  1. Check out this Jewel I picked up today at the local hobby shop. I'm gonna build me a gasser! Soon as finish the salt flat car... the tinted glass will be used on the re-build as well as some of the other parts from the new kit.
  2. Well she spent the night in the "Dunk Tank" and here's the result. Down to the basecoat... Still alot of work ahead but I hope it progresses rapidly. Thanks for looking...
  3. Thanks, yeah I don't want it to get out of hand. I was doing some researching on salt flat studebakers and they are some pretty detailed builds. I like the idea of BMF, not something I was thinking about but around the windows I think will be a nice detail. What engine/trans combo should I go with?
  4. (Edited) Sorry my previous post was saved and I posted that somehow. Here is a pic of the car apart.
  5. Believe it or not this was a contest winner in 1993 it placed first in the custom class. I want to restore it and compete in the Customs class this year for it's 25th year anniversary. It's had a rough 25 years but remains original. I want to reinvent this and make it current. I am open for suggestions Thanks, and I look forward to everyone's input...
  6. I don't think it's showed up at our local Hobby Lobby yet but it won't be long, I'm sure they'll have it.
  7. Exactly! And before Revell's 69 Camaro came along the Monogram 69 was my Go to 69 I built a many... Rampage, High Roller and all the rest. Even though I don't build them anymore I still appeciate their effort. Not to steer the thread down another road but I'd love to see Round 2 re-issue the Rockin-Roller 57 with the flip front. I liked that kit. with tinted glass and new decals that would be cool.
  8. Thanks Snake45 It's interesting to see that much love thrown at one terrible kit.. It's nicely built. Do you have ideas for other kits that fit the "Do your best" challenge?
  9. Thanks bud, Yeah I know there is all kinds of stuff wrong with the Monogram car but like the Amt car it builds up great. I don't get too wrapped up in the flaws just build the darn thing and be happy. Our club is proposing a build challenge. "Do your best with what you have to work with" theme. I think mine will be that Mpc 69 Camaro convertible... yuk! I can make it nice I think...
  10. Beautiful! Love your work! T.V. and Film cars are great builds.
  11. No kidding? That is cool history... I'm gonna build it with printed decals and clean unraced body without damage and light weathering. I can't quite make out what the lettering says on some of it. Can you tell me what is on the trunk and roof and maybe what other decals/markings on it were?
  12. Here are some of my Monogram 57 projects... when you get passionate for a certain kit it's hard to stop building them, for me anyway... I know there are far better kits out there and I build them too. But I still love the first one I ever built...
  13. "Rapid Roy that stock car boy he's too much to believe he's always got extra pack of cigarettes rolled up in his T-shirt sleeve. He got a tattoo on his arm that says Baby! and another one that just says Hey! But every Sunday afternoon he is a dirt track demon in a '57 Chevrolet!" I'm totally inspired to build this model for myself.... I love Jim Croche and love Rapid Roy, Can you give me details of the car that you built back in the day? That is an Awesome build! It's a long shot but do you still have it?
  14. Build this 57 for Nostalgic purposes guys because you built it as a kid. Personally, I like Monogram's 57 1:24 the best because I built a shelf full of them when I was a kid. I still build them now even though it is way wrong proportionally. The bonus glass is cool to me because it's for Gasser style builds, which is the way I'd build the car anyway. Don't worry about the proortions being wrong it still builds up nice and has lots of potential. I seen one at a contest that took best in show back in 93 even if it's wrong it still gets the point across. Anyway, the decals and the whitewall slicks are enough for me to buy it. I appreciate Round 2 for bringing back these old kits and making them new agian.
  15. Our Club challenge this month is anything black.. It's kinda a tribute to Henry Ford... one of our menbers sent this to me. Not what I was thinking when the challenge was announced but it reminds of these builds.
  16. 92 Formula... custom printed door decals... parts painted and assembled by my son.
  17. My son is really starting to get the hang of the modeling thing. He built this Pontiac to represent the movie car. I've given him alot of advice over the 5 years he's been building and I'm glad to see it paying off for him. He's 14 so I feel like he's only gonna get better with age.
  18. I agree I liked the Jo-han kit too. But I can tell you that the tooling is completely fresh but the messurements are based on another kit they have with the same proportions. If I say too much more it's gonna give it away and I'm gonna be in trouble lol.
  19. It's already been 2 and a 1/2 years and product development is what takes the longest. The latest update I have is that the company had two new releases in front of the Maverick/Comet and one of those just got released this past summer. It's probably still a ways out but I hope it's not 5 years away.
  20. Good News guys, this kit is on it's way. A couple years ago a friend of mine sent a certian company the platform for the all new tooling for a Comet/Maverick. I can't say the company here but when the promotion is ready they will be announcing the release.
  21. I would love to build it for you but my problem is I wouldn't want you to be disappointed in the out come. I don't know how particular you are and modelers are gonna be hesitant to build for someone who they don't know what their expectations are. I would take it on if I knew you would be happy with the result. I've been building for 30 plus years but I'm still critical of my work sometimes. Unlike some I don't value my time as a model builder. To me the enjoyment is reward or payment enough. I'm particularly connected to this story and the truck because my first ride at 14 was a 1960 Chevy Apatche long bed 327/300 3 on the tree. Got my license in the truck in 1989. I read too many car magazines and decided to do a frame off restoration at 17, I dismantled the truck and never got back together. A bad choice on my part but I was neive and thought I had better support and people that would help me. I was wrong... I've moved on from it. But I've always wanted to find one and do it right. As for the model, the 62 is an annual and could be achieved as an accurate 1.1 build. I have a 60 amt annual. I've never built it. I like the Amt short bed with modern tool. I've turned it into a longbed and have built several over the years.
  22. Thanks guys, the So-cal HHR is impressive. I'd like to see it done with a resin kit. It would be ambitious for sure. I'd be interested in how the RMR model's HHR compares to the Jimmy Flintstone. The JF is pretty soft for resin but it's all molded as one peice. The RMR has seperate parts... grill, headlights, etc... and comes with the chassis. The windows are also thinner and wouldn't require the work to open them as the JF does. Both kits are based on the Road Rippers 1:26 scale sound machines toy. I've been doin alot of research on it. So now I'm cleaning up the mold lines and gettin the openings smoothed out. As for the tail lights, I've drilled them out and I'll be adding linses to them. Still pondering on color choices and schemes. til then...
  23. I seen a picture on the internet about ten years ago of a Revell 2006 HHR it was a real picture of a red factory HHR. I was excited that revell was gonna kit the model but it never came. I think the picture was photoshopped to look like Revell boxart. I would think if they did the PT Cruiser then why not the HHR? I'd buy one or two.
  24. Hey everyone... been awhile since I started a new project for the forum. This little HHR intrested me due to the fact that just over a year ago... I was gonna buy a real one but when I went to look at it.. it was in poor condition and looked better in pictures. I credit that HHR to me finally buying my Chevy nova. Because I had the money saved up for the Nova but if I would've bought the HHR then I wouldn't have the Nova. Anyway about the model....This Jimmy Flintstone resin kit was given to me. So now I just need to narrow down a theme. I was thinking that I'd keep it somewhat simple keeping it Curbside but adding interior to it and removing the "piggy bank" style windows. So far it hasn't exactly been as simple because the donor kit (the PT Cruiser) is not a direct fit. The wheelbase is different and the interior had to be shortened and narrowed. I'd like to add that I did a search on the fourms and I'm officially the first to post an HHR on the site... there's probably a reason for that. Lol! I am open for suggestions on theme and styles... I need some help because I've done some google searching and I can't decide which I like best. It's a bit overwhelming with all the options... Thanks, and I look forward to everyone's input...
