I don't know how I've missed these wheels all my life but with a little searching It seems I'm the only one living under a rock for the past 40 years. Although not my style I do have a new found respect for the Spyder wheel. And I think I'm gonna round up a set now for the build. It's been an eye opener for sure. 309881-500-0.webp 309881-500-0.webp

Thanks guys that's good advice Mike. The truck has a 400 badge on the fenders and the big block fits nicely. I thought about using the blazer frame and extending it but this plate chassis is really the nicest thing about this model so l'm gonna use it. That 68 has come a long way! that one was definitely worth saving! And that old wheel ad is cool too. Never seen that wheel before may have to get that Trans Am now. Thanks again for the input guys it helps me with the prosess, it really does.

Today was about smoothing the pits and getting all the glue boogers off. With all the parts roughed in I topped it off with some primer to see how bad it actually is and it's bad. I'm gonna have way more body work to do than I first thought. Joy. Joy. On a lighter note the chassis is in good shape. Even though it is a plate chassis I'd like to add as much detail as possible. Any suggestions on how to make a plain chassis look more busy? I've desided to put a big block in the truck, the engine isn't shown on the box. The engine with the kit is weird looking. The transmission looks more like a transfer case to me and the engine is tall and narrow. I want to keep it period correct so I'm gonna put the 454 from the 70 chevelle in it. Also I've been around cars my whole life and I've never seen a real life set of wheels that are on this truck do they even exist? So I'm gonna use another set of wheels more realistic but simular to the boxart. Thanks for looking and stay tuned, I'm about to roll up my sleeves on this one...

Thanks, that's what I thought too. I really want the truck to be recognized that's why I'm so strict about the box art build on this one. When I bought the truck it had the original motorcycle but I built it differently than the box so I bought the current one available to go with the build to match the box too.

I promised I'd start a thread on my 1970 chevy long bed restoration. So here it is. I bought this a few years ago and I always wanted to build it as box art. So with the help of a loyal member on here, I obtained the decals for this 70's custom paint scheme. And I began the restoration last month. This was a build up I'm guessing from the mid seventies. At first glance it appeared to be a clean build and easy restoration... l was wrong. The builder was not easy on the gluing prosess and from the looks of it got his steps out of order. (He painted it after he put it together). If nothing else it's a reminder to go easy on the glue if you are a beginner. Glue is your friend but don't take advantage of him because he can become your worst enemy! Lol! I managed to get the paint off but will require alot of sanding and smoothing out the glue fingerprints.

This is a 12th scale vette as a Gasser that one of my fellow club members built awhile back, Hope you don't mind me sharing it here. If nothing else it will give you more inspiration. Nice work on yours so far! -
79 Z/28 rebuild still in progress
disconovaman replied to Plastic_Passion's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That's nice, It reminds me of one I built. I never cared for the T-tops so I filled mine in everytime I built the kit. Here is a stock replica I built without T-tops. This must be the year of the camaro alot of camaro builds going on right now. -
35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20
disconovaman replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Oh yeah l'm glad to see that color go with all the choices avaliable today it would be tough not to strip it and paint it something more suitable. When I first started painting I used non metallic colors because I didn't trust myself. I think I used that color on a revell car one time. My uncle would brush paint his models and I was always amazed at how smooth and glossy the paint was. There was never any brush strokes, no dirt or fibers, and they looked like they were dipped in a bucket. The thickness was more than it probably should've have been but still looked darn good for a brush job. -
Nice color choices and excellent wheels for the build. These kits build up nicely for sure. I have two myself that I need to get back on.

35 Yr. Old Monogram 69 Camaro SS-Now "Under Glass"-07/20
disconovaman replied to mustang1989's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I just got rid of the Rampage car after I robbed the decals. I also robbed the decals from the Hijacker years ago as I want to build that car in Revell form as well. Also the white street machine and the other molded in red street machine. If memory serves There were two red, two yellow, and one off white versions.... The Red street machine with CAMARO Z28 decals. The Red High Roller series one of three, the 70 Chevelle and the Chevy luv were the other two. The White one shown above... I've built one of these boxart themed Revell as well but I got rid of it accidentally so It's back on list agian. The yellow cars were of course the Rampage (my favorite) and the most recent release with blue and black scalp decals. Did I get them all?... if not please correct me. -

This was the go to 69 camaro before the 1990 revell kit. I built many and I always loved the simplicity of the kit. Many different versions of the kit have been issued including a 4X4 version (HIJACKER) I have slowly been building the boxart monogram vesions using the revell kit. http://s3.amazonaws.com/s3.racingjunk.com/ui/7/39/44530397-268.jpg -
1960 Chevrolet Apache 10
disconovaman replied to ranma's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Awesome! My first ride was a 60 Chevy Apache long bed, 327/300 3 speed on the colum 390 gears! Fond memories of that one. Got it when I was 14 I loved that truck. I have a few of these built myself. Nice job on it so far. The back of the cab was white on custom cab trucks which is what the model is. But this looks good too. And the top of the tailgate was turquoise from the factory as well. I'm not judgmental just partial to these old trucks. This is a very nice kit to build. Also I hear that it is on the re-release list and may have the soapbox dirby car in the kit this time. -
Lookin forward to seeing this one in paint, nice transformation on an otherwise basic model. The Polar lights Herbie VW is my favorite for building a stock replica. But I remember a multiple peice body 1/24 scale kit molded in red or black that is hard to find now anybody remember the company who produced it?

Der Ice Cream Bus

3rd worst builder? Then there must not be any bad modelers on the site. Your only as good as your last build is how I'd sum up my own modeling experiences. Sometimes you're your own worst critic. I'd be proud to display it if and when you get tired of looking at it. Lol! -
I like the concept of matching characters with their cars, and I always thought about which type of cars characters from one of my favorite shows drove pryor to the apocalypse, The Walking Dead. It would be fun to pair cars or trucks with certain characters from that show. Actually I thought about building some exsisting cars from the show too. Like the silver GTO Judge in the Chase scene that gets rolled over. I thought about how all the bad guys who died probably became "Walkers" because most were hit with body shots when killed by Rick and the other officers. There are some other vehicles that are cool as well, a 64 Galaxie low rider and the 66 ford farm truck. And you can't forget the 09 Challenger that lends it's tires to the bond-fire after it's seen leaving Atlanta.

Thanks cobraman & Intmd8r I'm going out to buy another one of these soon and I'm crossing my fingers that I get one of the green ones. I've got an idea brewing for it....

I just realized that I have yet to build one of these buses with the engine on the inside of the body. I have another one in the works and my plan is too have a VW pancake engine in the back. But here is the "Sunken Treasure" in case anyone missed it.

Thanks AC, yeah I didn't know what to do with this kit as I'm not really interested in building vettes too much. I have a few project ideas such as the Con-air vette and the vette from the Covette song. Anyways, I sure some guys will be glad I didn't go with this as a build choice...lol! I'm at a loss for words here...

I'm hoping to see a resin company cast the fiberglass door caps. I had a car for sale or trade (SS Nova) about 7 years ago and one guy contacted me with a trade for his Bronco it was pretty cool, White, full fiberglass body, the door caps were molded with the body, Nice lift, 4X4, little 347 small block... I really thought hard about trading I kinda wish I'd had now. My stepdad owned 2... I was too young to remember them vividly but I've seen pictures. One was light met. green with the white stripes, and one was deep purple with white stripes. His first wife rolled the green one so he bought the purple one right after that. I'm gonna add this kit to my collection soon.

Awe Man, you scored! This will make an Awesome oob build! What I want to do is take a yellow one and kit bash it with a green one using the green body etc... and paint the inside of the green body gold or maybe one shot lacquer lime ice for more metallic then clear coat the outside. Use the rest of the "Cat" on the yellow body. Build it to where the body flips back to reveil the clear floor and stuff. The decals from the Dirty Donnie Vantasy kit may be an interesting concept on the clear green body. Just an Idea I had rolling around the ole think tank...lol!

Somewhat mocked-up minus the side pipes and any other details. Factory Phantom would've been killer if the torque thrusts were a factory option. Along with factory rollbars and 5 point harness. And a 500 hp big block... Yeah man!
