  1. Most aluminum can be annealed.
  2. The Meng kit represents the 2008-2010 model years.
  3. Picked up a Meng F350 and Revell F350 today when my trip to buy a Revell 83 Hurst Olds failed. The Revell F350 is my favorite kit ever, just so many options. The Meng F 350 could replace the Revell if the price was better. The new decals with this release of the Revell F 350 will go perfect with a long time project that I've been working on,
  4. I just got this kit today and really like it a lot. Even with the glaring mistakes on the fender badge decal, exhaust system and rear axle. Another small issue I've noticed is that the rear lug on the floor pan for the running board is too tall. Meng also missed some details like the tailgate step, bed floor cross members and they could have gave us a ball mount for the receiver hitch. But working hood hinges and a pair of gas struts to display the hood open is a nice touch. I really don't mind the steering and rims not being accurate. Mine will be converted to a dually. Over all I think it was worth the money.
  5. Thanks for the pics, it's nice to see what decals are in the kit.
  6. Assembled engines available to purchase ready to add your accessories to and drop in your vehicle are considered crate engines, from stock to performance, OEM to after market. In the industrial setting the are considered a repower package. I always used the term bonus engine for kit engines that are an option to the stock engine. Off the top of my head I can't remember which kits came with the best bonus engine, I've been doing commercial type vehicles for the last 18 years or so. I do like the engine that comes in AMTs 66 Chevy II pro street. Nice detail. I always liked the AMT kits that offered 2 engine choices like the 72 Nova. Not the most accurate and detailed but usually you got a small block and a big block. The Lindburg 34 Ford trucks I believe came with a display stand for the spare engine, so it could be said to represent a crate engine. There were a few kits that came with this setup.
  7. Is anyone offering a V8 Powerstroke decal to replace the V10 Triton decal for the fender badge on the Meng F350?
  8. Went out to try and score a Revell 83 Hurst Olds. That mission failed so I splurged... The Meng F350 will become a dually that will pull my Galaxie Limited 38' 5th wheel sprint car trailer. And the Revell F350 will go great for a project that I've been working on for years, I can't get over the irony of the new Revell decals.
  9. Local hobby shop only got two in and both were gone before I got there. Ebay seller has 4 and brick and mortar store got 2... Another local shop had no idea they were even released yet.
  10. Pennsylvania has the hit and miss testing as well. It has to do with the actual concentration of pollution in an area. It acts like fog and stays put. In my area Pittsburgh and its surrounding counties have much more pollution than my county. The polluted counties get testing and we don't. I'm fine with that since I'm lucky and live in a county where I don't have to deal with it! It is a pain, along with all the other time consuming privileges and expenses of being afforded the privilege of driving. Of course Pennsylvania loves their big gas tax that ironically pays for all of the orange barrels that lead to endless detours and idling time that leads to more fuel use. In my area the orange barrel contractors are so permanent that they list in the yellow pages, using the address of the empty lot along the road where they set up camp. I'll tell you if you design a new guard rail shop it to PENNDOT they love upgrading them, though they still won't replace the ones that cause decapitations. Those it seems they are happy with... All of my non exempt vehicles would pass emissions testing with no problem. Modern cars for the most part run very poorly when they get to the point that they will fail the non invasive emissions tests. Really in a state like PA the emissions and safety inspection could be combined into one sticker and one visit to the mechanic. Anything that isn't OBD II is visual inspection only on the emissions system which is already included in the state safety inspection. Now the diesel pick up enthusiasts in the non testing areas are canning their own worms, that will be a big mess when it's opened.
  11. Revells online store isn't even listing it as available yet.
  12. Worked like a charm. take a look at his kit prices, it looks like he prices them at what he would charge to part them out. $300 for the AMT 84 GMC and it's not the fall guy version. He sells the tires alone for $30. I need a grill for that kit but at his prices I'll either scratch build a custom or buy a new kit from the local hobby shop for just a few dollars more.
  13. Thank you! Sometimes I do look to see what he has available, most times I don't want to sift through his overpriced data dump.
  14. I realize it's an old thread but a few points on the way PA does titles, only the motoring public pays for the service. No tax money required to run all the DMV storefronts. I once needed to title a race car trailer in Ohio, they needed an unladen weight and gross weight. Apparently you can make up a number for gross but they need an exact unladen weight. The DMV worker said I had to go to a certified scale. I ask where do I find one? Her response was "I don't know". so I went to a feed mill right down the street and got it weighed on their state certified scale for the unladen, took the slip back to the DMV and was told "no good". I ask why and she says it's not certified!(all pertinent scale info was on the slip) This went on 5 times at different types of scales. Even asked a Highway Patrol Officer, he thought any state certified scale would be sufficient, but not to the Hubbard Truck World Plaza DMV. Then I saw A BIG SIGN OVER THE CAT SCALES AT A TRUCK STOP THAT SAID "CERTIFIED" bingo, there's my sign......... I'm glad not to have that breed of ineptitude in PA. The same process in Pa only requires a state certified inspection mechanic to sign off on the weights. Also there is no need for a courier fee in PA if you aren't in a hurry. The notary can mail it in and it will be mailed back to your address. You can also take the notarized paper work to your state representative and he or she will deliver and return the item from Harrisburg. Avoid notaries that give you no choice. Liquor stores, well they are like the OH and New Jerkey DMV, useless and a tax burden. As far as emissions testing on OBD II vehicles many scan tools have an emissions test function, even cheap scanners. it's a good way to avoid being ripped off. As long as these vehicles are functioning within their operating parameters they will pass. The evaporative system is a very important part of clean emissions, your fuel is evaporating constantly even when the engine isn't running. It is the easiest part of the emissions system to maintain. I completely agree with the original post, they can't realize the benefit of the testing program if it causes excess idling time. When these systems are introduced the infrastructure needs to be in place. Some legislators in PA want to eliminate emissions testing because the vast majority of cars on the road pass.
  15. I see 69 F 100's with the Moebius style mirrors as well as the style you show, tripod mirrors and a few different styles of west coast mirrors. In my experience "base" models could have options added and still be base. Base was just the very least the truck could come with. But if you ordered the "base" model with other mirrors you still had a "base" model since there is no package name that I'm aware of for a "base" model with upgraded mirrors.
  16. The only things I wish they had done differently is make the grills separate pieces and it would have been nice as a t top version. Hopefully some photo etch sets with different grill and badge options will be offered. With a resin hood, resin tail lights, resin bench seat and photo etch badging a lot of different years and trim levels could be represented. Add in the v6 from a T Type converted to naturally aspirated, small block Chevy to represent a 305( I believe the 305 was available in Canada) and all the bases are covered, except for the euro nose. Just a little work and the stock engine can be made to represent the diesel option.
  17. Looks really good. The cab looks to be done perfectly and the bed looks great so far and fits the age well. In my opinion those are the best looking crew cabs ever built.
  18. Back when I was turning wrenches on trucks in the 90's I don't remember any trucks having anything but black radiators. I think black is appropriate simply because radiator shops paint them black when they build new units or repair old. I wouldn't think the rads would be in place for chassis paint. Chassis paint is usually put on thick and if the rads were painted at the same time there would be paint clogging the fins.
  19. Got these on Ebay. I was looking for the F 350 so the other two were a bonus.
  20. Yes but they used to be way down the road towards Mars, not far from Mars High School. That was around 1997 before the massive building boom along 228. The shop seemed lot smaller then, but it was packed full just like the current shop. I first found it when I had a job delivering truck parts for a diesel injection shop, that sure was a good way to find hobby shops all over the region. Sadly most shops I found back then are gone now. In later years I worked for a contractor as a carpenter assembling Ryan Homes house packages in the area, mostly the developments along 228. That job led me to discover their new shop. I do agree Hobby Express is excellent, they usually have exactly what I went in for as well as everything I didn't know I wanted until I saw it. There have been times that I was on a budget so I skipped what I originally wanted for an impulse buy.
  21. I'm glad this was brought back. It's a nice build. I've been looking for paint scheme ideas for my 38" Galaxie 5th wheel trailer.
  22. I buy parts sometimes but only for realistic prices. One kit I like a lot is the Revell/Monogram F 350 Dually. I have bought glue bombs of this kit and needed parts but have realized If I don't need more than one of the same part then it's cheaper to buy a sealed kit than it is to replace two small parts from ebay parts sellers. Sad part is that the upcoming reissue won't change the asking prices for parts, it will just give the sellers more stock. Some sellers are selling parts for kits that are still available like the 77 GMC wrecker, and they want $15 + for wheels and tires. To me if a seller wants that much for a single part or sub assembly to a kit that sells for $20 then I'll just buy the whole kit. Right now there is this same wheel tire set with bad chrome listed at $27.99, They are molded in orange so are an older release but What issue date matters when the sprues are cut and the parts can never be added to an unbuilt kit to make a complete unsealed original? Sure they have the Good Year lettering but in my opinion that doesn't justify the bloated price... I need an AMT 84 GMC grill but refuse to pay $15 from ebay parts sellers so I'll end up buying a new kit of that as well. When you figure in the $15 asking price and the jacked up shipping costs it ends up being only a few dollars difference Ebay in my opinion is the driving force that causes insane kit prices. It used to be that unsold kits either sat on shelves for years or were sent to liquidation stores like Big Lots etc.. Back then it was common to buy a 10 year old kit for the same price or less than a new release of a similar type kit. These days ebay sellers gooble up kits to sit on until store shelves are empty and online retailers start selling out then they triple the price and wait. My first ebay account was banned by ebay after I made a complaint about a seller on their forums. It was because the seller was claiming kits that were for sale in walmart stores were RARE and was listing them at $15+ when the kits on the store shelves were plentiful and listed at $8 and change. My irritation was the fact that the entire listing was full of references to the kits being RARE, DISCONTINUED, VERY HARD TO FIND, VINTAGE etc. None were true claims. Also ebayers can use multiple accounts to jack up their feedback. Back when you could actually see who bought an item you could also find out whether the paid or backed out. A few years ago I bid on the Lindburg Dodge truck and trailer kit but was outbid so I looked at other listings and purchased a different item. Then the seller from the original listing sent me a second chance offer to get the kit at the price that the shill bidder offered, I declined then looked at the shill bidders bid history. That person had bid on only a half dozen or so auctions in 2 years of existence and all but one bid was with this seller. I informed ebay of this scheme but alas the seller is still active and so is the shill account, with new bids.
  23. I'm super excited about this kit. As a G body Olds fan this is great, I wish it was a 78, 79 or 80 but this one will do nicely. There were also rumors that another version was measured as well.
  24. My sunny day driver 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Base. It came with a 3.8 v6 but has been swapped to a small block Chevy This was the engine bay prior to the swap
