Hello, This is a 1/3 scale RC Ferrari 308 painted to match the one in the garage:  Ohh you want to see the big one? This is the Monogram 1/24 Ferrari 308. Very simple kit, maybe less than 40 parts, but a good foundation. Repeat with me: Curbside, shelf model,Curbside, shelf model...) Cobra Colors Azzurro California Metallic. The Revell Magnum's 308 kit donated the wheels, tires and wipers. Crazy Modeler Photoetch emblems. The parts count was doubled on the interiors alone The key is in the ignition. Added all switches, knobs, all new shifter and shifter plate, seatbelts, seatbelts latches etc. etc. etc. Aluminum exhaust tips with a very slight flare at the end. My now usual book in the seat. Personal license plate. Wheel logos and nose emblem courtesy of my computer. US spec marker lights. Back bumper filled smooth. Valve stems Windshield tint Plus many other mods or additions. The biggest disappointment is the tail lights. In the 1:1, they are big, thin and concave. The kit's parts were small, thick and convex. I did my best on them but it will always be shown from the front. This was supposed to be a quick build. And for my rate of building it was quick: Only 2 and a half months. This is a great little kit that goes together very nice. It can be done as a really quick build or you can take your time and do something even nicer. Ohh, And this is a Hot Wheels painted to match the bigger one. It is 1/64, so it is a 1/3 scale in 1/24. (OK, 1/2.66 in 24th scale but who's counting?) The remote control was a lot of fun to build. (Pstt, no it doesn't work. Can't find batteries small enough ) What do you think? I know this subject is not the cup of tea of many, but, as usual, your comments are always appreciated. Thanks,

Nice save! It looks very good! Thanks, -
Hi Chad, Glad to see you here! You have a great eye. This was one of the first parts I did, and the problem was the material used. I did not have much good material to work with at the begining. I mail ordered some great aluminum and brass alloys. But this was cut from... you guessed it, cheapo hardware store rod. I'm relatively new to machining as well, so now I'm learning about grinding my own tools, keeping them sharp etc. It's a lot of fun and it can be a hobby within the hobby. Only constraint is time Thanks,

Hello, This is the 3rd and last of the "barn finds" for now. This is the Monogram Testarrossa convertible. I built this one around 1987-88, not long before or after the 308 rebuild. Most likely, the 308 was painted with the leftover paint of this project. When I finished this model, I clearly remember thinking "WOW, I've reached perfection! It doesn't get any better than this" Today I think "yeah right....." This was my best work to date at that time. I also clearly remember after finshing it, proudly putting it in the dining table so mom dad and my sisters could see it when coming home. Keep in mind it was a VERY solitary hobby back then, and it was still 4 or 5 years before I even met other modelers, thanks to a college graphic artist. This was one of my last car models before defecing to the aircraft side for a few years. Time has not been very kind to it. the wheels have lost some of the chrome and the paint is not even a shadow of what it was. But I think the enamel has fully dried Ohhhh the memories...... Now for the small part request: (I know there is another forum section for that) Would anybody happen to have a spare driver's side windshield wiper for this? That seems to be the only part missing. Thanks,
-
Here is the second one of the "barn finds" Found this one 2 years ago. It has since then joined my new builds in the display. I just cleaned it and put it in a display case. Famous 3n1 kit. gotta love those. I built this in 1984-85 or so. I clearly remember going to the hardware store next door and getting a can of hi heat engine enamel. For some weird reason I was thinking it could protect it from heat. Go figure. I also remember taping the wheels and the air filters to a cardboard and spraying them gold, at the back corner of the house outside. The red interiors I think were painted with mom's floral paint. I also clearly remember putting an additional chrome timing cover in the firewall as a "pretty touch" Hey I was 14 or so then Ohh the memories...... Thanks,

Hello, This is Revell's Magnum PI Ferrari I built more than 20 years ago. I built it unpainted, then took it apart 1 or 2 years later, paint it with Testor's enamel spray, and put it back together. I clearly remember finishing it and taking it to show to my sisters. When I opened Karen's door, she got scared and yelled, and somehow the model fell from my hand to the floor. Fortunately there was no major damage, and I had it back together quickly. I also remember that since the taillights were glued, they were painted body color and I thought "I need to repaint them". Well, they are still body color. My best estimate is that this was around 1987-1988. I was 17-18 then. Ohhh the memories...... It currently has a few pounds of dust, the back bumper is loose, and the 2 passenger side wheels broken off. But it is complete. I'll restore it and put it next to my just finished 308. I have 2 more survivors, each one with their own story. More on those later. I need to take pics of those. I am not going to rebuild them. Just restore them to their "original" shape. This is 3-D history. Thanks,

Looking good John! Did you get my message about the colors? Thanks, -
Looking GREAT! Can't wait to see it finished! Thanks,

Certainly a winner! Love it! Very nice build. Mine is still in primer. Thanks,
-
You will have port alignment problems between heads and headers... Just kidding. Looking good. Vegas and small blocks go together like... like... well, like Vegas and small blocks. They were meant to be together. Thanks,

Hello, I built this earlier this year. Not exactly a car, but the concept is the same. (Well, it is an american 2 seater high performance dream machine anyways ) It was painted Testors Model Master flat military colors. I airbrushed Tamiya acrylic clear over it to a nice glossy finish. Polished it a bit, applied decals and then airbrushed dullcoat over it. I went very light on the dullcoat since this is supposed to be a demonstrator unit, but you can go a bit heavier if you want. Hope this helps. Disclaimer: I hate decals and they hate me. I avoid them like a pest. That's why I build mostly factory stock. Thanks, Ismael "the decal hater" Gonzalez

All 3 are nice! Car, trailer and Van. But the van really stands out! Love it! Thanks,

Bobby, That is an interesting model. The colors look good on that car. That car was very very popular here back in the day. Unfortunately, many of them ended up underneath trucks or wrapping poles  Here is another suggestion: Instead of painting the raised areas of the foil, try an acrylic paint wash. Acrylic because it is simple to clean up and try again. Basically, you apply the BMF and trim as close as possible. Then you put a small dab of paint (as close to the body color as possible) and then with the brush, you put a drop of water. What you are doing to making the paint very very thin, and it will flow to the recessed area and leave the raised areas chrome. Let it dry overnight and repeat if needed. You can also carefully wipe the raised area with a cotton swab to make the foil shiny. This is simpler that it sounds and the advantage of acrylics is that you can do it a gazillion times if necessary. I hope this helps. Thanks,

I've been following this project since the start. It is like seeing a nephew been born or something It turned out GREAT! I prefer the hood you used over the original design. I absolutely love the tail lights and the whole back end. Now if I may suggest, Can you go back to the Charger III concept project? please? Thanks,
-
Hello, The reason to do it after primer is that if you do it only after paint, you'll most likely end up with a primer colored edge outline. Thanks,

Interesting projects. But I have to ask: Is that an Abarth in the bed of the pickup? Any more info on it? Thanks, Ismael

Glad to see you back at it! My favorite is the C6 but that is no surprise Cobra Colors Daytona Sunset Orange is one of my favorite colors. My first C6 was painted that color. When you work on that Corvette, watch out for the driver's side front wheel. It may not be properly centered in the wheelwell. Thanks, Ismael

Hello, Repeat with me: "Quick Build curbside shelf model" "Quick Build curbside shelf model" "Quick Build curbside shelf model" "Quick Build curbside shelf model" Then why I find myself putting a photoetch key in the ignition with a leather fob? or a Pininfarina photoetch scritp? or adding the inside door locks, or all the switches or the shifter or the levers, or the seatbelts..... etc etc etc? Because I'm CRAZY and I can't help it That been said, I'm happy with this, but not overly happy. I feel like it is missing a soul or something... The piping looks better in person than in the pic. It was black but it didn't work, so I painted it seat color. "Quick Build curbside shelf model" "Quick Build curbside shelf model" "Quick Build curbside shelf model" Thanks,

Looking good James! I have one in the pipeline, but not a convertible. My plan is to do it silver with either red or black interiors. Thanks,

A question for the paint gurus...
ismaelg replied to JayVee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
An appropriate quality respirator is a MUST. You should also consider some kind of safety goggles to protect your eyes and some skin protection like gloves, but even a Subway sandwich bag will help. Thanks, -
Bob, That looks great. Something you don't see often. Scale or 1:1 What paint did you used for the blue? I don't see any reference to it and that's the right color for a racer project I have in mind... Thanks,
