Yup, I've been thinking that maybe I should buy a newer car that has a warranty and get's better gas mileage. I would be paying on the car, but if the MPG's are better than my XJ gets and there is a warranty on it to take care of non wear items, it might be worth the money.......now doing so without having to sell said XJ might be kinda tricky

Building the Moebius 1955 Chrysler C300
Joe Handley replied to Len Carsner's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is going to sound crazy, but I'm already itching to paint one in that One Coat Black Metallic since it's a close match for Chrysler's Crystal Black Clear Coat paint they're now using on a variety of cars and vans......maybe with a mild drop and some debadging. -
1988 Dodge Daytona Shelby Z Inspired build.
Joe Handley replied to Shelbytona's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The Turismo was Plymouth's version of the L-Body 3dr Coupe (I.E. Charger) IIRC and if they have anything in common, it will be some of the drivetrain components and some of the badging. -
Easy, once there are enough Hybrids, Electrics, and Extended Range EV's are on the roads, maybe increase the registration fees on those compared to 100% fuel burning cars and trucks. Say like on my Jeep and Harry's Mustang here in Illinois, it's $100 a year and more if you have a specialty plate, it's more. Maybe put the greener cars at $200-$300 for conventional plates and even more for the specialty plates (say a vanity plate is normally $120, make it $240-$360).

I don't even mind the gas taxes since they're supposed to go towards maintaining the roads, I'd kinda like not to have to own a rally car or pre-runner style truck just to drive down paved roads like Rte38 had gotten to be until last summer. What pisses me off it the whole speculation nonsense and little excuses that seem to pop up, had a customer tell me last week that two of the local refineries were shut down at the same time for "Maintenance", and of course gas prices rose accordingly

I don't want to think about that Harry, the store is now farther away from home now than it was in '08. Dad mentioned that there was a street racing wreck recently that not only killed all involved, but also managed to take out an oil pipeline running to some of the local refineries, so expect things to get worse than the rest of the region for those of us here in the Chicagoland area.

COPO Camaro is Back!
Joe Handley replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, it is a race car after all, gas mileage don't matter when you're only running a quarter mile at a time The Super/Rumble Bee badging on a top of the line model gets me just as bas as that. That's like putting the Road Runner badge on a Chrysler 300c -

Boy would that be a trip to see, pull up to work and find somebody camping out in front of the place You would have seen a store full of confused and somewhat amused employees though if they're any thing like me and my co-workers -

They also bought Axial (RC Products) as well as have an exclusive contract for Ace products like Associated Electronics and Thunder Tiger RC stuff. -
Depends; If it's going to be a custom.....down in back!, maybe lower than the front by a bit. Street machine and/or drag, keep the back end a little higher than the front, just not cartoonie looking though.

I've heard about the plane field, I just rarely make into Cook County, I'm usually bouncing back and forth between DuPage and Kane.
-
Any info on how the Hybrid system works and if this one is diesel too?
-
Yea, we've discovered with the RC Rock Crawler stuff that the Cook Co. Park District doesn't have any issues with us playing on the rocks at places like Busse. Here in DuPage of you want to fly or run a boat, you have to buy permits (and you have to be an AMA member to get a plane permit), go to specific places, and don't you dar play with a car there and get caught by the wrong ranger! A friend of mine was threatened with a ticket and confiscation of the crawler (that topped out around 5mph) he was driving at the time. Luckily Kane Co. seems to be like Cook, I haven't even had a cop or ranger do more than wave let along hassle me on playing with my toys in their parks!

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
Joe Handley replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
While this screen name is obvious, the ones I use most other places is either BJoe or BJoeHandley, and that "B" stems from my first name being William and for the first couple years of my life everybody called me "Billy Joe". For some weird reason before we moved from Iowa to suburban Chicago when I was 3, I decided that I wanted to go by Joe instead of Billy Joe and that was that. As for my current avatar, I had let my beard and hair get too long (I think I was waiting for pay day and/or a day off that the shop I go to was open, those don't line up too often) and I had just a stupid idea at work to pull my hair as far over my face as I could (think I pulled it over my glasses too, can't remember) and took the picture with my old flip phone that I had to get rid of back in September. I may have to try it again with my new smart phone before I get my hair cut again -
Real or Model #186 FINISHED!
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Ah, I figured it was some sort of diecast. Not at all surprised it's one of his builds though, it slots right in with his typical builds in style, quality, and subject matter. -

Fantastic looking build! -
My god those tires are huge, I think those are close in size to what my E-Revo and Stampede R/C trucks use!

Think I saw the right front tire off the ground a couple times too (same clip, just different portions of the "race")! -
Inventive way to destroy a race car.
Joe Handley replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In all honesty, the jet drier would still be safer, what if a bunch of track sweepers were out there instead?! You might have a bunch of critically injured if not dead track emplyees instead of a handful of shaken up drivers and a half toasted crew cab dually.
