F1 season is in full force!
Joe Handley replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I was wondering if that's what that bar code was all about. It seemed like a decent race (didn't fall asleep while watching it either!) and that track looked heeeuuuuuge too! What got Dad though was that the track looked glass smooth from the images shown on TV, yet the cars were bobbling around like they were trying the things to drive on some of our frost heaved roadways -
im curious about something.........

Hopefully the doors hold on halfway decent though............ -
Mopar sacrilege?
Joe Handley replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We did have some issues with the driverside "B-Pillar" (or what ever you'd call it) our second G-Van starting to break at the door latch pin location and there have been paint flake or clear coat fade issues on most of the mid-80's through early 90's Mopars we had. I don't think I've ever heard Dad not complain about a lot of the rail road Fords being worth the metal they were made out of (especially the late 70's through mid 90's F-Series), and about the only think he ran into at one road that was at best nearly as reliable were the Mercedes Unimogs in the early 80's, which spent almost as much time broken and waiting on parts from Germany as they did on the job and working! IIRC C&NW gave up on those turds within 6 months and got rid of all but a few, which were shipped to rural areas where the local railroaders who used them could fix them with knowlage gained from repairing farm equipement when they grew up on the farm. -
Restore or "Restify?"
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know if we still do, but it must have been from when the car was fairly new because it still had the door scoops and R/T badging on it IIRC. Dad ordered the car as a fairly stripped down R/T then ditched those scoops and badges in favor of 500 badges on the doors to help throw off their insurer, the police, and the local hot foots. Mom used to have issues with the '68 or 69 Cornet (it was either a Super Bee or R/T and even had the rump stripe, I can't remember which one they told me it was anymore and my folks can't remember either...) it replaced with being followed by the local teen boys, street racers, and cops looking for some kind of action -
Restore or "Restify?"

Yea, Mom was driving it down a steep hill when it stalled on her in early '76, she ended up putting it in a ditch and shoving the entire right side right up along the engine. They bought it back form the insurance company and Dad stripped the car and sold all the surviving goodies to a friend who built a Dart drag car with them. I don't know if that would have been restorable today, ut I do know it would have been worth quite a bit even before the Barrett Jackson lunacy! -
Restore or "Restify?"

NP Moparfan, kinda get that attitude from my father, we've had some fairly "rare" mopars (and maybe a couple F/S Chevy's vans too ) that were lost do to either rust, old age, and/or wreckage (including a 440 Six Pak/4-speed/Super Trak Pak '70 Charger R/T ) that he really doesn't feel bad when something somewhat common isn't kept in pristeen, as delivered condition. -
Mopar sacrilege?
Joe Handley replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the ideas behind some of it, but I'm not fond of the right hand drive, the paint scheme, and I'm not so sure how much I'd trust the way that front suspension arm and the heim joint for the steering is attached to the K-Member in all honesty. If it were mine, the exterior color would be much darker, maybe black or black with a light coat of candy red over it and the carpet would be about the same shade of red as the exterior now is. Engine wise, I'd probably have made it more of a multipoint EFI that looked like a traditional 4 2 barrel Weber Carb arrangement....but that's just me -
Restore or "Restify?"
Joe Handley replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree with Moparfan, if it's a tires but rare and/or numbers matching car, then a restoration would be in order, if it's a survivor......I'd just leave it be, but a well used (up;) ), garden variety, /6 or small block car should really be able to go either way without too many people getting upset though. As for Dave Zinn's '49 Dodge, I'd rip off the Chevy and Ford junk and look to go all Mopar on it. Maybe Volare or Diplomat Front Suspension (not sure if I'd use the Torsion Bars or Magnum Force's coilover conversion though, ZJ or WJ Grand Cherokee based rear suspension (it's a 4 link solid axle arragement ) then probably use a 5.2/5.9l V8 and 4 speed or late model Hemi/5speed auto out of a truck or LX car if I were going that far. -
That's going to be neat when it's finished, I like the exhaust tips too, but maybe do them in a matching flat white or some kind of "bare metal" finish ANybody else think that could be slightly modified for a reissue with either more 60's era appropriate or a more "Modern" Rat Rod/vintage "looking" rolling stock instead of the 70's era stuff

What's worse is working behind a RC Parts counter and having people that are more willing to pay to $30hr to have a $5 part installed than trying to do it them selves or let their kids do it for them selves HAHAHA, Nice and one of the more truthful things I've read!

sweet s10 WRECKED!!!
Joe Handley replied to Jared Roach's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't know, looks like that one held up pretty well to this impact. -
what do you get when.....
Joe Handley replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Eh, nothing a good limited slip can't fix, or maybe even a set of airshocks BTW, how about leaving it look like that with wider rims, more tire, and a monster pump gas 440 -
sweet s10 WRECKED!!!
Joe Handley replied to Jared Roach's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a shame, looks like that S10 was a pretty nice truck. How hard was it it to fold it up like that though? -
Thanks, that's what I thought, but wasn't totally positive!

I'll be honest, I tried watching a F1 race last week, ended up falling asleep within 30 minutes of turning on Speed Don't see how it's much more cutting edge than NA$CAR either, yea Cup cars are still carbed and use a solid rear axle, but some of the engine, aero, and efficency related technology seems to be more likely to make it into a production vehicle than anything F1 does.
-
Why does the US "need" a Formula 1 team? It seems like a bigger waste of money than NA$CAR.
-
I doesn't really take much to make a Ferrari look yuke though....just throuhg a Prancing Horse on some remotely automotive, goofy shape and there you go Don't care much for the Cayenne, buit I do kinda dig the Panamera, then again I kinda have a thing for 4dr hatchbacks

Real or Model or science fiction
Joe Handley replied to 70elcamino's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dad and I were looking at that at the Chicago Auto Show, he's thinking that with the shape of that nose piece and the extra narrow tires, it should steer pretty good if they have their math right. -
A real Zinger???
Joe Handley replied to tuffone20's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Did you listen to the video? He said that when he blipped the throttle, one of the tires lifted 1.5" off the ground and blew both head gaskets at the same time -
What kind of truck did he start with?
-
Dang, one look at that that could wipe out the whole darned association!
-
One difference though, that is a Buick motor, not a belly button Chevy motor
