Awesome! that makes 2 of us cause I have 5 to build. I've already chopped the top on one and I'm just waiting to get rolling on it.

I found this old build-up in my brother's barn ( the trumpeter chevy II) and desided it needs gasser treatment. It probably wont be this dramatic with the poked out slicks and maybe not quite that high. It's gonna be two toned for sure. I will be leaving the stock wheel wells in tact also in case someone else wants to reimagine it years from now. I cant count the times I've gotten old builds and thought "man, I wished he hadn't done that to it" Anyway I'm in the process of taking if from old to new agian. Enjoy the build and thanks for stopping by.. Attached is a picture of what I'm shooting for...

1/24 1/25 pinstripes
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks for the answers. -
I assume you have all the "Champ 500's" or ("Gamblers"as they're sometimes called) you're using for the front? If so, you might consider sanding the backs off the "crager" 66 chevy II wheels and gluing the dish to the Gamblers to give them the deep pro street look to the rear wheels. The wheels would all match too. Just a suggestion, love the paint!

Does anybody know if 1/32" pinstripes is the size I need to use to separate colors. What is smaller than 1/32"? I have some 1/8" and it is too big and I've had the size I need along time ago but I can't remember what this size is for ordering more... thanks for any help, heres what I'm working on. I want to pinstripe the stripes in white to separate the colors and make them stand out more.

Der Beetle Bus
disconovaman replied to Psychographic's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yeah, not Plum Crazy (one of my favorite colors) but for years I've been looking for the right mixture of paint to create this "magenta" color either with an air-brush or plain ole spray can would do at this point... love this color! Adding it to my favorites list. On another note... Dave, I don't mean to give you an idea and then steal it back but the theme of my next beetle bus project is gonna be the The little red fire engine... kinda goin with the look of the Baja beast with a chopped top and high metallic paint with gold leafing decals and real wooden ladders with a old school fire truck vibe... I've already made the chop and looking forward to the build! Thanks for the inspiration and I hope this one isn't the last one you do either... Also I like the military themed VW Bus cobraman built. -
Der Beetle Bus

Hey Dave, are you a fan of flocking? Just wondering because I don't beleive I've ever seen any of your finished builds. I'm kinda new on here too. -
Hello, I'm wondering if there is enough interest in doing a community build with this model. With the recent on the workbench threads going it seems this kit has alot of potential. Maybe a small group of fellow modelers feel that we could get a build off of sorts goin?

Der Beetle Bus

I'm enjoying watching this Project evolve at every turn... Now all you need to do is cast the mold and pour the resin. I'd sure love to have one... I chopped the top on one the other day just to see what it looks like now I've gotta take off on my next Der Beetle Bus . I have 5 to build so I need to get cracking. Has anyone heard if we are going to do a community build on this model yet? -
The interior looks real! Nice job. I think everyone should build a model with this style customizing done to it. It's a symbol of all different styles and represents individual tastes.

Sweet! My favorite was the BADMAN barn find! If I ever built a 55 it would be a BADMAN gasser... definitely my top 5 favorite models of all time...

Another angle...

Here's the engine...A Blown, aluminium headed, Big block 396!

I have some nearly finished pics of the 55 Bad Man! thanks for looking and the nice comments. Hopefully you guys will build your version because if you let you imagination run wild, the 55 is just the start. BadMan is the brand name and let's assume he's still racing today only he's moved up to a pro mod or even a rail. And let's not forget what started it all maybe he was a fighter pilot in the Korean War, So what did his jet look like? An adrenaline junkie who like many that came back from the war got into building hot rods to go fast. Huh? Huh?

These the decals your thinking of? Still see them on ebay... Mine were originals from the Monogram kit.

Cars in song
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Cool Guys thanks for the information! Tesla invented it but Edison got the credit.... is that how it went? Some one would've figured it out eventually... -
The model car club that I'm a member of (ACME) are always trying to come up with interesting club challenges. We always try to pick themes that are broad. I thought it would be a good theme to build a model from a song. It doesn't have to be a song specificlly about a car but if the lyrics mention a car then build your interpretation of that car or truck. Example: "It's a girl my lord in a FLAT BED FORD slowin down to take a look at me". I wanted to get some opinions on the idea. Good or Bad? Any song you can think of with the mention of a car or truck would be helpful. Thanks for any help..

Here are the most complete builds from the challange and when we do another club meeting with the Der Beetle Bus I'll be sure to add the rest of the finished projects for everyone to see. Thanks for the Support.... Also for anyone building one of these feel free to add it here if you want.

Yeah the BadMan is a Tom Daniels Masterpeice,... You knew it was a success when real cars were being built after the model. That doesn't happen to often... here it is with some added detail!

Der Beetle Bus
disconovaman replied to Psychographic's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I don't know if you've thought this far ahead but I had a vision of this thing being red with fire engine gold leafing decals on the doors and mini ladders on the bed as side rails maybe a Dalmatian in the passanger seat oh man, dude that would be Awesome! with all the chrome parts sprayed with Tamiya clear yellow turns chrome to gold! "The little fire engine that could" Yeah?! -
I beleive that there is an alternate universe with the model car world. It's kinda childish I guess but with modeling I beleive that the most important part is your imagination. I've always thought that the "Winter Nationals" themed box art is the back story to the car in the box. So my version was that the Orange Revell 55 hardtop that was featured on the box won the Winter Nationals against an up and coming future 55 Badman (Yellow 55 in the background) in 1965 and the following year the Badman took the trophy at the Winter Nationals agianst the Pink 55 you can only see the front fender of on the BAD MAN boxart.... I have plans of building the other two as well. Any one know what the Revell 55 decals were like? The cool thing about the pink 55 is I can get really get creative since the only thing we know is the car is a Gasser with no front bumper.

One of our members didn't have a chance to build the one he had in mind but he did offer this rendering of the build he was planning. I like it and hopefully he'll find time to build this before I do. If he doesn't build it I will...lol!
-
Thanks! my entry was one of two that was completed. Since some of the projects were unfinished we collectively have desided to revisit the challange agian at a later time... Which I have picked up 2 more kits for the future "Der Beetle Bus challange part 2". lol!

Ok I think I got it fixed now...

Anyone know the reason I can't load more than one photo at a time? I went in and cleaned up my file but I still can't load correctly. Message says You are only allowed to upload 2.9MB?
