What kind of off roading were you looking to do? There's all sorts of stuff from monster trucks, short course,1/10 "stadium", 1/8-1/14 buggy, truggy (which are basicly a larger scale version of the stadium truck), rock crawlers and their off shoots, scalers (since you're into models, you might enjoy that), rock racers, Formula-Off Road (also known as FOFF ) racers.

Real or Model #187 FINISHED!
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Yup, the picture that Harry posted is actually on Exile's website as well! I remembered it from that particular buildoff because he ran back tires on both ends of the bike for something different from one fat and one skinny. -
Looks good so far Darren!

Thanks guys! That will be the tricky part, with any luck, I'll be able to do more on it tomorrow.

I was at the gym tonight and saw a music video from some DJ that used a targa topped late model Mustang that was 100% computer generated. I thought I had been seeing things since I didn't have my glasses on so after I finished my second to last set, I got up and went to watch and sure enough it was a Palmer-esk digital rendition of a '05-'12 Mustang. Well, I got to thinking that there was a '08 Bullit Mustang kit in the back of my Jeep and that targa chop should be easy to do. Well since getting home that kit has been brought in and has been attacked my a couple of my X-Acto saws! Here's the car almost straight from the box; And now the post X-Acto attack carnage! One of the next mods planned will be to replace the back window, back seat, and package tray with styrene to give that portion of the car a Delorean-esk or early C-3 coupe look. Probably will do a full on fairweather only no top or back window show/concept car style in those respects.

1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z Inspired build.
Joe Handley replied to Shelbytona's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've got a few of these (ok......6 of these) from the RC2 reissue want to do one in Black with Bourdeux Red (i.e. blood red) interior like my Lebaron GTS was. Been putting serious thought into getting a V-6 Chrysler 200 Touring because of how bad gas prices have been of late and wish they offered them as hatchbacks like the H- and P-Bodies were back in the day. -

Yup, I still miss the ones I used to own. -
Ditto

Yup, I've been thinking that maybe I should buy a newer car that has a warranty and get's better gas mileage. I would be paying on the car, but if the MPG's are better than my XJ gets and there is a warranty on it to take care of non wear items, it might be worth the money.......now doing so without having to sell said XJ might be kinda tricky

Building the Moebius 1955 Chrysler C300
Joe Handley replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is going to sound crazy, but I'm already itching to paint one in that One Coat Black Metallic since it's a close match for Chrysler's Crystal Black Clear Coat paint they're now using on a variety of cars and vans......maybe with a mild drop and some debadging. -

The Turismo was Plymouth's version of the L-Body 3dr Coupe (I.E. Charger) IIRC and if they have anything in common, it will be some of the drivetrain components and some of the badging. -
Easy, once there are enough Hybrids, Electrics, and Extended Range EV's are on the roads, maybe increase the registration fees on those compared to 100% fuel burning cars and trucks. Say like on my Jeep and Harry's Mustang here in Illinois, it's $100 a year and more if you have a specialty plate, it's more. Maybe put the greener cars at $200-$300 for conventional plates and even more for the specialty plates (say a vanity plate is normally $120, make it $240-$360).

I don't even mind the gas taxes since they're supposed to go towards maintaining the roads, I'd kinda like not to have to own a rally car or pre-runner style truck just to drive down paved roads like Rte38 had gotten to be until last summer. What pisses me off it the whole speculation nonsense and little excuses that seem to pop up, had a customer tell me last week that two of the local refineries were shut down at the same time for "Maintenance", and of course gas prices rose accordingly

I don't want to think about that Harry, the store is now farther away from home now than it was in '08. Dad mentioned that there was a street racing wreck recently that not only killed all involved, but also managed to take out an oil pipeline running to some of the local refineries, so expect things to get worse than the rest of the region for those of us here in the Chicagoland area.

COPO Camaro is Back!
Joe Handley replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, it is a race car after all, gas mileage don't matter when you're only running a quarter mile at a time The Super/Rumble Bee badging on a top of the line model gets me just as bas as that. That's like putting the Road Runner badge on a Chrysler 300c -

Boy would that be a trip to see, pull up to work and find somebody camping out in front of the place You would have seen a store full of confused and somewhat amused employees though if they're any thing like me and my co-workers -
Rumor has it.......

They also bought Axial (RC Products) as well as have an exclusive contract for Ace products like Associated Electronics and Thunder Tiger RC stuff.
