder motors. Chances are this one is going to be quicker and will corner far better than any average Dart of years past. Times have changed anyway when it comes to power vs displacement anyway, any of the cars equipped with the engine in the Challenger Jeff mentioned, my 200 has a toned down version of that motor and magazines have gotten quarter mile times that would rival Iroc Z's and 5.0 Mustangs, as well.as some of the milder musclecars from the 60's and 70's, yet it can be driven daily, get decent mileage while being able to drink everything from plain old 87 octane to E-85 (the mileage isn't as good on E-85, but the performance is better ), handle well, and not stand out in a speed trap! -

I get the feeling bothe the Wilys and Caprice would be a handful to drive as they sit in those pics. I'd consider the Willys first, but I would at least have ground off the rust and put some kind of sealer primer on it to try and protect the sheet metal. I'm not super fond of the rat rod as it has become, it's become more of a freak show than a hot rod at that point. I don't mind a patinaed car, I've owned and driven newer vehicles that ended up having a patina by the time we scraped them. I just don't get the idea of taking an older rest, survivor, or just a decent ride that needs a little TLC and basically ruining by ratting it out either. It would be one thing if it was a field or junk yard escapee that was being built as time went on, but sanding or stripping perfectly serviceable, if not brand new paint to make it look older makes no sense to me. Trucks! took an "Advanced Design" Chevy that needed a little TLC (pretty much a freshened engine is all it needed) and put a Pinto style front suspension on it, 4 Linked rear, mild kustom body work, modern brakes, and a worked over I-6 with Torque Thrusts. What bothers me is that after all that work, they put a fake patina on it tuat just ruined the truck to me. Had they just seam primed the whole truck, or just repainted the altered sheet metal in a matching dark green, it would have looked better. Had it been me building it, I'd have probably left it solid axled, but still lowered it, done the hot rodded I-6, maybe put a newer trans in it, and played with the rolling stock on it if it was supposedly a budget build...........then again for me, I don't have all the cool toys they do on that show......as well as an enclosed shop..... I always found it funny hearing the people that were on Monster Garage complain about how primitive the MG shop was........while thinking how nice that shop looked when compared to laying on the bare concrete in the back yard with basic hand tools............... -
The 5 best GM designs
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gotta agree with the Vette and Riv, but I'd expand that to cover that whole generation of both lines. I half agree with number 5 though, I thought the Saturn Sky was better looking than the Solstice IMHO. Don't care much for the Camaro or Tornado though, the '71-'95 G-Vans and '67-'72 Chevrolet pick ups would have been a better choice than those two. -
I gotta agree with Bill. The whole car goes to pot after the B-Pillar and over all kinda reminds me of that yellow "Mingni" that was shown on Top Gear earlier this year.

So you think your R8 is bad ?
Joe Handley replied to Bad Brad #2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm surprised the van did better, my parent's Town and Country might be one of the worst handling vehicles Dad has driven! -
I don't know, that almost looks like the one Cooter was running 'shine with in one of the early shows filmed in Georgia.
-
Nice looking build, are those set up as a draw through type induction with the carb mounted before the superchargers?

Cars that killed their "parents"...

I still see more Dustbuster in these things... It's even nearly the right color
