Simeone Automotive Museum
Tommy Kortman replied to Tommy Kortman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually Andy, Harry is correct in this instance...sort of. I guess i need to update my profile I have been able to escape the Peoples Repulic of NJ, and I am currently in exile here in the City of Brotherly Love. However if you listen to the news around here they seem to refer to everything from the Poconos to the Jersey Shore as the Greater Philadelphia Area. I guess the bottom line is that the Museum collection is amazing to see. -
Just wanted to spread the word about a wonderful Museum that we have here in the City of Brotherly Love. (or was that random gunfire...I cant remember) It's called the Simeone Automotive Foundation Museum. It has got some of the most amazing and significant race cars in un-restored condition. The place is wonderful. I took these photos there about 3 months or so ago. Since that time they have added the Wintersteen Corvette Grand Sport. The best part is that if you go on the last weekend of the month, they actually take some of the cars out on their 3 acre lot out back, and drive them. Here's the link to my photos. Randy, Please accept my heartfelt apologies to you and the other fine members of the Central Pa club. I certainly meant no offence. You and the rest of your "family" members are certainly honored guests. -
Jersey Shore MCC Feb. 2010 Meeting
Tommy Kortman replied to Dave Wood's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Nice shots Dave. Really sorry we missed it. -
Cal, I definitely respect your opinion, and maybe I'm missing your point, but there is no way you can compare those horsepower numbers with whats being produced by a Nitro car. 800, 900, even 1500 horse power is not even in the ballpark. Those Top Fuel engines are producing something like 5, 6, maybe 7000 horse power. (if the reports are to be believed) that has got to be an ungodly amount of stress on parts. Has anybody said whether or not Antron had any tire shake bafore the accident? That could have been a contributing factor to the failure as well. I mean this was only the second race of the season and with the restrictions on testing, is there any way these "new" parts could have been fatigued already?

Uncle Bobby, I am ashamed of you. This weekend is the Philly Guyz annual Big Sit at Mainline hobbies in East Norriton Pa. While it's not a contest or a swap meet, it is our yearly gathering of members from the area "Families". It is our annual pre contest season kick-off. It's a chance to get out of the house, come on down to a local hobby shop, sit around with a bunch of other like minded sick individuals, race some slot cars, eat pizza and soft pretzels(not necessarily at the same time), tell some lies, and most importantly break a few stones while were at it. We are expecting infamous and notorious modelers from the MAMAS, Jersey Shore Model Car Club, Silent Traffic, Tri-State Model Car Club (Yup! those NNL East guys), Delaware Valley Scale Modelers, and of course it wouldn't be a party without those reprobate degenerates from the Philadelphia Area Car Modelers. Well, at least the ones who have made bail anyway. It's a great time, COME ON DOWN!!! Here are some links. PACM - "Philly Guyz" Mainline Hobbies -
ESPN is reporting that a female spectator was killed at Firebird Raceway in Pheonix during the first round of Top-Fuel eliminations today. Apparently when Antron Brown crashed, one of his rear tires flew into the crowd. Initial reports from other sites say that the woman was walking behind the grandstands when she was stuck. She may have been pushing someone else in a wheel chair, and never saw the tire coming. One site says she was killed instantly, while another report says she was delcared dead at the hospital. My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family. This is truly a sad day in American motorsports.

Tommy Kortman replied to J Smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't ,but it got a really good review in Air Brush Action magazine a while back. -
Marc, Its really good to see you here. The Express looks great! You really took a show rod icon and made it your own, BRAVO!! The wood graining really looks amazing. I would love to see a step by step of that process.
-
Yo Cruz, that looks great!! So when can we expect the matching convertible? LOL!! Seriously man, that looks fantastic. I cant wait to see it in person. Will you bring it to the next MAMAS meeting?

Getting aquainted with my Airbrush
Tommy Kortman replied to Rat Fink's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Eric, I Think you will really enjoy the Aztek. I used a 470 until I flat wore it out. What I really liked was how easy it was to clean. Plus, it's not an intimidating peice of equiptment. The Aztek was my first airbrush. Good Luck with it. -
Cobra Daytona Coupe in plastic.

That car is currently residing less than 20 minutes from me. It looks fantastic. The lettering is no longer on the drivers side door. I couldn't see the passenger side. It is currently located in the Simeone Automotive Foundation Museum. Here's the link to the Museum. Simeone Museum This place is amazing. -
I'm AIRBRUSH shopping
Tommy Kortman replied to MARAUDER's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I will second that. My normal brush was a badger 150 and a sotar 20/20 (for fine work), but after i had the oppertunity to work with the renegade series, I'm hooked. -
Where ya goin' Hot foot?
Tommy Kortman replied to RJWood's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Man... I don't know if I should be typing or casting here. Sounds like some fish stories around here. It's OK though I brought the hip waders. For myself. Back when I was young, dumb, and full of...well you get the point. I went over 120mph (that's as far as the speedo would go in my moms 77 Malibu)I say over because the needle disappeared. I was cannonballing to the Jersey Shore (LBI) in February against one of my dorm-mates from college. When I shut the lights off at 110 going down Rt 72 in the pine barrens, my room mate jumped from the front seat to the back. I asked him why; to wit he responded, "Because if we die, you go first... expletive deleted." I have averaged 127mph on the 5/8 mile square-oval that used to be Flemington Speedway. (After they paved it) I swear that place got faster after it was paved. (Man I miss that place) It was also the place where I caught the end of the pit wall after the left front spindle broke at 125mph. To this day I don't remember much of that wreck. -
The official race season kick off
Tommy Kortman replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess when you stop and think about it. How can TRG complain about the Chevy Dump Trucks, when the motor that took the overall win was developed from what could loosley be considered a truck (OK SUV)LOL!! -
3D printers.....
Tommy Kortman replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember seeing the first generation versions work a few years ago. From what i remember, the "finished" piece was OK but it would still need work before being able to cast it. At that time you could clearly see the stratification lines in the piece. Plus, at that time the resin was very brittle and would break extremely easily.I have to imagine that the quality has gotten better. -
I always thought that's what the parachute was for.

SWEET!!!. Bringin' back the Panther Pink. I had a race car painted that color. Now, how about the green too. Like the old trans-am cars. WoooHooo!! Did anyone see the Petty blue one at Barrett-Jackson? For some reason, that color did not look right on that car. Maybe because there was too much of it.
