  1. These super small nut/washer bolts are still gettable - - but hideously expensive - almost a dollar per …. Can’t possibly justify them …. Thank you sir / I’ll have another …
  2. You never need the Tuner Model Factory photo-etch stuff - until you do ….
  3. Once again - Evergreen strip and rod and lots of Tamiya liquid glue … this is the basic housing - need some details …
  4. I’ve tried to make Girlings before - was never quite satisfied with the results … but I’m trying again …. This is the Tamiya Seven kit part combining the caliper and the rotor - gonna try to use the rotor casting with a more accurate Girling - sand off the kit brake …
  5. The brakes on the Matra kit are OK but not great - here’s a good auction house shot of the Girlings on the left front wheel of the Halford 16 …
  6. Left and right - now time to make something else …
  7. Anyway - I'd like to see your take on Aston Martin racing green ...
  8. the Astons - DB5 and DB4 that are raced in vintage events have Spec roll cages and modern racing seats and no rear seating - so this would be fun for the next one -
  9. Thoughts - several … thought one - this is really cool - its like CAD College … thought two - have you seen or studied the BRM V16 ? Its properly British - its 70 years old - it had a Rolls Royce supercharger - and it sounded like - well - just wander over to U tube and listen to one … thought three - you’re gonna need some brass supports in the frame somewhere - maybe design cutouts in the frame sections for the brass ?? thought Four - how you gonna park this thing ??? Certainly not in Montreal …
  10. Then: saw away the excess length of the horizontal tube and glue on flanges that form a bracket for the trailing arm - the Sixteen had single trailing arms left and right … OK - now rinse and repeat for the other side …

  12. With the jig i got the correct angle and scribed it on the flanges that sandwiched the tubes - the joint is strong - lots of other parts will break before this does …
  13. i got some nice pix of the interior of the racing DB5 that I took at the old [now gone] Palm Beach Speedway bout five years ago I'll post them if you want the racing DB5s and 6s had stripped out interior shells - alot like a sixties stock car office ...
  14. Bford - the design was unique to the Lotus 12 - 15 - and 16 - the reason you haven’t seen it before is because no one copied it - thats because everyone began putting the engines in the back in ‘59 and ‘60 - so even Chapman discarded the design when he drew up the 18 - as we will see - at some point …
  15. But the parts had the wrong included angle - because i was sort of winging it - so plan B was to cobble together a jig to secure an imaginary rear axle at the correct height / location - the jig was made from a couple of drill bit cases -
  16. First i made an adjustment to the trans case base to better align the run of the half shafts - then i made some shocks from some wh metal parts that i had from an older project …
  17. Chapman designed rear hub carriers for the Sixteen that served to eliminate the need for the DeDion tube that featured on the Vanwall - the idea being that less parts / weight would improve handling …. You can see them on the cutaway and the photo - so the shocks angled out into a base at the top of the carrier … this presents a challenge for the modeler - i know what they look like - but there are no detailed drawings to measure the angle and length of these parts …
  18. The transmission case is assembled from Evergreen stock and strip
