  1. I beleive it would do well because 25 yo guy would build a donk version (maybe?) and older guy would do police cruisers, taxi service, fire cheif, FBI, ATF, etc... etc... Just throwing it out there, 77- 91 caprice 4door with opening trunk extras included... luggage, police gear, and speaker system. How about a K9 unit cage for the back seat while you're at it? You could do a Demo durby version, a bad guy get away car version, or how about a weathered rusty well used version? lets face it guys, a true die hard model car builder would buy and build these types of subjects because True modelers are not just looking to build dream car/ fantasy/ wishlist cars. I set down at my bench daily to glue plastic together and frankly I get bored seeing the same stuff get issued. I try to build less mainstream cars and trucks... Do something different for once, like the resent release of the Revell 442. Although I was told by a hobbyshop owner who said he heard they weren't selling all that great. At the end of the day though it is all about the all mighty dollar. I'm passionate enough that if I ever win the big powerball I'm gonna start my own model car company and gear it towards offbeat subject matter. Probably go under in a year and be flat broke but at least models would get made that I want to see get made... Mic drop. lol!
  2. I seen a site awhile back where the specs and diagrams for scratchbuilding the Family truckster from Vacation. I wish that were a model for sure.
  3. So funny, my mom actually did have one only it was a 2 door! I'll take a 78 Impala as a kit right now please!
  4. I've enjoyed reading everyone's input so far. I believe that an experienced model builder would appreciate something out of the ordinary. I myself will build anything no matter what it is. I have an appreciation for models at shows or even on here in the under glass section no matter what the subject matter or car brand.
  5. The King Cobra from Zookeeper, very 70's and unique with the dual sidepipes! I'd like to build this one myself...
  6. So... mixed reviews so far it seems... and there are some great point of views, like LDO said it would prevent a company from creating something more worthy. And may be wasted energy... because there are alot of cars that have yet to be kitted. Such as a quality vega or chevy luv or maybe something Buick, Oldsmobile, or Pontiac. On the other hand, haven't companies tooled models in the past that didn't do so well? The answer is yes and it hasn't caused them to go out of business. I feel that by taking a chance on a 4door model it would show creativity IMO... After all, 4door cars are a huge part of the auto industry. Also the existing tools for chassis and other parts is another good point. My thought is pick an existing car and retool a body and door panels, create the box art and decals and see how well it would sell. Alot of possibilities here... police chief, fire cheif, unmarked, FBI, company car, drivers Ed car, family car, just to name a few.
  7. I am starting this thread to find out if there are others that have interest in seeing model companies do 4 door or sedan/post model kits. I realize there are resin companies that do certain 4 door and 2 door sedan models.Honestly I'd like to see an actual kitted model of this subject. How well do you think it would sell? And is there a company willing to take a chance on a four door model? Please feel free to post ideas, opinions, or criticisms. I just want to know if it would be worth it. I think some bodystyles and models are lacking in the model world. Thanks...
  8. I like how you want to save the model like it's a real car. A real 63 Impala would cost alot to restore but a model wouldn't so the idea to restore it as a survivor/budget car is a fresh idea. I think that way myself with projects. Do you use foil? I think that would ad a realistic effect to the weathering process. also if you're up for it I think I'd restore that interior completely. the black looks to flat to be vinyl. plus it looks like the paint had a reaction to either the plastic or possibly paint underneath?
  9. Dang Joe, your Skills have improved greatly since the first time you built it. Your like fine wine my friend!
  10. I didn't realize how much interest there is for original box art decal sheets. I hope Round 2 does some indepth research uncovering the very best kits. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and decide on.
  11. I got this for Christmas and went to work on it almost immediately. This was inspired by builds I did when I was a kid, where I would get a kit for Christmas/Birthday... one I wouldn't have picked out myself. After an afternoon of studying the parts and pondering the limited resources I had as a kid... I'd go out to my stepdad's work shed and find some old paint. Maybe not the best color choices and usually only 2 or 3 non matching colors but I didn't care about the out come as much as the building process. I built alot of kits this way. I only used 4 colors for the build. I chopped the top stretched the frame added a 409 and ditched the fenders. I removed the centers from a pair of donk wheels and replaced them with the 23T wooden wheels. It's a pro-touring touring... kinda... Anyway, thanks for allowing me to post it here... It was a fun ratrod/ pre-war era build for me, I don't usually build this kind of stuff.
  12. I repainted it with the same model master blue from before since it looked good but I will say it sprayed awful and the coverage was bad and spotty. (I'm done with Testors paints from now on) Tamiya or bust! Is that Starspangled blue? and do you use a metallic based basecoat? Silver works good but copper and gold are good too. I built many of these kits to. This one is exactly like the box. Nice job! Takes me back to 1989.There is a newer retooled Baldwin motion version I've been wanting to build like this one.
  13. Ron, I think these trucks look the best with two tone paint... white top and white middle. I'd say Start a thread here and get started on it . No feeling like restoring you own build up. I get so much inspiration from the guys on here. I was at my friend's house yesterday and he has a Cheyenne junkyard of various build ups as well as new parts and I was thinking how I like to take the lot and restore all of them.
  14. Here is a pic with some slots on it and the parts I scored...
  15. Thanks alot.... I hope the hard work pays off. I went to my parts guy's house and he hooked me up with some nessasary parts to make the build as nice as I can with new and more correct parts. I took Mike's advice on using the Monte Carlo big block with the 400 turbo transmission. I have a 64 frame I'm considering stretching out too not sure if I'm going that route yet though I dont want to change too much as I feel it will take away from the integrity of the kit. Other parts include brand new Spyder wheels, Complete new interior, and details for the enginebay. We are working on a design to scratchbuild a motorcycle rack as well. I'm excited for my new parts and gearing up for what is next.
  16. Maybe a new tool would be better since there is more awareness about the measuring and proportion prosess these days. Kit designers have a better understanding of what is scale. With the advancements now, companies have come a long way. I think when a kit is reissued... for me, It's more of a nostalgia based feeling. I wished the rear fenders were longer in the front too.and the steps were shorter but then agian if it was retooled it probably wouldn't be a long bed either because they're not that popular.
  17. I personally like the seats, they look like some high schooler went overboard with the armor all...
  18. I may have missed it but do you have any plans to cast the body? I think it would do well...
  19. Man I was just thinking that same thing! Blue windows and add three color choices for the lace decals! That would be cool... blue, purple, or maybe green... then you could change the body color to suit the decals that would be nice... l'd buy it!
  20. As far as I can tell the only other kit offered with this bed was the "Heavy Pedal" Chevy pick up. I did some digging here on the forums and found this. Any way, I managed to get some gold on the truck. It covered really well and has the result I was hoping for givien the circumstances. It looks alot better than the brush painted glue bomb it was... next up...boxart decals.
  21. I wanted to see how well this gold would match so I painted the tailgate and Wow it's really close! I'm getting excited about seeing paint on the rest now... more later...
  22. The Steering wheel is glued firmly to the dash but is not in the right position. I was able to get the black paint off it but the wheel will not budge... so I've decided to pay tribute to the original builder by leaving it where it is. I'll detail around it...
  23. I did manage to get this long bed stepside together too but it was heavily guled and I was afraid I distorted the original fit while removing the old glue. So it didn't go together as well as new unmolested plastic but oh well I'm moving on anyway... this bed is pretty rare these days it seems, does anyone know if the longbed step was ever offered in any other boxart or different kits?
  24. I like to use a thin coat of silver base as a guide coat, it makes it easier to see imperfections when smoothing out the surface on the primer. It helps me see all the low spots and whatever else cant be seen. I want that pure gold to really pop behind the pink lace. Groovy dude! Anyway, just more boring prep work but it's gettin there....
  25. Say? Didn't you sell this on Ebay? If so isn't it about time to build another one? Lol!
