Acrylic Paint for Whitewalls
Tommy Kortman replied to NorthernWolfman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Matthew, Welcome to the site. I think you'll find guys here that can answer just about any question you have. And you will probably get more than one answer that will work. Now, getting to your question. I have always used Polly Scale paints to do white walls. It's an acrylic paint similar to Tamiya, but it covers better when you brush it. Polly Scale can be found in a lot of model railroad shops. I have user both Reefer White and Antique White. I prefer the Antique White because it gives a little more realistic hue to the whites. Polly scale drys to an eggshell satin finish which to me looks perfect for white walls. The tires on the truck below were painted painted with the Antique white approx. 5 or 6 years ago now. they do not have any clear over them and they look just as good now as when I painted them. I hope this has helped. -
Questions about NNL East
Tommy Kortman replied to Greg Cullinan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gentlemen, I would like to second VW Dave. NNL East is like no other model car show you have ever been to. Picture 2 complete rooms full of vendors. (one of which is a basketball auditorium that's 2 courts wide i believe.) And while there will be kit sellers in attendance, the primary vendors are the aftermarket shops. Places like Slixx, Model Car Garage, Scale Motorsports, Black Gold House of Kolors paints, Jimmy Flintstone, MCW, Modelhaus, and many others. Our most generous host of this very board will be in attendance as well as a photographer from "the other guys". The model room is the length of 2 basket ball courts end to end. There should be well over 1000 models on the table. Bring extra batteries for your digital camera. Oh... and one more thing. bring something to pick your jaws up off the floor with. The work you will see on the tables here will rival anything else you may have seen at other shows. Including Salt Lake! -
Airbrush guys . . .
Tommy Kortman replied to Bridgebuster's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you're going to get serious about using an airbrush, go with a double action. It will save you $$ in the long run because after using a single action for a little while, you will want to upgrade. Now you have bought 2 brushes. Personally I like the new Badger Renegade line. -
Johnny, You wouldn't happen to have any photos of that 40 would you?

Well, here we are again. this was a PACM build night at Greg's house. It was the same Sat as the 12 hours of Sebring. PACM night 03-20-10

12 Hours of Sebring
Tommy Kortman replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was a pretty good race. The GT class was definitely the class to watch. To bad for the Lizards. Love that Gulf Aston Martin. I guess they all cant end like last years. I looks like it could be a great GT season. I really liked that Speed ran the live stream on the web while the TV had to go to NASCAR. I sure hope they do the same thing for LeMans. The Aussie Supercar race was good today as well. Somebody finally broke Wincup's win streak. What I don't understand is if you know that by not putting tires on the car Saturday cost you the race, why would you do the same thing on Sunday? Do they have a limit on the sets of tires you can use. -
Ok, I just finished fabricating one header. I still have to do the finishing work. Hopefully the passenger side comes out just as well. And here's the link to the Fotki host album. 40 Coupe Fotki album

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I consider it an honor after seeing the quality work that constantly shows up on this board. Nick, That dio base actually gives me some ideas. (Why do I expect to see an orange 69 charger there soon?) sjordan, Actually, that photo does help with some detail questions. Thanks. Does anyone know where I can find some decent pics of stills?

Here are some more photos. Another couple engine shots. Still working on the headers. Interior: Goodies: Under hood and truck bracing: Thanks again

I got this idea from some photos that were sent to me from a fellow club member. It was this beautiful black 40 ford std coupe that looked bone stock from the out side. But...when you opened the hood, there sat a beautiful Cadillac V-8. Talk about the ultimate sleeper. Well I thought that the set up would be perfect for a moonshiners car. I used the Revell 40 std coupe, and the motor from the 49 Merc kit. I plan to display the car on a small landscaped base with a small still. There are only a few changes from a box stock build. First is obviously the engine. As previously stated it is sourced from the Revell Mercury custom kit. I am going with dual quads thought instead of the trips. The second change is the dropped front axle which was taken from the Revell 40 deluxe convertible. Finally the trunk was cut open and bracing was added to the underside of the deck lid, and the hood. I will be adding a load of the "recipe" to the trunk and another behind the seats. Fellow PACM (Philly Boyz) member gave me the cardboard cases, and the resin jugs. He also gave me a line on getting scale mason jars. So without further eloquence, I give you the Whiskey a Go Go! (at least until I can come up with a name I like better) Here is the car in a mock up stage. Hood and trunk will be positioned open, but removable for transport. The Caddy does fit...with some...uh...adjustments. A shot with the hood on. The carbs are not completed yet. I just have them there for the pics. I hope you like it, and I'll post more as I go along. I'd like to have it done for NNL East, but I'm not sure i can pull that off. Thanks for looking.

Restore or "Restify?"
Tommy Kortman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I whole hartedly agree. The BJ auction has helped put the car hobby way outside the avg Joe's wallet. -
Mopar sacrilege?
Tommy Kortman replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Other than the steering wheel being on the wrong side, I love it! -
Restore or "Restify?"
Tommy Kortman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh sorry... but just to put my 2 cents in about the original thread. If it's a rare care or a car with pedigree and history, then restore it. If it's a plain Jane belly button car (you know "everybody's got one")... the break out the smoke wrench and start cutting. -
Restore or "Restify?"
Tommy Kortman replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know? I've seen similar threads like this in the past, and it always seems like it's the Mopar guys that come flying out of the woodwork. This is not a slam, just an observation...and a question. I wonder why? Is it because Mopars are generally more expensive to restore (or do anything with for that matter). Is it because the cars talked about are usually the most sought after (Cudas, Challengers, and Hemi anythings)? Just curious. -
F1 season is in full force!
Tommy Kortman replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It was great to see Schumi back on track. Vettel looks good. I just wish it was Massa on the top of the podium instead of Alonso. I'm not a big Alonso fan. The race was Ok. There is still not a lot of passing. I liked the Lotus scheme. Sadly, (and this is just my opinion) I thought that the Indy car race was more exciting. Although, with the track/road condition, at times it looked more like an off-road event. All in all yesterday was a great day to just lounge around the house and watch racing. F1, Indy, and NHRA. I was in Heaven!! -
I have to agree with the assesment of Norm's Offy. I bought one from him at the LIARS show last year, and I dont even have anything to put it in. It is a work of art all by itself.

OK folks, Here are a couple of post nuke cars I built a few years ago. I am not trying to violate the spirit of this build thread, but the work I have seen here inspired me to post some of my work. The imaginaion and talent put into these builds is wonderful. With your permission...I submit these photos for your enjoyment and amusement. First: We have the original Post Nuke car.(Well, at least the first one I can remember.) This car, and the movies it came from, have inspired a lot of us. I give you the "LAST V-8 INTERCEPTOR"!! Finally: The car that Max inspired me to build. the Post-Nuke LAPD interceptor. I hope you like them. Thanks for the oppertunity to show them.

Porsche Topic!!! anything porsche!
Tommy Kortman replied to B_rad88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh, I see what you're talking about. they do have the facilities to make those types of repairs. What I meant was don't expect a major overhaul, ground up resto job. When I was there last they were doing some work on the Maserati 300S. The cars are, for the most part kept in running condition. -

I don't foresee any restorations here. The Doc likes to keep his stuff as original and un-restored as possible. He likes them to be as close to the way they raced as they can be. -

I am told that this car finished 2nd @ LeMans in 1970. It is currently in the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia. The Curator also said it was driven at one time by Pedro Rodriguez, and was in Gulf colors at one time as well. Here's some more views.
