First attempt at resin casting
ismaelg replied to Ken's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ken, Good start! I gave casting a try a few years ago and I actually ended up selling parts, but it was time consuming and the materials had a terribly short shelf life in my weather conditions. You don't want a vacuum chamber for the bubbles. On the contrary you want a pressure pot. I got one at Sears. You pour the resin into the mold then quickly put it into the chamber and pressurize it with a compressor. That should help take care of the bubbles. Hope this helps. Thanks, -
Hello, I know I know, what the heck is this? First a little history: As a child and a teenager in the '80s, this was the quintessential exotic dream car. Everybody I knew that was a car buff had a poster or a magazine article or anything about it. On top of my bed were many posters, including Corvettes, Vectors and Countach Lambos. An urban legend in my town said that this car would not work below 60 MPH (How stupid was that!) You could only dream of seeing one. Around 1988, for Christmas, my parents gave me a Testor's 1/48 scale Hercules C-130. "Would you mind if I change it?" - "not at all" So I went to the toy store and exchanged it for one of this: Testor's Fujimi Lamborghini Countach LP5000S. I built it 100% box stock which is not bad at all, since it has 240 parts! It was painted hardware store paint bomb black with dark red interiors. About 10-12 years ago, I traded it in to a co-worker for an unbuilt Corvette Pace Car Fast forward to the present, I just got this from the bay. I wouldn't call this a super holy grail, but I have fond memories of that model. This time I think I can do a bit better. This time, I plan on white with dark red interiors. Yes, I know this is cheesy at best, but hey, you can't be objective about car passion Thanks,

Hello, This is always an interesting subject. Not that I don't have enough projects for 3 lifetimes but here I go: Corvette Sting Ray Racer Ferrari 330 P3 IRL cars Le Sabre concept car 1979 Toyota Corolla 2 door coupe Deluxe Solstice Saturn Sky Cadillac CTS-V Cadillac XLR Pontiac G6 coupe Vector W2 Vector W8 Vector WX3 Koenigsegg CCX (These last 4 I'd be happy with just a solid chunk of resin without any interiors or drivetrain) I'm sure I can come up with many more...... Thanks,

Welcome to the forum Greg!

Hello, Is this air duct available as a part in any kit? Maybe a NASCAR or something? There is another one on the other door. Or, does anyone has an idea on how to start? The challenge is not the shape, but the fact that it is clear. I want to build at least 4 C6-Rs (LeMans #63, LeMans #64, Petit LeMans #3, Petit LeMans #4) so I have a lot of work ahead. Thanks,

Louis, Those are actually mine. The rotors were machined from aluminum but instead of having a perfectly smooth surface, I tried to recreate the wear pattern. The calipers are from the kit, removed from the molded rotor. Thanks,
-
Very very nice!!! Love it! That car is so popular here now I want one of those kits

Boricua! Not a Carrera GT, and not even finished, but what the heck. Anyway we are alone here because everybody else is in Toledo  Here is a long term Porsche project. A Tamiya GT3 I'm converting into a 2003 model year. It will most likely be Porsche Cobalt blue. Thanks,
-
Hello, Back at the workbench. Machined rotors for that unique rotor wear look. Just a little touch up here and there on the color edges and into the chassis they go. The fronts are supposed to be a bit larger than the back, but you can't tell. Oh well... Thanks, Ismael

I hope I am not boring you with all this, but I'm still excited. Besides, this is reference material so it is NOT off topic The car has barely stopped when they are already on it Driver out taking his seat insert with him Next driver already in the car After the driver change is complete then the crew is allowed to service the car Off it goes with a magical ear shattering thunder Only 38 seconds between all these pictures After the car was gone, the Michelin guy took the tires for analysis Ron Fellows checking timecharts Olivier Beretta checking timecharts You can tell I am still excited about this... Thanks, Ismael "the Corvette guy" Gonzalez "You haven't lived until you hear a C6-R in anger"

That's cool! It usually takes me longer than that to glue the engine halves

Very nice!

Eric, Yes, they told me about Matt's moving. I hope that goes well. I left a little something for you and Matt with Bob. I hope we get another chance to meet! Thanks, -

Now that you mention it, here is a pic of the unfair air inlet. You can see it is less than 1 inch diameter. This is one of the many pictures I'll post, probably in a separate web page along with the story on how I became "part" of the Corvette racing team for this race. Thanks, Ismael -
... I can't find the words to describe the experience, because every superlative is an understatement. I don't deserve all that fun!!! I had the best car time in my life. Meeting David Palmeter at the track and Bob Downey, Wayne and the whole ACME gang was absolutely GREAT! I had the best of times. I need to cach up on a few things (like sleep) but I'll be posting more about the trip and some of the 350+ pictures soon. My new motto is: "You haven't lived until you hear a C6-R in anger" Thanks,
