Hello, To say Red plastic has been defeated is an understatement! This time by a knockout on 4 rounds. (primer, color, clear, polish) This color is hard to photograph. The flash bounces wildly over the metallic particles making it look "dusty" (second pic), while natural light (first and 3rd pics) show it a bit darker and silvery than it actually is. It is a bit more blueish. It was cloudy and dark outside, so I hope to eventually get pics on bright sunlight. I love this color. From a distance it looks like a candy blue over silver. Now to the tedious task of masking and painting all the fine black trim. As always, your thoughts and comments are appreciated. Thanks,

Red White & Blue Paint Schemes?
ismaelg replied to RowdyYates's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This is the closest I can get to that: red white and blue (or blue and white ) -
Looking good Ben! That is one of my favorite cars of that era. In my opinion, the last great Buick......

Sounds GREAT! I think I'll be in the Suwanee area, which should be only about 30-40 miles from Smyrna... correct? -
I have never used Evercoat, but it could be the putty is not fully cured or dry. Before primer, do you feel the transition with your finger? If it shows in the primer it will show in the paint. Maybe you can try sanding with finer grain sandpaper until the transtion can not be felt. I use Milliput fine grain putty and it feathers very nicely. I use either Plastikote or Moon mud primer. I don't know if this helps much, but I hope so. Thanks,

Beautiful craftsmanship! Love to see your paint jobs

Marc, That's a nice subject. Keep us posted. A good friend on mine had one, bright orange with light grey interiors. It was a cool car and it took him all thru college and then some more. I'd love to see the wide body Starion as well. That was a cool car. BUT: I'd kill for a model of my first car: A 1979 Toyota Corolla which I still own today. Thanks,

Very nice! This will now be in the dictionary as part of the definition of Pro-Touring.

WOW! I'm honored for all the nice comments about my work. I just got a call from the guy responsible for getting me back into model cars about 10 years ago (after my incursion in aircraft). His '53 and '65 Corvette models are still today an inspiration to me. He saw this post and called to ask me a few questions about polishing and other details and told me I was inspiring him! That's one of the biggest compliments I've received!! I'm really honored! Thanks, -
Looking good! I suppose it will have a wing as well. I see 4 different wheel sets. Not that we have a wheel fetish but I love them all. Especially the first and 3rd set  Thanks,

Now THAT'S Wild!!!! Do you plan to make it sit lower in the back? On your last mockup pic, the back looks a bit too high. Thanks,

John, Those hubcaps were pretty much "solid" with slots only on the outer recess. Bill pics are good. Here is a close up that may help: A good old black wash should work. Hope this helps. Thanks, -
James, Welcome aboard!! That 430 is looking great! That color combo is amazing on Ferraris. Can't wait to see it finished! Thanks,

If I hit the Lotto, I'll hire a modeling assistant. Here is part of the job description: - Open stuck jar lids - shake all paint jars on a daily basis - Keep track of all paints available, and restock as needed - Act as a third and fourth hand as needed to hold parts for painting - Double check and clean the airbrush after I clean it. - Keep paint masks, goggles, gloves and other safety related stuff up to date and replace as needed - Work for me at the office so I can spend more time in the workbench - I'm an equal opportunity employer, but extra points awarded for been female, but my wife needs to approve... Any other tasks? Thanks,
-
Craig, I never get tired of seeing that amazing piece of work. I love it! Thanks,

Yet another new guy!

Hey Craig, Welcome aboard! Thanks, -
Ray, Peter Lepold posted a detailed tutorial in the tips, tricks and ideas section. In a nutshell, the trick is not to sand it because the foil will be destroyed, as you already found out. Peter recommends a polishing compound. I used a 4000 sanding cloth very carefully, and I did it after every coat of primer and every coat of color, to prevent buildup. Also, I did a final polishing with BMF Plastic Polish before the clear so it will be protected and I won't have to touch it once clear is applied. Hope this helps. Thanks,

First of all, isn't insanity GREAT? I remembered that about 10 years ago, I took apart a Hot Wheels Ferrari 308 to do the same car I'm doing now. Found it, stripped it (old Testors enamel) and painted it to match the 1/24. So now this is about a 1/3 scale model of the 1/25 scale model 308 I'm building. (OK, it is a 1/2.66 scale of the 1/24 but who's counting?) STOP ME BEFORE I HURT MYSELF!!!!! I already have plans for its "presentation" Thanks,

Very cool project! It's coming along really nice. The roof is a vast improvement. That's a subject you don't see very often. Thanks,

Hello, I want to do something to fit in between the factory stock Z06 and the C6-R. How about an SCCA T1 club racer? I've never done a roll cage before, so any time saving tips are appreciated. Other than the roll cage, plans are for racing seats and harness, racing wheels and tires, maybe a rear wing, and minor dash / engine / chassis / suspension upgrades. This should still be a street legal car, so it needs full exhaust and emissions systems, lights, glass etc. This will most likely be a long term project. As if I didn't have enough.... Thanks,
-
Hello, From the department of redundancy department: The 308 is clear for clear. This color is very hard to photograph. It looks way much better in person. I atached the front fascia / bumper / underpan / whatever but left the back one because I still need to mask and paint the bumper black. A first for me: Emblem foil before primer/paint. I keep polishing it after each coat to prevent heavy buildup. It came out good. Keep in mind the pic is larger than actual size. Haven't done anything on the interiors or any other area, so it is still a long way to go. Thanks,
