the Astons - DB5 and DB4 that are raced in vintage events have Spec roll cages and modern racing seats and no rear seating - so this would be fun for the next one - -

Thoughts - several … thought one - this is really cool - its like CAD College … thought two - have you seen or studied the BRM V16 ? Its properly British - its 70 years old - it had a Rolls Royce supercharger - and it sounded like - well - just wander over to U tube and listen to one … thought three - you’re gonna need some brass supports in the frame somewhere - maybe design cutouts in the frame sections for the brass ?? thought Four - how you gonna park this thing ??? Certainly not in Montreal … -
Then: saw away the excess length of the horizontal tube and glue on flanges that form a bracket for the trailing arm - the Sixteen had single trailing arms left and right … OK - now rinse and repeat for the other side …

Bford - the design was unique to the Lotus 12 - 15 - and 16 - the reason you haven’t seen it before is because no one copied it - thats because everyone began putting the engines in the back in ‘59 and ‘60 - so even Chapman discarded the design when he drew up the 18 - as we will see - at some point …

But the parts had the wrong included angle - because i was sort of winging it - so plan B was to cobble together a jig to secure an imaginary rear axle at the correct height / location - the jig was made from a couple of drill bit cases -

Chapman designed rear hub carriers for the Sixteen that served to eliminate the need for the DeDion tube that featured on the Vanwall - the idea being that less parts / weight would improve handling …. You can see them on the cutaway and the photo - so the shocks angled out into a base at the top of the carrier … this presents a challenge for the modeler - i know what they look like - but there are no detailed drawings to measure the angle and length of these parts …
