Scratchbuilding vs. Kitbashing
Danno replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Precisely. And it is totally dishonest to claim that it is scratchbuilt. I vividly recall an incident at GSL a few years ago. There was a model that was claimed by its entrant to be entirely scratchbuilt. It was a nice model, but clearly based on an injection molded kit as ejector pin marks were still visible in some places and many parts were obviously taken from various common kits. But the entrant insisted it was "scratchbuilt" and it was quite the topic of derision. You have to wonder if someone trying to claim modified kit parts as "scratchbuilt" is trying to deceive others or trying to deceive himself. Scratchbuilt is what Gerald Wingrove did; what Dave Cummings does. Augie Hiscano's models were largely scratchbuilt but he never claimed the kit-based bodies were scratchbuilt. I dare say David Morton's semi and Mark D. Jones' Catherhams, as well as many other exceptional creations that are largely scratchbuilt have far more scratchbuilt content than most models and yet those builders claim only the parts they created from raw materials are "scratchbuilt" parts. And, Harry, you are right. There are some people who seem to think adding filler or additional pieces of plastic to kit parts qualifies as scratchbuilt. It does not. There are some people who seem to think creating some parts from raw materials makes the entire model 'scratchbuilt.' It does not. It's like saying a cubic zirconia is a diamond because it looks like one. -
Very nice!

1946 Buick Model 76C Roadmaster convertible
Danno replied to James Haines (dryplastic)'s topic in Model Cars
That is just incredible! As has been said, to turn a TKM into such a beautiful model was truly a masterful feat! Congratulations on such a beauty, and thanks for sharing it with us. More! Bring us more! Don't be a stranger. -
Crazy Elliott Sadler Crash
Danno replied to Railfreak78's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In many ways (trajectory, speed, etc.) very similar to Dale Earnhardt's crash yet such dramatically different outcome. Thank the COT, thank the Hahn Device, thank NASCAR's safety engineering! -
Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T (UPDATED 8/13/10)
Danno replied to TurboKitty's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks, Michelle. I was just looking for the base color beneath the Pure Gold. The final hue can be affected by the base color; darkened by a dark gray, lightened by white, etc. Yours was just the tone I want, so I thought I'd check on your base. My project has considerable bodywork, and is currently in light gray primer, so I'll be re-shooting it with white primer. The new Testors line does work on well on bare plastic (doesn't it?), contrary to everything we've ever known about traditional lacquers. Now I'm off to pick up some Pure Gold for my Coronet. Thanks for using your Charger as my color chip! (It's all about ME, you know.) LOL. -
Revell '68 Dodge Charger R/T (UPDATED 8/13/10)
Danno replied to TurboKitty's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Michelle, Great looking Charger! Your Testors Pure Gold finish is dead-on for a '70 Coronet project I have on the bench. What hue of primer did you use? White, light gray, dark gray, something else? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to seeing this one finished. -
No prob, Brian. That would make a great subject for this year's "Lights and Sirens Challenge." Let me know if I can help.

Whoa! FIRST POST! Welcome, Raoul.

Midway Chevrolet on Bell Road had a Synergy Green one on the lot ... for a VERY short time. I understand Chevy can't build them (all colors) fast enough; too much demand.

I'm still surprised he hasn't tried to Copyright the address numbers on his house! (Excuse me, I have to go to the front door and wait for the guy who's gonna serve the restraining order on me.)

Thanks, everyone! I'll be sure to post it again when it's done.

Danno replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Very, very nice, Alyn. BTW, I've been to the "summit" of Mt. Sunflower, too! LOL. -
Thanks for the comments, guys. It's not very often that a cop car gets positive attention! LOL.

Chevrolet Titan Day Cab Single Axle
Danno replied to RyanSilva's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That looks like a very good start, Ryan. I did the same thing ... but stalled out while seeking the "right" wheels (not the ones in the pic). Finally located a set of the proper Budd 2-holers. I gotta get back to this one. I'll be following along with your build! Thanks in advance for the inspiration. -
What's on my bench? Stuckey & Starbird's Lil Coffin. Guess I should get this one finished!

I haven't posted many builds around here. While moving some pix around today, I came upon these two shots of a recent build-for-the-shelf (not a contest build). This is a phantom Colorado State Patrol pursuit vehicle. Just my notion of what it could/should look like.

I like that 1:1 Elky, John! -
Keep these coming, Jairus! Ken's work truly is timeless. Great ideas then, great ideas now.

All this cheap fawning and gushing praise. Sheeesh! I see one critical fault that no one has chosen to acknowledge while heaping lavish kudoes on Mr. Keck's Tsunami. Where's the constructive criticism? I mean, where's the honesty? Is it absent because he's a master? Is it absent because he's in a clique (or 'click,' as it would usually be spelled)? Is it absent because he has a posse of "buddies"? Is it absent because no one can really figure out that last name or whether he's really from Arizona or California? Or is it absent because he's folically-challenged? What's causing this? Unlike everyone else who is afraid to be brutally honest, I'll man up and point out the obvious fault: Hey, Steve, that dude's dusty! Bwahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Ppbbbbbbbbbbbbbffffffffffffffffffttttttttttt! [DISCLAIMER: For the sake of anyone reading this who is logically-challenged in any form of cerebral processing, this entire post was satirical and delivered in a style intended to be interpreted as purely tongue-in-cheek, to state it in colloquial terms. In other words, just kidding!] PS: Seriously, seriously nice build my friend! I mean, seriously.

It is great to see the degree of committment to accuracy Moebius has and the efforts they are taking to get it right! When have you ever seen any other kit manufacturer vet its products with the consuming public this early in their game? And, then go back to revise the product/process to make adjustments or corrections based on the consumer feedback? Purely winners in my book, and Dave (with a little help from Art) has already pre-sold at least two to four kits each (Hudson 4, Chrysler 2, Lonestar 2) to me, just based on my desire to reward their desire to produce such accurate, well-engineered, desirable adult model car kits. It truly is a win-win.

For you, I'll take requests! LOL. It'll be there, John! Glad you like it; that's quite a compliment for me. -
Uh, yeah. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Parodies of a parody. Ahhh, Art imitates Life. Gotta love it.
