Decals Under Clear Coat- Yes or No?
Marc @ MPC Motorsports replied to Casey's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Every model I have built to date has decals under the clear coat. My experience only applies to Tamiya TS-13 clear over Tamiya lacquers, Testors lacquers and HOK (the REAL HOK!)airbrushed lacquers and Keith Marks and Fred Cady decals. The first thing is to coat the decals with Microscale Liquid Decal Film before cutting and applying the decals. Second, use Microscale Micro Set (with the Blue label) when applying the decals. Just my theory, but the Liquid Decal Film adds a barrier and the Micro Set helps the decal adhere to the painted surface. After letting the decals cure for at least 24 hours, you are ready to apply the TS-13 Clear. Your first three or four coats should be light mist coats only, waiting 20-30 minutes between coats. It is very important to do mist coats as this paint is fairly "hot" and will cause your decals to lift and wrinkle if heavy coats are applied too soon. If you are successful to this point, you can apply a few wet coats of TS-13, again waiting 20-30 minutes between coats. After the wet coats, let the paint fully cure and polish as you normally would. If all of this work is a complete success, you should have results like these. Good luck!! -
1969 Cobra Formal Roof Motor City Resin Casters

Nice paint!!! I have one of those in my collection. My plan is to graft the AMT Talladega nose to it and build a phantom Talladega coupe. One of these days... -
Modeler's ADD kept this one from being completed in 2009. I actually finished this one last weekend but just took pics today. Bob Downie is right. Final assembly IS a cure for Modeler's ADD. With this build and the Falcon, I have matched my output total from 2009!!! Looks like 2010 could be a good year. Enjoy!!!

Nothing "plain" about this one!!! Great job as always!!!

Marc @ MPC Motorsports replied to Marc @ MPC Motorsports's topic in Model Cars
Yes, they are Pegasus 23" stepped sleeves. I polished them with my Dremel and some Wenol polish to shine them up a bit. -

I got mine Thursday. It was mailed in a Priority Mail flat box and it about the same size as a Tamiya or Aoshima box. -

The GSL is on my bucket list. But with my oldest daughter headed for Dental School this summer and my youngest eighteen months away from college herself. It will probably be 2015 at the earliest before I am financially able to attend. -
I would have bid on that one had I caught the GTX hood. I have this from Bandit Resins to convert one of my MPC 1971 Road Runner builders. I'm getting ready to order Keith Marks' 1971 GTX decal sheet for this one.

Testors vs Johan Rambler Pro Street
Marc @ MPC Motorsports replied to drodg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks, Pat. There were four kits in this series, AMX, SC/Rambler, '71 Cuda and the '70 442. All had the white metal wheels and lo pro tires but only the two AMC's had the photo etch. Testors later released the Johan Comet but it did not come with the metal wheels and was shipped in a normal model kit package. -
Testors vs Johan Rambler Pro Street
Marc @ MPC Motorsports replied to drodg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The photo etch came in the Testors HSO version of this Johan kit. Both the SC/Rambler and the AMX in this series came with a small photo etch fret of emblems. SC/Rambler photo etch AMX photo etch -

Anybody have this kit yet? The owner of my LHS told me that it comes with 20" chrome reverse wheels and baby moons! -
Looking good, Ron. If anyone can pull that one off, you can!

Amen, brother! I love the old vintage styrene and my collection reflects that. Probably 95% of my collection are vintage kits, reissues of vintage kits, or resin copies of vintage kits. Regardless of their value as a collectible, I intend to build every one of them. Watch for pics of the finished model in the coming days. Thanks!

A rare, white styrene, MPC 1970 Dodge Charger R/T annual. Had to remove the decals with Easy Lift Off. Only one stock front seat as it was built as a race car. Lightly glued and never painted.

Great find!!! I love all the old vintage kits and combining them with bits and pieces from new kits often gets you the best of both worlds. I'll be watching this thead for future updates. -

With all the drama that has infected this forum, how ever many mods there are hasn't been enough. A GOOD mod or two would have "nipped it in the bud", to quote this guy. -

Hobby Lobby
Marc @ MPC Motorsports replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hobby Lobby is headquartered here in Oklahoma. Model selection does vary from store to store. That said, they typically carry most of the current Revell line with a smattering of issues from Round 2 and Lindberg. They also carry a select few Tamiya and Aoshima kits. The ones near me have the Tamiya Nissan GT-R kit which would be a great deal with a 40% off coupon. They also have a good selection of military and avaiation model kits if you are into that. Other model related items include Testors paints (including Model Master and One Coat lacquers), Paasche and Iwata airbrushes, air compressors, Alumilite resin kits, Excel tools and a small assortment of K&S tubing. Thinking outside the box, go to the beading department for fine gauge wire and small zipper bags for storage. Krylon paints are available if that is your choice too. Some folks use embossing powder instead of flocking. You can get it there too. Just stroll thru the crafts department and see what is available. I don't buy many current kits these days, but I'm always there for the Testors paints, CA glues, airbrush supplies and other miscellaneous stuff with the 40% off coupon. -
Beautiful build!!! Thanks for sharing.
