Would it bother you?
smhardesty replied to mchook's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ditto. I'd feel the same way, Richard. I'll never enter one of my builds in any show or contest. It would put a feather in my hat if I sold one to someone else who entered it and it won. -
Ditto. I was just thinking that same thing. A dark day in our history, for sure.

I'm wondering how you "know" I'm trolling since you can't know my mind for one, and I'm doing no such thing for another. Usually guys start throwing out such comments once they realize they might be in error. Also, I'm not arguing. I'm expressing my opinion. Guys also start insisting others are arguing once they realize they might be in error. For instance, you stated that Mark (Mark Hook started this post) "attended that contest after all". You appear to have erred. He, in fact, learned that the model had been entered in the " Goodguys" show in Colorado via a third party who had seen the model. I believe the third party was Ben269. According to what Mark stated in his post, he did not attend. Further, Mark expressed his thoughts that it doesn't bother him. He further expressed a very sensible realization that the model was no longer his. He sold it. The new owner is free to do with it as he wishes. If that includes entering it in a contest then so be it. So the fact is we don't know if the new owner laid claim to being the builder or not. We also don't know if that event had a rule that contestants can only enter their own personal works. These are facts, not opinions. The question Mark originally asked was whether it would bother each of us if we sold a build to someone who then entered it in a contest. That question requires an opinion from each of us. My personal opinion is that I wouldn't care one way or the other if someone did that with a build of mine. The only way I could object would be if I attached my name to the model, then got a signed agreement from the buyer that he would never enter the model in any show or contest. If you do that with a model, then you should never attend a 1:1 car show because clearly half or more of the cars there are completely, or at least mostly, built by someone other than the owner. And if you actually stand on principle, then you'd need to avoid the show. -

James D and Randy L, Thank you, thank you, thank you. You get it. Yep, if I built it and sold it, I can't be too ticked off if the new owner enters it in a show and wins. My bad. Lesson learned. Although I might have my hackles raised if he entered it in a show I was in and beat me. And the comparison to 1:1 show car owners that never turned a wrench is just exactly what I had in mind. They do it. It's accepted. No questions asked. -

No. That's exactly my point. Do you know the rules for that contest run by that club or organization? I don't care how many different contests you have entered, where they were held, or what their rules are. The ONLY thing that is important is what the rules for THAT contest he entered say. Period. And I sure don't know and kind of doubt if you do. -

These two scenarios are as different as day and night. The reason a parent is not supposed to do work for his child has nothing to do with winning a prize. You're prohibited from doing the work because your child is supposed to be learning something. The project is created as a means of educating your child and also to help the child develop manual dexterity. A guy who buys a model and enters it in a contest is most definitely a whole different matter. -

Where does it say in that original post that the guy attempted to do that? And unless a person was actually there and heard the man taking credit for the build, it can't be assumed or implied in any way. Apparently, the contest the car was entered in didn't have any rules requiring proof of workmanship and/or ownership. -

You guys are all ASSUMING the buyer made some attempt to pass it as his own work. I didn't get that impression reading the original post. Simply entering the model in a contest doesn't imply the guy attempted to claim it as his own work. It has simply been entered. As for comparing a model car to the Mona Lisa, c'mon. Are you kidding? Talk about comparing apples to oranges! Are you guys all saying that in every contest with prizes awarded, every piece has to be completely built, constructed, made, etc, etc by the individual entering it? So from this point on no cars may be entered in a show unless it is absolutely verified that the individual entering it in the contest performed EVERY step in the construction of the vehicle. Is that what you're saying? And from this point forward no car may be raced in ANY race, of any kind, unless the driver performed each and every task in the building of that car. Again, is that what you're saying? I could go on with dozens of ridiculous comparisons, but there is no need, I would hope. Unless it is positively known that the fellow that bought the kit deliberately and intentionally tried to take credit for building the car, I still say he did no wrong. -

Not a bit. It's like you said, it's no longer "your" model when the money and kit are exchanged. I never intend to put any of my builds in any contest, so if someone buys one from me and does enter it, I just hope it wins something for them. -
X2. I had thought about painting mine Gauguin Red or Sunset Rose, but it sure does look good in white. .

Nothing personal and sorry to see your losing value, but there are a whole lot of people in the world that just can't wait to see it crash. I have no Facebook account, have never had a Facebook account, and will never have a Facebook account. As a former computer tech and network administrator I can tell you countless horror stories where Facebook and other "social disease" sites have been involved. I'd bet that if you really knew what Facebook gleaned from your computer and/or smartphone, and then what they have done and are doing with that data, you'd probably be deleting your account immediately. "Social disease" websites are intrusive, invasive, and just downright destructive and dangerous. OK. Enough of that ranting. Next on the soapbox, please.

Just heard a summary of rainfall for the area surrounding me for this "event". Totals ranged from 4" to just over 10" with the bulk of all coming just today. One reporting station just a few miles east of me reported 7" today. Nothing about the rain is that irritating. What is irritating is the number of complete idiots that somehow believe their cars or trucks are somehow impervious to rushing and roaring flood waters. Local emergency agencies, including law enforcement, have been tied up trying to rescue these idiots. In small, rural towns like I live in, management has two choices. They can either direct all their on-duty resources to rescuing the idiots or call in off-duty personnel to cover that. Option 1 leaves no one to perform the usual daily tasks like patrolling neighborhoods to deter crime. If they choose option 2, the taxpayers are then burdened with the cost of rescuing the idiots. Either way, the average, competent taxpaying base is burdened because of a few dip sticks. It's very frustrating to me. I'm going to guess I was around 12 to 14 when I had a full and complete understanding of the dangers of driving into flash flood water crossing a road. How in the world did so many people totally miss that information? The idiots you see and hear about aren't necessarily 16-year-olds that just got their licenses. These people are usually young to middle-aged adults. Like I said, it's kind of frustrating to me.

Don't have the latest rainfall total, but we have received about 6" in the last day or so. I haven't been out in it, but online reports indicate there are LOTS of streets and roads that are impassable and pretty much every ditch and creek are way out of their banks. Good weekend to stay inside and watch football.

I'm looking forward to seeing this with a little shine to it. It's a really interesting color. -
I got a tip from a regular MOPAR nut. He suggested getting a Pro Street Super Bee kit. He said it has all the other parts needed to fit the floor pan to the Coronet plus that kit also has the experimental Hemi. Made sense to me.

Great looking paint! Looks real sweet on that 'Vette.

Nicely done on all 3, but that Buick really caught my eye.

The short answer is yes. The fact is it depends on how you created the link in the first place and whether the new photo location will have a new, unique URL. In most every case it will.

You're absolutely correct. Depending on which critic you listen to or which web article you read, Boogie Nights and Deliverance swap back and forth for 1st and 2nd best. Both movies required a higher degree of acting to make the role come alive and he hit both right on the head.

It's going to get some detailing, especially the interior. I'm considering picking up one of the Pro Street floor pans on eBay. I'm not big on Pro Street or big tire cars, but I've seen 3 or 4 of these cars done that way and they look pretty sharp.

Finally got one of these at a price I thought was reasonable. I've got a bug in the back of my head that makes me try and buy everything for $20 or less. Didn't get there on this one, but got close enough to make the deal. .

Deliverance was by far his best role. Reynolds himself stated, "I don't know if it's the best acting I've done, but it's the best movie I've ever been in. It proved I could act, not only to the public but to me."

Very nice build! Well done. 2 thumbs up.
