That's funny after you commented on the wheelie bars I was mocking it up and I didn't have the front wheels on and when I let go of it the thing stood up on it's back wheels! The weight of the front wheels are what's literally keeping it on the ground. Yeah, you're right about a good head wind Lol!

Definitely adding wheelie bars... the ones in the kit are pretty cool! I like the look of the exposed front-end so I'll be fitting the radiator back there along with some electric fans as well. This one hasn't even made it downstairs to my workbench yet. I'm just brain storming so far anyway.

I thought about maybe creating my own decals for the build and covering the entire lower section with mural-art style graphics. Here are some examples of what I'm thinking about.

I agree! Here are some pics to hopefully explain what has been done thus far. Kinda hard to know without seeing the "before chopped body" but you can get an idea from the box art. The roof is a separate part and can be cut to fit the chopped body at a later time. The idea was to eliminate the rear wheel all together so the front wheel house would become the new rear wheel. Anyway it reminds me of that saying "If a bullfrog had wings".... because of the half-a-bed look that it's got goin on. Lol! I thought about adding a dragster wing, like that from the Wild Willie Boris dragster but I really don't know what to do with it. Maybe a 60's hippie van style paint job? Or a right hand drive Us mail hauler?

This is Amazing! Had I not seen the before pictures I'd swear it was an out of the box build. Looks like a fresh build.

I should've posted the box art in the introduction, sorry about that...So just in case anyone else couldn't remember the kit here it is.

Wow! Clean and Neatly done work goin on here...I love it.. -
Well, I'm back from our monthly club meeting and I thought I'd share our next club challange theme. The Der Beetle Bus! Now for some of those who haven't seen this kit, I'll admit that I wasn't excited about it and had it not been for my buddy I probably wouldn't have thought twice about the model. That said, I'm glad he took a chance on this kit. The Der Beetle Bus is a reissue and has all kinds of cool parts inside even if you didn't build the kit you can use the parts for other projects especially if you like building Gassers or Street Freaks. I knew if I was going to build the kit it would have to be reimagined so I inlisted the help of a fellow club member to take on the design and mock-up. After 4 or 5 ideas this is where it begins. On a side note the other ideas are being built as well. With this kit I believe the possibilities are many. A cab over dragster, a Gasser, a pick-up with separate bed or an elcamino of sorts with the cab attached to the bed, fill in the windows, chop the top or cut the top completely off. That's just some of the ideas mentioned. Just a cool little kit to chop up and do it your way. I'm Starting on this kit from the current state it is in now which has been severely chopped and kit bashed. I could use some imagination from some of you guys to help get it rolling. Any ideas will be considered and appreciated. Thanks alot in advance!

AMT '65 Vette cvt restomod , July 30 ,, engine work
disconovaman replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looks like alot of cool old builds waiting to get restored. I love restorations like rebuilding someone else's vision. When you get a model you can do anything to it and it amazes me what has been done over the years to model cars. I seen a 55 nomad with so many layers of paint (about an inch thick) that I could barely recognize what it was. I've built my share of them when I was young that made me wonder what was I thinking? -

Amazing job on bringing this vette back from the dead. I love the progress. Did you think to take any shots of it with the old paint and maybe of the original build? I have some old builds that I didn't build but I've thought about someday striping and doing a more professional job on. -
I picked up this kit with the intentions of building a pro touring car with white lighting paint and Renee's20bird decals but now that I see this build I'm thinking of a movie car replica. It looks like it builds up nicely. It's a fantastic job on a Iconic Pontiac muscle car. Heres a pic of my original plan for this trans-am.

Almost done now, I'll be adding the finished project to the Under glass section soon. Heres a couple pics for comparison. Thanks and happy modeling!

I think It'll fit. It's a good X body sub frame chassis. I'm not into it yet but as far as can tell the firewall and engine compartment may need refigured. And since the MPC is a hatchback, I need to cut the wheelwells out of the revell chassis.

What predictions can we make for new kit releases in 2017?

I hear Round2 is repopping that MPC Toyota monster truck wrecker... -
This is an mpc kit from 1977 I've had for about 10 years and today I just broke the seal on this 40 year old brand new nova. I had always planned on building it and I'm glad I waited because I'll be using the Revell 69 nova chassis. The fit is a little tight but with some slight modifications it's gonna work great. I can't wait to start on this project. I'll start a brand new thread when I finish my 1.1 nova I'm working on now.

copo Nova white wall decals work fantastic! I'm happy with the result, So I'm movin on now!

Just reporting in Guys, something that I rarely take time to do is reorganize my bench.Today I decided that it was time to regroup and clear my bench and get everything back in order. I don't know how it gets the way it does. I definitely don't have a problem with wrecking the place if I'm trying to find something. Lol! Anyway, when I get all my supplies back on my work bench I'll be taking off on the nova build for all the finishing touches and final assembly.

Tn. only has 1 plate anyway, maybe a manufacturers plate would complete the front. Dodge Mopar etc... Nice color combo. I'd be proud to showcase it.

Another small task I did was cut the back glass and quarter windows for the opening hatch, the kit's glass is too thick so I used clear styrene I've polished that for a cleaner look. Thanks agian for looking...

I've been busy trying to get this project done, still alot left to do but I've come along ways also. I had to move the firewall forward and it still isn't as close as I'd prefer but way better than the box stock look. Also I finished up the shocks on the hatchback they are removable so I can pose it up or down. I tried to make them as realistic as possible. Not perfect but good enough. I'm trying to stay optimistic... Anyway, here are some pics. Thanks for sticking with me on this build.

B!tch!n ride dude! I'm about to try the super glue/baking soda trick myself.

I have an old paint stencil for white walls but I can't get the thing to work right. And other than decals (which I don't have) I don't really know what to do. Any suggestions? I would be grateful. Also I did some engine bay weathering and I moved the firewall closer to the engine (pics to come of that later). I'm gonna make a list of things to do to this kit when I get it built. I'm thinking one of them may be to replace the chassis with the 69 Revell nova? With this kit being reissued in August I'm excited to see if anyone will be building it. MPC kits of the late 70's are pretty crappy but I think it has potential to be pretty cool.
