  1. Maybe kit manufacturers should adopt pastry-type window boxes. You could then see the contents rattling around inside the box. You can print all sorts of notes and disclaimers on a box, and there will still be people who will be caught by surprise. I am reminded of a long thread in this forum criticizing decades of boxart trends, so what's a manufacturer to do?
  2. IIRC there's still one of the four I missed. I've been hoping they'd rerun the series.
  3. Several years ago some Guild models were displayed at the MassCar and Classic Plastic shows.
  4. I was reminded of the fellow who scratchbuilds R/C trucks in aluminum sheet over handmade forms, only to allow the bodywork to get beat up when put through their paces. The damage is part of the process, I guess.
  5. Apparently this is why the builder likes using the clay.
  6. This diorama is not my mine, but I recently rediscovered this thread after losing track of it for a couple of years. Perhaps the discussions can be of some inspiration to you. Note each thread spans a decade or more, over several-dozen pages of build photos and discussion. https://www.finescalerr.com/smf/index.php?topic=1983.0 https://www.finescalerr.com/smf/index.php?topic=2257.405
  7. Looks like a Chevy Suburban on the boxart, which isn't included in the kit. Or anywhere in 1:24?
  8. If the plastic is acetate I wouldn't soak it in any case.
  9. Wind tunnel testing has always involved the use of models, actually, only a bit larger.
  10. Try these sites for ideas: https://www.customcarchronicle.com/ https://kustomrama.com/wiki/
  11. I thought a lot of interiors were white.
  12. Did you miss the smiley? It was a joke.
  13. Simple solution: mold kits in polyethylene plastic so they may be recycled with water and soda bottles. ? Municipal recycling centers in my area can't recycle styrene or ABS plastics
  14. I saw one at a military vehicle show in Rhode Island over 15 years ago. It has the look of mounting a sedan body on a 4x4 truck chassis. Here's a Volvo sedan for comparison: https://classiccarcatalogue.com/VOLVO_1940.html
  15. Had it been mentioned there was to be a short run of this kit? This is the first I've heard of that.
  16. A classic Disney film included some creative footage of model kits. (see 5:24 mark)
  17. In OK GO's video for their song "This Too Shall Pass", a Rube Goldberg machine is kicked off by the rolling of a diecast pickup truck emblazoned with the logo of a sponsor into a line of dominoes.
  18. The old mantra: Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
  19. This topic has come up numerous times over the decades, and it usually gets shot down in discussions for being too complicated. If a manufacturer can make it work, more power to them. Does regrinding styrene change the properties of the plastic?
  20. And people sometimes look at us funny for paying $100 for a model. ?
  21. I saw the lineup in the news that evening. I wish I had known earlier.
  22. Nice pictures. I hope more people here can post old pictures of car shows.
