Well, this has been a long, long week.......
Joe Handley replied to Joe Handley's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Thank you Espo. Mom's obituary is now online as of this morning. https://www.norriswalensegertfh.com/notices/Dixie-Handley -
I was looking for inspiration on Mom's brand new iPad while wating to go get dinner (Dad was talking to a the Daughter of one of Mom's childhood friends) and found that car, he and I both were digging it, but want to do something a bit more of my own. Noticed there were a lot of Larry Watson inspired cars out there, including the Blackbird.

Thanks guys! Have you ever run across suitable replacement wheels and tires for these kits? I'm digging the stock hub caps that came with this kit, but also have the '63 Stingray from this series that has the 6 bar hubcaps vs the knock-offs represented in those kits and I'm not a fan of them. I was wondering if there's any appropriately scaled rolling stock on either the aftermarket, in other kits (even if I have to mix scales), or even can be used from 1/32 slot cars that would look right on it?! Not sure if that one would be another Custom like this T-Bird, a Lowrider like I have planned for the 1/25 kit, maybe a period correct corner burner (not sure which period yet though), or something like the red Stingray road racer that Letty drove F&F8, I'm not sure yet and what I can find would likely determine the direction I'd go.

Bought this right after Christmas at Hobby Lobby, finally broke it out today for some needed mental therapy. From the first time I saw it months ago, I wanted to do a Custom with it and eventually bought one and set it to the side until today. I started by figuring out how much I could raise the wheel pegs on the chassis then moved on to sanding off the emblems, and fake quarter panel vents. After Dad and I got some dinner and watching some videos on YouTube when we got home, put things together enough to see how it looks. Think it's low enough? I haven't tried to clean up any of the mold lines and I'm hoping I got all of the trim sanded off, but need to prime it to know if I got everything I wanted cleared and where the mold lines are, seems that they're pretty faint and the white plastic hides things a little too well.

We have been (should see if he is ready for dinner, conr to think of it!) and we were talking about going to the Chicago Auto Show next month, haven't done been able to go together since 2014, and he can go to the model club meetings again. Might get to do other things together too when I'm not working. Thank you, we're doing our best right now. -

Due to issues in relation to her illnesses, Mom passed away Monday night. She had been not lucid and in the hospital due to an infection since early Thursday morning which was found to be MRSA related sepsis and pneumonia and had been put on a respirator before the weekend. By Sunday we found that her kidneys were not working and would need dialysis and if she wasn't breathing on her own by this weekend, she would need a trachiotomy as well. Since she hadn't come out of it fully, we made the incredibly difficult decision to not maker suffer any more if she hadn't come out of it by Monday morning. My Sister took some sick time (she has a ton of it) and I took a personal day (we're both very lucky, boss wise) and spent Monday there with Mom and Dad. Mom had become slighty lucid by noon and Dad explained the problems and she didn't want the above options either. We took her off life support after my Brother in Law got there (the Baby was with his Mom, not safe to bring her) and were standing around her as she passed, with Elvis Gospel Music playing on Mom's cell phone, strangely, as the final song on the album my Sister chose to play came to an end, Mom stopped breathing and was officially declared a few minutes later. My boss ok'd me to take my 3 bereavement days mid week and use more PTO for Friday as well as approved unpaid time off for Saturday (the leave from yesterday covers the lost pay as I only was to work a half day. I've been spending time with Dad this week and my Sister is going to be taking her's the first half of next week so she can do the same then. We're hot holding services here, but going to have a family gathering in her little home town in Iowa the weekend before my birthday since I have 2 older cousins with birthdays within 2 weeks of mine, thinking we should maybe include the little one even though it's a bit early (about 5 weeks later) since she'll be nearly 11mo by then and her first time seeing our side of the family........and just may be her first real road trip too! As we were leaving the hospital, my Sister let a relative know and within a few hours, one of my cousins who is one of the two mentioned above found out before we could call family and posted the below on FB.... We miss her, immensly and wish she still with her and with I was working with plans to go and visit her after I get off work in the next hour instead of typing this out, but considering the pain she was in, lost quality of life she has had which would have been even worse, we know that she is in a better place and no longer in pain.

One of my best friends is a Millenial who has multiple factory stick shift vehicles, one of which is a factory supercharged front driver (a Cobalt SS/SC) and the other is one of the last years you could buy a manual shift Silverado, as well as a Sportside, then get that gen with 4 wheel discs on a 1500, he then lowered it and added a Magnason blower to the 4.8l V8 he rebuilt for it.

RC Olds wagon with a twist
Joe Handley replied to Richard Bartrop's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That front end geometry is normal for R/C drift cars (1:1 drift cars too, IIRC) espo, especially that crazy steering angle built into that front suspension. So car as parts cost, there are places to get that stuff from that is c-h-e-a-p-!-!-!, but I'm not always sure about quality and hate having to swap bad parts out for good on my R/Cs. -

That would be freaky bodied up to look like Christine! -
Screwed up and tripped over equpment at the gym I just recently joined, which was 110% my fault and I'm irritated at myself for doing so. What also irritates me is that I went down HARD on my left leg then banged my right leg and arm hard enough that I'm expecting bruising on those and hoping to not need a visit to Urgent Care for my left leg and knee when they open tomorrow, but not one person there asked me if I was ok or needed anything, even just a hand getting off the floor!

I saw that on Jalopnik this moring and then heard as I was getting changed at the gym after work that they're doing the same when it comes to having kids. Seems that the median age for Millenials becoming parents is about 26y/o vs prior generations being closer to a 21y/o average when they started. Many decided to wait until they were more mature to bring kids into the world, want to say that the kids that had been asked wanted to be more finacially stable before having their own too. Can't fault them for that now??

Just read this in the comments on YouTube for the Ozzy and Elton John collaboration, took me by surprise!

AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Joe Handley replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yup, my initial thought was to raise the axle peg on the spindle to act like a dropped spindle, but if the body can be channeled a bit up front, might try that, if not both! -
AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Joe Handley replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Bill, never knew that was an issue! Think it would be possible to maybe trim something on the body or interior to effectively channel the front of the body over the chassis? Thanks on this guys, that area seemed off but couldn't figure out why! -
Picked these up today, mainly bought for an R/C project, but these are going to be "crossover" tools, since they will be used for model stuff too.

AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Joe Handley replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I should have said that more like "ProTouring", I'm going to use the Pegasus 17" aluminum barrels and tires with the kit Shelby wheels to get the low profile look as well as painting the engine with "Aluminum" paint to give the impression of one of these engines? https://www.shelbyengines.com/products/shelby-289-engine I'm also debating on getting some rmodern seats vs stock seats and get some Alcapulco Blue like below, But use the silver kit stripes as a nod to the Santa Fe Blue with Silver graphics from the Shelby Charger. -
AMT '67 Mustang/GT350 Stance Question
Joe Handley replied to Joe Handley's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That is always a possibility too, I can see that being on purpose! That what I was thinking might be going on, but wasn't sure if I was seeing things. Had that thought too, but since tbis is going to be more of a mild ProTouring build, the front end needs to come down some.
